  3. IT'S SNOWING!!! A very light sugar dusting so far :D

  4. Still snowing heavily, but the covering I have is very slushy. Had this happened in a couple of months we would have seen a significant snow event!

Well you never know, the SSTs would have been higher then so the convection would have been lower. But yes, we would have had lots of snow regardless.

  5. Nice dusting on the grass now - pretty decent for October!

  6. First snow shower of the season!

      Thundery wintry showers

Showers have penetrated inland to Sandhutton- just had a moderate shower, though only rain so far.

  7. My parents remember that one, they got stuck in Durham. 50cm apparently fell in Newcastle, which would be exceptional in mid winter never mind March!
  8. Another warm and very humid sunny day in Penrith - the forecasts have been very innacurate re. the weather front which was supposed to affect Cumbria.

its horrible in west cumbria, maxes of 15c, overcast, foggy and rain on and off.

  9. According to the Met Office, yesterday's storm in Newcastle WAS a supercell. This explains the rotation I saw! http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/evening-chronicle-news/2012/06/29/was-the-newcastle-storm-a-dreaded-supercell-72703-31288685/

No idea, they probably said that had supercellular characteristics (rotation, large hail, funnel clouds) or something, then the paper reports it as fact :S

Ah ok, Sorry thought the Met Office had actually said that, Sensationlist Journolism at work - Lolz

Well they may have actually said that, I'm just speculating whether the newspaper was stretching what they said a little.

  10. Wow, half of Newcastle is a mess this morning! Generally we're getting back to normal, but I feel sorry for some of the businesses in the town which are wrecked.

  11. Gone very achy, and my brother has said the same - could that be caused by these thunderstorms?

I felt like this earlier. More notably I started feeling quite numb in my fingers. Very odd. All down to the very electrical atmosphere I think!

  12. Going back to Florida next Summer - I can smell the lightning already :D

Even at Cleadon near the coast it's turning sleety with a temp of 3C- I didn't expect wintry precipitation this soon!

  21. What a difference a day makes - 9°C here this afternoon with fog, though it was sunny for a couple of hours this afternoon as the sea fret briefly retreated.

16c reached in darlington today the cloud cleared around 12pm and didn't return to around 16:30

  22. It sounds lovely! Many people commute for over an hour in large cities anyway through heavy traffic, so I suppose an hour or so along a quiet road wouldn't be very stressful at all.
  23. Does Canmore get much more snow than Calgary in general? My cousin is considering commuting to Calgary from Canmore as she loves the mountains, but will this actually be feasible in winter? She claims there aren't many times where the snow causes travel disruption in Calgary, but obviously that's cold comfort if she can't get out of Canmore! She will probably burn out anyway, it looks a bit too far to commute daily to me, but then I know someone in the UK who commutes 100 miles each way every day from the Lake District and claims that it isn't too stressful and has been doing so for 10 years.
  24. Jeez the mood in my sixth form was pretty morbid today! (January modules results day)
