I got an email from one of my lecturers today with a Christmas present attached - a maths assignment (Vector Analysis) due straight after New Year. What a nightmare! haha

  2. Arrived safely in Malaga on Sunday. Now on day three and I'm already regretting the return flight. The flight here had some turbulence which really scared me, home on Sunday.

We flew through a strong thunderstorm as we landed in Florida a couple of weeks ago, didn't enjoy it at all! Not looking forward to the long flight home overnight on Monday.

  3. Just a normal late March day... :S

Such a shame I have to go back to the North East tomorrow where there isn't any snow :(

  4. Great weekend for snow, but I definitely want some Spring weather soon.

Normally I'm a cold weather person until May, but the snow started in October this year - 5 months ago!

Yes, considering it is March it doesn't get much better than this month for snow lovers!

  5. How awesome to have showers of powdery snow through the night and temperature well below zero! March has put the cold spells of the winter to shame!

    1. Alex95

      Alex95

6-8 inches here in January, but less than an inch today, although I admit January was much less cold with wetter snow.

  6. Now this is a good cold spell - lots of sunshine and lots of snow with proper whiteout conditions in the heavier showers. Finally an easterly that isn't grey dross!

    1. Alex95

      Alex95

Only a couple of cm here, pretty disappointing for an easterly.

  7. Haven't been around these parts for a while...

  8. It's March, it should be warmer now, people wishing for snow should wait 9 months!

March is just as wintry as December on average, so we are well overdue a snowy one. 2008 was the last if I remember correctly, whereas before that it nearly always seemed to snow at some point in March?

  9. 2 and a half months into winter and the lowest temperature is just -4.0°C and there has not been an Ice day either

    1. Alex95

      Alex95

Can't complain of a lack of snow though! There was an ice day here at some point as I remember being disappointed when we didn't get a second, but I can't remember exactly when that was.

  10. I think its rare Thunder, Lightning, torrential rain, hail, sleet, snow and gales can be expected in the same night! I feel the last few weeks have been some of the most interesting weather wise for a considerable time!

Seen it a few times here, always during snow showers from the North Sea. November 2010 was the best, an entire day of thundery snow!

  11. If I had to give this winter marks out of ten so far, then I'm afraid it would be a four. Really poor cool spell IMBY, current temp 2.4c. I recorded more frost and sub zero temps in Autumn.

7/10 - plenty of significant snow and a few North Sea snow events The radar looks good now in fact!

  12. Low pressure coming out of France and heading up the east coast... That's something you don't see every day.

February 2nd 2009 saw a similar snow event, except it rained here and washed the snow away.

  13. The documentary I am watching saying that February 2009 was a once in a generation event of snowfall. Didn't it happen again in December 2010 and is happening again now?

    1. Alex95

      Alex95

October 2008 snow was supposed to be very rare too, but we actually got more this year from an early North Sea event. Just like the buses you wait for ages two come along at once! (Well, more than two, meh)

  14. Incredibly heavy snow in Newcastle this afternoon!

    1. Alex95

      Alex95

Barely a sprinkling out to the west of the city - I'm sitting in traffic on my way to the dry, barren Lake District.

  15. Another non event for many parts of NW England,

    1. Alex95

      Alex95

Yup, leaving for Keswick in an hour from Newcastle so I expect to leave the snow behind.

  16. Snowing fairly heavy here for the past 30 mins. Didn't expect this at all and the pavements that were clear earlier are now covered. This wasn't forecast for this evening was it?!

Snowing in Newcastle now, hoping for a slight top up tonight.

  17. Darren Bett getting in a bit of a muddle - I'd love to sea these snow showers moving into East Anglia from the Irish Sea!

The monster snowstorm delivered a jaw dropping ONE INCH of snow in Newcastle today, and it took over an hour to melt!

Use them to shelter from the incoming blizzard.

I agree with TWS - the GFS is good within 48 hours. I've noticed if you look at the snow risk maps on the chart viewer we usually get snow when the predicted snow level is 200m or below, so it can be a quick way to get an idea of how marginal the snow event will be.

Another great run for the North East though - the snow capital of England :p

  22. Another pathetic December comes to an end and anything cold is still weeks away! When the last cold spell was coming to an end I said that the rest of December was going to be fruitless and people here were criticising me! lol

    1. Alex95

      Alex95

October this year was better for snow than the whole of last year IMBY, hence my positive opinion of this year. Admittedly there hasn't been any significant snow in England away from the NE, but that's usually the case.
