  1. It really is a very tedious and boring spell of weather most of us are having. (2 months of the same old rubbish) I know it will go down in the record books but I just can't get excited about copius rainfall totals. And as Phil said in the moaning thread - It is what it is but how many different ways can we discuss the same stormy Atlantic set up in the Model thread? Can someone please wake me up when some of the charts below start showing up? These are taken from the CFS which as most of us know is about as useful as a concrete trampoline. We can but hope. Cheers.
  2. Fair points from both sides but at the end of the day it is the surface conditions that affect us. We don't live thousands of feet up in the air - trying to dress up the forecast as anything else but wrong is like me saying...but if only my auntie had bolloc## she would be my uncle. If it had been anywhere near correct I would be the first to hand out the congratulations. The facts will show the forecast was wrong. I respect chionomaniac (Ed) and all the time, effort and study he put into it and look forward to his next long range forecast.
  3. Yeah, have to agree. Corkingly mild? I would not think so from looking at the charts below.
  4. Not to be rude or anything but is there any chance you could both take this petty disagreement to private messages instead? Or even do a pdf file? :-D I enjoy reading what both of you say but I don't think my brain can handle a reply from Steve that matches the word count of the post above. It's a weather forum - most of us are here to learn and build up excitement for when our favourite weather type is showing on all the relevant data/charts available. Cheers.
  5. Ah, but I remember a post from March 17th 2013 that I posted...you just never know what could happen.Spring Model Discussion 17/3/13 6PM onwards....Posted by Mr Frost on 17 March 2013 - 19:12The latest Met office forecast for my region...Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:Very cold with further snow showers on Tuesday, prolonged at first with strong easterly winds and drifting snow. Becoming drier with some sun mid-week, winds easing, but severe frosts inland.Issued at: 1600 on Sun 17 Mar 2013It really is amazing to be reading this on March 17 2013! It would be more suited to mid Winter.I look forward to some warm, dry and sunny weather in April...hopefully!
  6. It is becoming a bit tiresome reading posts telling us not to look or wish for more extreme weather or even snow/ cold as this would only exacerbate certain situations in parts of the country. This is a weather forum, telling people not to wish or look for the above is like telling Cristiano Ronaldo not to play football or a cleaner not to actually clean. Like every other person on here I have sympathy and feel for the folk who are directly affected by all that has gone on storm wise over the past couple of months. Would I get excited if I had been in the red warning area today? Would I be excited if 40cms of snow was forecast? Would I get excited if I lived in Oklahoma and an EF5 tornado was bearing down on my town? 100% hell yes to all of the above. What will be will be, there is nothing any of us can do about it. I will continue to hunt for wintry weather up until the end of March...whether it be frost, ice or blizzards. Still plenty of time - the models have been woeful this Winter leading most of us up the garden path. Fair play to the Metoffice, spot on so far.
  7. Sorry for being a vibe assassin/buzz killington here but there is more chance of me bedding Scarlett Johansson than there is of those GFS charts actually verifying. I have lost count over the last few years of how many times I was going to get a good dumping of snow from looking at those only for it to rain. Anywhere above 150 meters in Central Scotland could see some snow for sure. I will stick with the metoffice on this one for the Glasgow area. Strathclyde Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Rain, with snow chiefly on high ground, early Tuesday then becoming brighter with sunshine and wintry showers. Wednesday and Thursday bright with sunny spells and some wintry showers. Issued at: 1600 on Sun 9 Feb 2014
  8. Mushy you keep harping on about unbiased/biased...the MOD thread is the same in Summer minus about 900 people. You had Gavin (Summer Sun) posting high pressure warm charts from March last year for about 8 weeks before one actually verified. You had Shedhead talking down any sort of warmth throughout the Summer (notably the July heatwave) - He talks down cold in Winter so not sure if he enjoys any type of weather! You had Frosty posting about heatwaves everyday for about 2 months before one actually happened. There is no difference - you seem slightly obsessed with people who have a like for snow or cold weather in general. I enjoy reading what you have to say in Summer but posts like the ones you have been making recently don't do you any good. You don't get people on here in Summer going on and on about how much they dislike people for wanting sunny and warm weather. I am not having a go at anyone I have mentioned in this post - each to there own but for the love of god can you please stop going on and on about the same thing over and over again, every single year. :-) Cheers.
  9. It is easy to understand why so many posters vanish during weather like this - it's Winter and most of the people on this forum seek snow, frost and ice days. We get wind and rain most of the year, there is nothing interesting or exciting about it. It is the most common weather we experience in the UK year round. I can understand why people would get excited or interested about snow, thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricane ect ect...But rain on and off all day with wind gusts of 50 mph? My gran would not even bat an eyelid at this nevermind a weather enthusiast. Hopefully the weather treats us to a taste of Winter later in the month or during March. From April onwards I will be seeking some dry weather with a bit of warmth! Hopefully Summer is a scorcher to make up for this dismal Winter we are currently having.
  10. All the models have shown jam tomorrow charts...We all know the ECM will not verify as shown, its just nice to see a bit of naughty cold tonight. The thread is a more enjoyable read with a positive attitude. Reading that it is going to rain everyday or that a pattern is locked in for a month is about as exciting as watching a 1 hour documentary on quicksand followed by going for a bath in just my socks.
  11. To be fair there are a few posts on here this morning explaining why it has all gone wrong. Most of us know why by now.The reason this thread goes very quiet is because 90% of people on this from December to February only seek snow. (which is understandable as it is Winter)Our bog standard weather for most of the year in the UK is wind and rain...it does not excite nor interest me at anytime of the year. This thread will pick up again IF we get any chance of a cold snap/spell during next month or even into March. Until then I will be heading to the Highlands ski resorts for my fix of snow!
  12. The Scandinavian high is a skid mark on the underpants of UK weather forums. Give me a Greenland high over it anytime! No doubt one will arrive in the Summer. Really has been a shocking Winter IMBY so far. I can still get wintry conditions up until the end of March so won't be throwing in the towel yet...
  13. Am I missing something here? As per the the Metoffice outlook they are seeing signals for Winter to MAYBE arrive later in the month. Why would anyone expect to see snow arriving before this? Especially not at 120 hours away. The mind boggles with some folk on here, it really does. The coldies are not expecting anything anytime soon so it is not a rubbish run for the people who can actually think and see for themselves. The usual doom merchants are out in force today so best to let them get on with the glass half empty approach. (One particular member seems to have the same approach in Summer with regards to talking down any sort of warmth on the horizon so I am not surprised to see the same actions from him talking down any sort of cold on the horizon in Winter) 90% of people on here will see some snow and frost at some stage during the Winter - we always do. It will come whether you like or don't like it.
  14. Kev...it is Winter. Of course people are hunting cold. As in April when 99% of people are hunting for warmth.A pattern change will come - as it always does. Most folk are currently giving reasons and evidence to back up those claims of a pattern change arriving mid/ late January. It looks as though something is about to give as per the current thoughts in the strat thread and the Metoffice update. This thread is no different to Summer with regards to people hunting for weather they wish to see. Frosty (Karl) has been getting stick for posting cold charts everyday from a few who prefer mild weather...he does the same in Summer except posts hot charts - yet I don't see the same people giving him stick then? It is all very bizarre really. Hopefully those who prefer Seasonal weather will get there fix of snow and frost - still plenty of time for that. I can think of nothing worse than a Winter of constant wind, rain and above average temperatures. Same as I can think of nothing worse than a Summer of endless rain, cloud and average/below average temperatures. Don't forget...Wintry weather can always bite in March. :-)
  15. 3 years ago today we had this... Let's all pretend it is 2010 again...
  16. Thought I had entered the moaning thread after reading the first few pages of this thread...Feel a bit sorry for folk who have not seen any weather this month. Fantastic December here so far - Severe gales, snow, fog, frost, thunderstorm, temperature of 14 degrees...and more excitement over the next few days - Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:Much colder with gales and snow showers on Thursday. Heavy rain later Friday. Brighter with showers on Saturday frequent in west. Gales, perhaps severe at times.Issued at: 1600 on Tue 17 Dec 2013
  17. Fair to say the latest GFS run is out on its own with regards to a settled Christmas Day. ECM below...
  18. A bit too wet here but down South coldies could make the best out of a bad situation...
  19. A pretty bonkers December so far here - numerous air/ground frosts, couple days of severe gales, three days of falling snow, one day were the temperature was 14 degrees and a thunderstorm last night. Really exciting last 15 days being a lover of all types of weather. Just checked the latest Metoffice update for my location - Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Sunny spells and showers on Tuesday, mainly north and west, then windy with outbreaks of rain on Wednesday. Turning much colder with snow showers and severe gales on Thursday. Issued at: 0400 on Sun 15 Dec 2013 The weather just keeps giving it seems! Looks a bit nasty on Thursday! Definitely one to keep an eye on.
  20. Indeed. Just have a browse through the Metoffice forecast thread that Gavin and Stuart update on a daily basis...they were going for temperatures to be around average or above average through November. How did that month turn out? Below average...Some folk on here never learn! I am looking forward to this Arctic blast, very impressive looking and a great to Winter. (This is the first day of the season - some on here talk as though we are about to enter Spring)
  21. I think some folk are half asleep in here and believe they live in Finland... These charts are fantastic for the UK in Autumn (seems a few on here are forgetting it is November) if it is cold weather you like - rain, sleet, snow, frost, biting wind. I must be half asleep also as I can't seem to get these charts to post in date order!
  22. Let's leave the -10 to -12 uppers for December, January and February. :-D Fantastic output from all models with regards to a wee bonus cold snap before Winter officially begins!
