  1. Can’t agree with some of that. Guess it depends on ones location but I would say it was cold and very interesting. Cold weather and snowfall was fairly widespread/persistent throughout the Winter months - late December, most of January and first half of February. (Obviously Northern parts get the majority of the cold/snow in Winter…just as Southern parts get the majority of the warmth/heat in Summer) Throw in the BFTE that delivered for many (rubbish for some of course) and the coldest February minimum temperature (-23C) since 1955. January was a proper Winter month. (2.1C below average for Scotland) I would take a Winter like that every year.
  2. Really impressive stats there! Quite an incredible month overall. Mean temperature. Air frost. (Highest April level in sixty years) Ground frost. Rainfall amount. Sunshine duration. April's lowest average minimum temperatures since 1922 WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK April 2021 had the lowest average minimum temperatures for April in the UK since 1922, as air frost and clear conditions combined for... Two well below average months for Scotland so far this year! (January and April) Plenty of interesting weather ahead - especially high ground. Home Page MWIS.ORG.UK Planning Outlook A very cold week indeed for early May. Anticipate winter conditions, and on Monday and perhaps again toward or into next weekend, severe upland gales and heavy rain - particularly across England and Wales. Most precipitation will be of snow in Scotland. Particularly cold conditions for early May will follow, with widespread overnight frost, low freezing levels and areas of hail and snow showers, some heavy with thunder. Further strong winds and rain (snow some higher areas) will spread in off the Atlantic toward or into next weekend. Hopefully Summer delivers the goods! Warmth, heat, sunshine and plenty of thunderstorms. All the best!
  3. Evening all! The cold/below average temperatures just goes on and on! Getting a wee bit sick of it now! Next Monday afternoon through to Wednesday could throw up a surprise or two for higher ground. (300/400 meters - maybe slightly lower!) Track/detail will obviously change but this could give snowfall to fairly low levels through Monday evening/overnight into the early hours of Tuesday. (Numerous models show different things but freezing level is roughly four/five hundred meters at times so who knows! @shuggee could be in luck for a wintry mix on current output) ECM for Monday. Tuesday wintry/snow showers over the higher hills/mountains. Wednesday (05/05) looks a wee bit colder so that wintry showers risk coming down to modest levels - all charts below for 12:00. All of this would not look out of place in December! It is only a month until meteorological Summer…give us a break! ECM UKV Latest UKMO for the same day at 14:00 Quite impressive for the time of year. Real struggle to hit double figures IMBY next week. (Monday through to Thursday at the very least) It has been chilly with the odd light shower here recently - plenty of sunshine though and it feels quite pleasant at times. Sunset (through the window) last Friday just before 21:00 Tonight (through the window) just before 21:00 once again. Not much sign of a warm up anytime soon for us - hint of something milder later next weekend but doubts as to how far North this gets! If at all. I would take a repeat of the final week in May last year! (Just screenshots - don’t try and press play. ) All the best!
  4. One for @shuggee More information here: Frostiest April for at least 60 years in UK – Official blog of the Met Office news team BLOG.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Frosty conditions have been common throughout April this year – Image: Shutterstock April 2021 has provisionally been the frostiest in at least 60 years for the UK, topping... And just to add...more air frosts expected before the month is over! Was just reading that forecast @Northernlights mentioned above. Home Page MWIS.ORG.UK Planning Outlook Staying cold into the weekend with higher mountains typically near to freezing point, although there will be some diurnal range of freezing level; frost common into many valleys overnight. Wind often fairly light, particularly into the weekend. Showers with hail, initially toward north & eastern coasts in the mornings will break out more widely inland into the afternoons. Showers locally frequent, but precipitation amounts mostly small, so still very dry underfoot. The air generally very clear, with cloud often above the hills away from showers. Next week may bring more widespread precipitation as lower pressure moves in; likely staying cool, especially in the Highlands. Latest ECM monthly delivers below average temperatures into mid May for Scotland. 26/04 to 02/05: 03/05 to 09/05: 10/05 to 16/05: (NE/SE Scotland trending average at this stage) We will all appreciate a sustained warm/hot spell (one week at the very least!) when it finally arrives! All the best!
  5. Afternoon all We all saw this one coming - few more air frosts to be added before the month is over! More detailed information in the blog: Frostiest April for at least 60 years in UK – Official blog of the Met Office news team BLOG.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Frosty conditions have been common throughout April this year – Image: Shutterstock April 2021 has provisionally been the frostiest in at least 60 years for the UK, topping...
  6. This is why I try and stay away from posting about the later stages of OP runs - back to Winter on tonight’s ECM! 23/04 24/04 25/04: Will that be correct though? Probably not! Met Office outlook does not agree - mentions likely turning warmer! The plot thickens. Bishopton was the warmest place in the UK today...that shows you just how poor the weather/temperatures are elsewhere at the moment! 15.1C Another air frost for @shuggee tonight.
  7. Yes - Heathrow/Kew Gardens definitely benefits from the urban heat island effect compared to the UK overall. Going back to the Manchester rainfall discussion...15th wettest city in the UK. Always thought it would be higher! Cardiff at number one. Information below was taken from Met Office rainfall figures between 1981 - 2015. I can also see why some folk are complaining about sunshine duration over the last six months or so. October: November: December: January: February: March: Not too bad here..average to above average. Excluding November...that was woeful! This month has been above average also. Hopefully a warm/sunny May for us all with some decent thunderstorms thrown in. Last couple months of May have been fairly quiet. May 2019: May 2020: May 2014: The most recent one I can think of that delivered the goods IMBY. All the best to you all.
  8. Fair play to you guys above - only in Scotland with temperatures currently of 12/13C. (14/15C expected through the afternoon for some) Just went for a run in a light (running) jacket and I was still quite chilly - did see a few folk sunbathing on the beach. It has been cold for months of course so all the best to them - well deserved! Enjoying my last few days of working from home! Back in a stuffy office from Monday. Nice to see the weather will be rubbish - perfect timing. I like my mid/late Spring temperatures in the mid to high teens (even higher would be better) so was quite excited when viewing the ECM earlier. 24/04: 25/04: Fingers crossed for the above and then a warm/hot sunny May would be great as well! All the best to you all!
  9. Such a shame for some of the ski resorts - decent Spring conditions once again. Spring 2020, Winter 2020/21 and now Spring 2021 have all delivered the goods - weather wise. Hopefully similar weather for Winter 2021/22 - we can all then enjoy it again! Glencoe currently: Webcams - Glencoe Mountain Resort WWW.GLENCOEMOUNTAIN.CO.UK Click to refresh the page Click a thumbnail to view larger webcam view or scroll down for slideshow. Mountains outlook: Home Page MWIS.ORG.UK Planning Outlook High pressure influences Britain through the next week to 10 days, maintaining quiet and fairly cool conditions, although a gradual rise of temperature is expected. Frost remains common, with a general rise of freezing level on the mountains into the afternoons. Existing lying snow on higher mountains will stay in place, thawing slightly during daytimes. Sun and variable cloud; most mountains often clear. Very little precipitation, apart from very isolated showers of snow or soft hail. Mostly light winds, but there may be some strengthening of wind around next weekend.
  10. Got down to -2C here overnight - quite impressive! We just had our coldest April night since 2013!
  11. Morning all Just goes on and on... Another day ahead with snow/wintry showers breaking out inland through the afternoon. Current radar: Here is what the Met Office forecast for later. 15:00 16:00 I remember when we used to get warm days in April! @shuggee risk of frosts continues right through until next weekend (current output) - must be a new all time record approaching for you. (Total number of recorded air frosts - not sure what period you cover? Just Winter and Spring or all seasons combined?)
  12. This is looking a wee bit more widespread than previously forecast - especially through the Central belt and parts of the SW/S. 19:00 20:00 21:00 22:00 Nothing major or too exciting but the chance/risk to see some falling snowfall for a couple/few hours - maybe a dusting for places like East Kilbride and Shotts. Looking further ahead on the warmth front...GFS with some lovely charts this morning. Would tie in with the Met Office outlook with regards to warmer spells later in the month. 21/04 22/04 23/04 Have a good weekend everyone!
  13. Good shout with tomorrow night mate! 19:00 21:00 22:00 Risk of a couple hours snowfall for you and many others! (light to moderate) Enjoy!
  14. Similar story here! Had about three snow flurries this week. Showers fade away to nothing by the time they reach here - lovely cloudscapes though earlier. Great stuff for parts of the NW/N/NE this week! I am done with the cold now...ready for some warmth/heat/thunderstorms - roll on Summer! We are very slowly moving in the right direction. UKMO 15/04 (11/12C here with sunshine on that chart - that is how low my bar is currently after the recent cold weather) Met Office outlook for later in the month: Not great but could be worse!
  15. Evening all! Great stuff in here! @Halfamilefromnowhere you live in such a great location - fantastic snow pictures as usual! Surprised @Northern Strath has not popped up - usually guaranteed when there is snowfall in the North! Cold start again tomorrow. 06:00 Thursday feeling quite mild (wouldn’t be hard) double digits some parts. (Wet in the West) 12:00 Later that afternoon/evening the cold air returns! Squall line risk as @Kirkcaldy Weather previously mentioned. Snow/wintry showers follow in behind through the evening/night. 15:00: 18:00 Friday 15:00 - snow/wintry showers - basically a poor man’s version of our current cold spell! Still impressive for the time of year. Saturday 12:00 - best chance for low level snow/wintry showers - parameters look a wee bit more conductive. As ever at this timeframe all subject to change! Another cold/wintry weekend ahead on current output - especially Friday/Saturday. UKMO for example! Friday: Saturday: Sunday: Below average temperatures continue for a wee while longer! ECM monthly temperature anomalies. 05/04 to 11/04 12/04 to 18/04 19/04 to 25/04 26/04 to 02/05 If those are on the ball we should see temperatures return to average values during the third week of April. It has been quite a shock to the system after a mild March! All the best to you all!
  16. Evening all Snow/wintry showers breaking out tomorrow - especially through the afternoon! 14:00: 16:00 Looking further ahead to the weekend - below average temperatures with the risk of snow/wintry showers! Subject to change at this timeframe but UKMO/ECM going for a wintry feel at the moment! Friday 15:00 Saturday 15:00 UKMO: Sunday ECM: Sunday Way beyond that...lovely ECM seasonal update! May temperature anomalies - slightly above average for most! Rainfall anomalies - drier than average for most! I am sure we would all welcome a bit of that. All the best to you all.
  17. Morning all! Hope you all had a good Easter! Great to see/read all the snow reports throughout the regional threads this morning! Snow/wintry showers risk again tomorrow - could pop up just about anywhere! Tuesday 12:00 15:00 Keep an eye on the UK all time lowest daily maximum temperature record for April - current figure to beat is -1.1C, 01/04/1917, Durham and Macclesfield. That is under threat! Aviemore, Dalwhinnie and Braemar could all get very close tomorrow! (All places have official Met Office stations) Looking further ahead to the weekend. Friday 15:00 UKMO for Saturday: Chilly outlook at the moment! All the best to you all!
  18. Indeed - models vary on timing but Sunday afternoon at some stage seems the best bet! 15:00 Warning out now as well. Rest of us could still see a covering at times - especially overnight. Spectacular cloudscapes, wintry showers and frosts into midweek! Monday 03:00: Tuesday 03:00: Wednesday 03:00: Then a possible reload next weekend! ECM 09/04 10/04 Today/tomorrow glorious for many of us! (Pleasant and sunny) Have a great Easter weekend everyone!
  19. Real risk of a frequent heavy snow showers pummelling for higher parts of Moray/Aberdeenshire Sunday night through Monday morning - sea level also at times! Monday 00:00 09:00 I think we are all at risk of a passing snow/wintry shower or two...Sunday night through Tuesday at the very least. Oh and check out Easter Sunday in Iceland - insane 850hPa temperatures.
  20. Evening all Lovely Easter Sunday down South! 15:00: You can see what is incoming though on the next charts...squall line has been consistently modelled for days now! That will be lively. Wee mention for NE Scotland as well - they could be absolutely pummelled with snow showers! Heavy and prolonged Sunday night through Monday morning. 00:00 09:00 - NE Scotland/Highlands still going strong. Somewhere like Alford or close by...the place to be! @Ravelin @Sceptical 18:00 - little feature moves through NE/E England in the frames before this...and ends up in the SE. Tuesday 15:00 - more of a coastal snow/wintry showers day but these will push well inland at times - note that little disturbance off the NW coast of Scotland! @Cambrian mentioned this on the previous page. (Think it was showing on the GEM) Could be some fun and games with that as it moves inland for many. All of this subject too many changes at this range - plenty of potential though for wintry hazards! (Met Office buzzword of Winter 2020/21 ) Remember models undercook convection so don’t take these precipitation charts as gospel (new members/guests browsing the thread) - snow/wintry showers could pop up anywhere in the UK and Ireland - especially on Monday! Have a fantastic Easter weekend everyone - lovely variety of weather to keep most enthusiasts happy in all those charts above. Cheers!
  21. Morning all Squall lines, strong to gale force winds, snowfall, sleet, thunder & lightning, hail, torrential downpours and frosts - risk of all that throughout the UK and Ireland for next week. Sunday night through Monday looks absolutely wild for many. Between and after these frames...more of the same! All subject to change at this timeframe but again all the models are going for it this morning. Few UKV snapshots. Monday 03:00 12:00 15:00 If we can get a spell of light winds and snow cover over the Scottish Highlands - temperatures could plummet to minus double digits! Tuesday 03:00 Proper wintry mix early next week! Also interested to see the settling snowfall levels - could be a few low level surprises! Intensity and showers merging together could do the trick! (Especially overnight) Higher ground as ever the place to be! Exciting stuff. All the best!
  22. Quite incredible models/charts for next week if you enjoy a bit of the cold/wintry showers/kitchen sink type weather! April showers anyone!? UKV snapshots - Monday 15:00: Models usually underestimate convective weather so that would be a good starting point above - still a wee while to go before we can be super confident on this happening...but the current signs are very promising! Great stuff on this thread for the last week - warm/cold charts worthy of proper discussion! Cheers.
  23. Evening all! Fair play to @Northernlights - he has been talking/musing about a cold April spell for weeks! Nailed it! Easter Sunday (afternoon/evening) cold/wintry showers arrive. UKMO Easter Monday - absolutely stunning charts! Snowfall to sea level! 06/04 - not too bad either! Most of next week looks cold with further wintry outbreaks. Home Page MWIS.ORG.UK Planning Outlook Fine and fairly warm into the Easter Weekend, but on Sunday bitterly cold air from deep within the Arctic will surge southwards into Scotland, penetrating all mountain areas by dawn on Monday. Higher areas then sub-freezing most of next week, and snow and hail showers widespread. One or two areas of persistent snow will move southeastwards giving substantial falls in places - sometimes lying into the valleys. Met Office outlook: I am ready for warmth/heat...but you can never say no to a cold/frosty spell of weather with the risk of wintry showers/snowfall! All the best to you all!
  24. Hope you have the Winter woolies ready for Monday mate - very cold Spring day in the SW.
  25. Indeed - was hoping the usual London hotspots would break the all time March record. (25.6C) Still great stuff elsewhere of course with sunshine and high temperatures. No other area really has a chance though at the record - can’t see anywhere officially getting above yesterday’s temperature! (24.5C) Unless Kew Gardens, Heathrow, London City ect ect delivers the goods later...not looking great currently. It is all my fault - my aunt lives down in London...told her last night expect 25/26C degrees today. Edit: @Scorcher
