I'll take some icy pics for the NW Scotland forum posse I'm taking my two daughters for a skate on the lake (great photo opportunity) - because I maybe an old man by the time the next big freeze comes along.

Well, they can stick their limp-wristed health and safety fears over the Grand Match - I'm going for an ice skate on Lake of Menteith tomorrow. The last time the lake was this frozen was 30 years ago! Anyone see the great footage on BBC Scotland news this evening? Once-in-a-generation chance to hold the Grand Match and the doo-gooders wring their hands then tell us what they think is good for us. Well, not this Scotsman....

Can't believe the Grand Match has been called off. Are we regressing as a nation? What is so different from 30 years ago when the last one was held? Sign a waiver form, if need be, that you won't sue anyone if you break a leg or fall through the ice before taking part in the event.... humbug!!!

Morning all! Well that was a right damp squib last night. Mushy and rainy here. At least we didn't shut hundreds of schools, stay off work and close one of the world's busiest airports because of a few cms of snow! It seems our winter weather-fearing neighbours are a bit of a laughing stock this morning. Here's hoping there is some kind of return to colder air as the day progresses; seems it might be possible.

Big lumps of the white stuff again. So am I right to guess that the main event is still to come this evening some time?
