Snowshine yep cold and wet one of the worst days of winter 23/24. Roll on spring

Well well, I turned 60 a couple of weeks ago and although I still mountain bike and I feel quite fit still if we don’t get snow soon, I wonder if I’ll be able to be fit enough to get out there and enjoy it.

Heavy rain and 3.5c.

Hopped against hope but no, it always seems to go against us. Can anyone remember the last time when they said it would rain and we had surprise snow?

Yep time to look forward to warmer temperatures and forget winter 23/24. Don’t need my bike the amount of times I’ve been down the garden path. Think I’ve finally learned my lesson

Yeah 100% this is sign posted by events in the Strat, a move into MJO phases supportive of mild Atlantic weather and ensembles rock solid from the 20th. It’s the following week that will be fun to watch as we see a much better Strat profile, an impending +EAMT event and the tropics quickly moving thunder storm activity into the west pacific. Do we go North East the retrogress or straight North West to Greenland. For me it’s North East then retrogression. Time for chase number 3 this year!
A better start profile and movement into phase 7/8 of the MJO will take care of that quicker than you’d expect looking at the models (even though as you say it looks like a beast over Greenland)
Yeah met Office on board with this idea too

Look at that date mate 29th for the change! Surely not 2 in a row! Fits in perfectly with retrogression into the back end of the first week of Feb!
Yeah, I agree, there’s nothing happening till the end of the month earliest(cold persuasion)

A very cold 5/6 days kicks off tomorrow..
Yes the Atlantic looks favourite to move in next weekend and yes I too really hate to see the vortex returning to the NW during January.
Let's enjoy a very welcome respite from Decembers rains and at the end of week see where we are moving forward..
Perhaps things will look differently by next weekend...
Very pragmatic NWS but a kick in the teeth for a lot on here.

Snow fans don't look at GFS 18Z, all gone for Wed/Thur, this looks realistic though, very poor run though if it's snow you're after
Look at all that snow to the east, and even Southeast

Some people in the MOD thread just can’t let it go………. And try and put a spin on it, with that many parts to the puzzle, you can always polish a so unfortunately with so many of us chasing the holy grail. We jump on board but this is a warming planet and the chances are decreasing each year. Just my opinion. Nice and mild tomorrow for the Coventry game. Not bad for early feb.
