    The falling snow is really swirling around in all directions. I really should venture out but 'er indoors thinks i'm a bit over the top when it snows like this

    Actually it is pretty rough out there. The wind speed has really increased in last 30 mins. Driving snow.

    Currently lampost watching here. Driving snow, mixed with blowing snow. Not the heavy stuff yet - will the really heavy stuff reach here just on Northern fringe of Bristol? Winds from a South Easterly direction so i think that indicates an eventual direction of the system to be North West as forecasted, thru SW Wales into Ireland.

    Blowing a hoolie now. Really noisey outside my back garden - faces N/NE. Driving snow of the fine type still. Temps still at -4c so guess flakes wont get bigger for a while yet. Any heavier pulses heading this way, guys?

    Latest forecast shows it stopping just after midnight here but further pulses developing come dawn and thru morning (imby). Exmoor area, plus parts of West Somerset looks like an all-nighter

    Guys - do not be deceived by the powder snow falling versus bigger flakes we normally see when temps are slightly higher. It will build up thru the night. Our 'base of snow' here is already 3 inches, even though no big flakes.

    Kind of. Although hyperbole of "monumental" is prob slightly exaggerated I think we may be approaching a NYE 78 within next few hours (imby).

    Keep getting intense pulses of driving snow here then calms and just swirels around. That wind so reminds me of NYE 78 blizzard (winter 78/79).

    Agreed. Sat in the Beaufort and sunk a couple of Stowfords. Driving snow outside across the Village Green. Within next hour it will turn into a blizzard i reck.

    That radar just posted seems to indicate a pretty big expansion to earlier forecasts to my relatively untrained eye. If it is larger with more energy though, wont it push through too quickly and introduce less cold air quicker tomorrow? Any thoughts?

    It is currently minus 4c so 'dry' snow - when temps rise up to just below freezing flakes will get bigger as more moisture engages (i think)

    It's proper fine powdery snow It hasnt stopped since 1 oclock. It reminds me of the great NYE 1978 blizzard (winter 78/79). Fine stuff with winds for first few hours then boom!!
