I share your frustration tinker bell, the Beeb did show showers moving down the coast after midnight so you never know. Having read the metoffice update earlier we might get lucky as we head towards February. Finger crossed for you guys in the west tonight.

Thanks for the link, I had to laugh when the frame froze just as the forecast was about to begin. It looks like an interesting week coming up. Some of us look like seeing some decent falls of snow....fingers crossed.

I'm watching those showers edging southwards down the east coast. Woukdnbe great to see even a dusting of snow before the milder weather arrive.

Heavy wet snow here now. Current air temperature 1 degree. Not settling yet though.

You may well be correct mate, but worth remembering that the cold spell hasn't even begun yet and past history has shown that cold air at the surface is quite hard to shift even if the upper temperature are on the rise in fi. With the spread shown on the gfs ensembles and the ukmo showing a quite different scenario i feel it is too early to believe the end games shown by the gfs or ecmwf are a done deal yet. The output could flip tomorrow. You never know. Let's just enjoy the cold this week as us collies have been waiting months and months for this.

The gfs 18z run begins at 9.30pm if that helps.

Agreed, it is. That's what makes this time if year so addictive on his forum. I for one look forward to this time of the year and finding these gorgeous looking cold charts the models churn out now and again. Stranger things have happened.

To add to your post there seems to be quite a pressure rise towards the middle of the month so perhaps that's why. We might even get the odd air frost!

There is some support though which is a relief, at least these balmy temperatures should disappear soon.

Could someone explain what the wave 2 activity posted above would mean for our winter weather. I'm a complete novice when it comes to the strat.

Had a few heavy sleety showers recently here, even a bit of snow but nothing settling. Current temperatures around 3 degrees.

One thing that has been missing in recentt years is a very long fetch unstable northerly during the winter months. Really hope to have that set up this winter as it can lead to great radar watching if snow showers are your thing.

Earlier this afternoon we had a really heavy hail shower which gave a temporary covering on grass and roofs.

Still a covering in a few areas around here which Is pleasing to see. Areas literally a few miles nearer the wolds still have around 60% coverage. Hopeful for another coverage tonight.

Still a covering here but only in areas that were shaded. Pleased the dew and air temperatures are falling, currently around 3 degrees with dew temp of 1.5

That's interesting as our temperature is continuing to slowly creep up.

Another light snow shower here, looking at the radar though it will be short lived.

Stopped snowing about half an hour ago. Temperature around 0.7 with dew point around -1.8

Another really heavy snow shower here at the minute with 50p sized flakes.
