It’s certainly been a wild day, especially mid afternoon here when a bit of a brighter clearance was quickly followed by one of the longest squalls I can remember giving us almost an hour of torrential rain, blown horizontally by howling winds. Thankfully the car had a lucky escape this morning when 2 of our wheely bins were blown across the drive missing it by inches. all in all a fully justified weather warning.

The problem with the TV forecasters favourite word “mild” is that it hardly ever feels it and today is no exception. rain blown horizontally by a strong wind and a technically mild 7c feels damn cold. give me -2c and a crisp sunny feel over this crap any day and if it must be mild then at least give us a buy one get one free offer with plenty of sunshine thrown in like last Saturday. probably what we’ve come to expect over recent years I suppose but today has been grim even by the low bar we have had set.

Half a day already booked off work has worked out lovely with the birth of my first grandchild so we’re off over the border shortly to go and see him along with his proud mum and dad. Easily the best early Christmas present we could have so just need to open the curtains to a foot of snow on the 25th and I’m not bothered if there’s nothing else to open afterwards.

Just looked at the model charts and after carrying out a detailed analysis of what is being shown; here is my forecast for the Christmas period. could be wet, could be dry. could be windy, could be calm. could be cloudy, could be sunny. could be mild could be cold. could be rain, could be snow. oh and it will probably go dark just before teatime and come light again around breakfast time. apart from that it’s all up for grabs.

It’s a shame that we can’t move Christmas about to suit when the snow is due but given the way that the models usually chop and change, they would be rushing round booking Christmas Day the evening before and no doubt it would be planned in to coincide with a chance of a snow shower in London with mild and driving rain up here meanwhile the sun is out again and it’s the second day of spring like conditions so wether it’s seasonal or not, it’s certainly usable weather.

At least the charts show the chance of something wintry across the region and TBH, the slightest covering will be an improvement on what we usually end up with. just watched the BBC forecast and it hardly edges you towards dusting the sledge down but equally it dangles the carrot that the cold air may be far enough south to put us in the game.

Stubborn with the way he wants to set up but playing out from the back is no good when we’re forever doing no more than passing between keeper and defender. we’ve got some of the fastest players we’ve ever had and an ability to get in behind and frighten defenders to death but most of the time we move at the speed of continental drift and offer no threat at all. As for Kompany, not sure although I did turn to the missus at one stage and say do you think the two managers could swap technical areas without anyone knowing as at least with Dyche you knew what you were getting, pleasant on the eye or not. anyway good luck for the rest of the season and I agree that 10 points deduction was way OTT.

He’s been pretty good the last couple of games, apparently outstanding in the one sided draw we scraped at Brighton and a lot of the goals scored against us wouldn’t have been stopped by two keepers. His confidence is improving but TBH it’s Kompany’s insistence that we play out from the back like City but without City’s quality that causes most of the squeaky bum moments. oh and not to mention the 19 million we paid for him with no proven experience A few years ago you’d never hear Burnley and 19 million mentioned in the same sentence

And we’re off to the Turf at tea time to see what is hopefully a disappointing first visit back for Sean Dyche that said it all depends on the imminent arrival of our first grandchild and even though he’s a few days late, he doesn’t seem in any hurry to make an appearance but listening to my daughter earlier, maybe not long to wait now
