  1. Eased of now here but almost 27mm since it started with the heavier stuff for now at least on the Yorkshire side of the Pennines.
  2. 20mm in the last 6 hours at our local rain gauge and flood warnings are already out for the Upper Irwell and Upper Calder catchments. certainly horrible though and I can tell the direction of the wind by the need for a bucket where it drips from under the eaves.
  3. After the mild conditions of the last few days it felt a lot more seasonal sat on the football tonight and down to 4c driving over the tops coming back home. probably would have been even lower if that cloud hadn’t rolled in during the afternoon. anyway back to normal tomorrow with strong winds and heavy, driving rain.
  4. Agreed, I think that being a mild ramper and snow hater is the main qualification for becoming a weather presenter. they certainly seem obsessed with making Christmas be as un-Christmassy as possible
  5. Looking at todays weather, and the news; never have the words of Greg Lake’s masterpiece seemed more accurate. “they said there’d be snow at Christmas, they said there’d be peace on Earth. but instead it just kept on raining……………………..” Merry Christmas everyone, hope you got everything you wanted. have a good day.
  6. Thanks, we’ve just come back over the border from daughters. lovely to hold the little fella, especially when his eyes are open and looking back at you.
  7. 27th looking like a washout across the region although probably the only difference between this one and most days over the last few weeks is that at least it comes with a weather warning. Plenty of cold rain for 99% of the population with the chance of something slightly wintry for those who live as high as UK habitation gets but given the Day After Tomorrow charts showing just a week or so back, a poor effort.
  8. Wind not quite at howling level at the moment but I can hear it all the same and if anything it’s expected to get stronger as the day goes on. It seems like a long time since we have had as long a period of sustained windy weather without a calm gap in between and the less said about the rain over the last week or so, the better. the mild, I’ll make the most of as at least it’s comfortable in the house this morning without the heating having been on yesterday so even the crappest of weather has its benefits. last bits of present wrapping to do this morning then off over the border this afternoon to see daughter, partner gorgeous new baby boy and not forgetting the dog before a wind down ready for tomorrows extended family meal. I’m sure I’ll be lurking on here over the next few days but in the meantime can I wish all NW members and their families a merry Christmas.
  9. Some bright colours showing on the radar and there not far from here now. guess I’ll soon know how heavy the reds and oranges are. edit……..it’s arrived and it’s heavy.
  10. I wouldn’t put my house on it but I don’t think that todays rain would have stuck around these parts like a bad smell if it had been snow. probably been a bright and sunny afternoon.
  11. After a damp morning wandering round in the rain for the last few prezzies, we’re spending what is now an even wetter afternoon wrapping them. food shop at tea time when hopefully the crowds have died down a bit then that’s it for us with Christmas Eve left for those who choose to shop even later than we do.
  12. Looks like the Main Street in Hawes to me but could be wrong. always love looking at the black and white pictures of snow, mainly because the colour equivalent is about an inch of the stuff and plenty of slush. massively ironic that in the days where everyone has the means of taking high quality photographs sat in their pocket, when it comes to snow scenes, there’s just no opportunity.
  13. The Pennines getting plastered while I’m away on low ground for New Year. no surprise at all if that comes off.
  14. Aye up looking forward a 9am on 27th here where my single flake holding hands with a rain symbol will decide what we actually get. Full snow, sleet or boring cold rain, I can’t wait then it’s all eyes on the 30th where rain drop graphic has sodded off for a couple of hours leaving snow flake sat there alone. no doubt he will be back near the time though to fully evict snow flake and bring more of his rain mates in for a new year party.
  15. Some big totals around, just hope that there isn’t another Boxing Day 2015 type event lurking in there. Overall patterns may be different but the mild westerly flow is in place and the ground is already saturated.
  16. The lengthy dry, sunny and pretty warm spell from mid May until the last week of June is the only one I can think of.
  17. Hope so although I’m on low ground for New Year so I hope it falls before NYE and is till there into 2024.
  18. Aye we’re under that somewhere although it sounds like it’s eased off a bit now.
  19. Another day but still windy and still wet and with rain graphics showing for my location throughout daylight hours, it’s looking like a poor day to be out and about. A thoroughly depressing, although not surprising set up
  20. It’s certainly been a wild day, especially mid afternoon here when a bit of a brighter clearance was quickly followed by one of the longest squalls I can remember giving us almost an hour of torrential rain, blown horizontally by howling winds. Thankfully the car had a lucky escape this morning when 2 of our wheely bins were blown across the drive missing it by inches. all in all a fully justified weather warning.
  21. A constant howl of the wind through the trees at the moment mixed with what sounds like the noise of the conservatory roof about to take off and wheely bins that already have. certainly is a wild start to the day.
  22. I’ll give them a miss if you don’t mind and file with garden peas as stuff to avoid
  23. Aye as already said, it’s pretty wild outside and certainly justifying the yellow warning. I wouldn’t like to be driving anything high sided along the exposed north/south or trans Pennine roads at the moment. for anyone who is, stay safe.
