Met app shows it bone dry although mainly cloudy here as far it goes out on Monday so a good opportunity for everything to dry out but yet another waste of a cold spell.
From an IMBY perspective, and given the northerly air source, I’m not overly confident that we’ll see anything much in the way of snow next week either with the usual wishbone effect limited things to coastal and exposed areas.
I’m happy to be wrong of course but unless we get embedded troughs, the east Lancashire drought may last some time.

Where could possibly be better than here in the northwest, in brilliant sunshine and drier than a camels backside watching the rest of the country getting buried with London’s 2cm getting wall to wall coverage
anyway, at least I had my falling flurries going to work this morning but that’s as good as it got.

We’ve been a bit further north than most of the showers today but there’s a few light ones managing to make it over the Pennines now and heading towards here so it’ll be interesting whether it’s rain or snow or even if any actually get here without fizzling out completely.

meanwhile over at daughters in Sowerby Bridge it’s been raining but I’ll take dry over rain any day.

Occasional tiny flurries of snow from a rogue cloud while I was out walking but that is as good as it got with most what is on offer a few miles to my south.
slippy underfoot but the positive is that the muddy lanes have frozen up a bit so it’s cleaner if nothing else.

Another lovely frosty morning with the sun just about to show itself above the high ground to our east so it’s time for a quick brew before a swift couple of hours walk.
just watched the BBC forecast and it shows the chance of wintry showers and settling snow across higher parts of the south east on Monday.
good luck to them but I hope that the Mad Thread have got the emergency chairs and outside catering sorted as it’s going to be awfully busy playing hunt the flake in there
here the Met are saying chance of a few flurries over high ground from the east so
i am high enough and east enough.
I think it will certainly be cold enough.

Early warning out for low flying toys in the Mad thread this morning as they wake up to what seems to be the start of a downgrade to the cold spell.
I just don’t know why folks get so convinced that a single cherry picked chart will end up with heavy drifting snow down their street but some just don’t learn.
At least a few dry days are on the cards which will bring welcome relief to those affected by flooding but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess and the weather will do whatever it wants, irrespective of our wishes.

Looking at the Meto app for here, there’s nowt to get excited about for the start of this cold spell at least.
weekend through to Tuesday is dry and cloudy with temperatures in low single digits and just below freezing at night.
hopefully something more dramatic lies beyond that but bland in the short term although a break from the rain should help things to dry out a bit.

Got a lovely room with a view and 2 squirrels for company. Wot no rain? It's dry outside, overcast with odd pocket of blue sky. Should be feeling colder when I'm fit to go home.

Karamboa is the one we went in last January and the only criticism I have was us only going for a week.
It’s a massive hotel but spread out and right on a lovely beach and with probably the shortest airport transfer I’ve ever had.
You literally drive out of the airport gates and straight onto the hotel access road.
sure you’ll enjoy the place and get your exercise in at the same time.

We went to Sal in September, as you say barren and at that time of year hot, but really enjoyed it.
less to do in Boa Vista but this is a lovely time of year to go to CV.

A better day than yesterday, not that it would take much beating but mostly dry until mid afternoon when showers moved in and a couple of heavy ones came through after dark.
tomorrow not looking great before something drier and brighter appears in time for the weekend.
As for the upcoming wintry spell, likely to be colder but I’ll sit splinter free on the fence until I see snow falling outside my window.

A few of these starting to appear around these parts where culverts are either collapsed, blocked or are no longer of sufficient size to take the increase in water flow caused by new building work.
Whatever the reason though, the end result is always the same with roads and pavements being lifted by the sheer pressure of water and surfaces becoming potentially dangerous due to the washed out voids lurking underneath.
Obviously it’s not helped by the amount of rain over the last few months but all we need now is a highways department which understands that the problem can’t be sorted by just filling in the pot hole made when the water stops coming out.

Nothing more than nuisance value here really with the heavier stuff to my south and up to now tying in nicely with the warning area.
A lot yesterday and overnight though with plenty of debris laid in the usual parts where run off becomes a problem.

Yeah they tell us to drive to suit the conditions but there were parts of the East Lancs, M60 and M66 where the safest option was to park up and walk.

After a nice sunny morning and early afternoon out on the Merseyside lowlands; what an awful evening it’s turned into.
Just got home after 50 minutes of dodging the surface water flooding on motorways and duel carriageways that the experts think don’t need to be lit.
Personally I can’t believe the sense in the perfect shoite storm of not switching on lights on pothole filled roads with under maintained drainage but there again I’m just a driver, not an expert.

Looking at the radar, a bit of a clearance has reached here but looking outside, someone locally didn’t get the memo.
back to the radar again and it doesn’t look like the dry period will last long though with the next area of bright echoes heading in across the Irish Sea ready to give us another wet few hours.
Thankfully tomorrow is looking to be a better day, unless of course you live in the north west of England which once again looks likely to be in a pretty much constant shower stream for much of the day.
anyway last bit of packing then we’re heading off from east Lancs down the east Lancs, probably in the rain.

Whenever it gets cold enough for anything that falls to be snow then, as if by magic; the rain will stop, the clouds will part and the sun will come out
and then after a few coolish days with a bit of frost, the mild will win out without a snowy breakdown and the rain will be back again.

The rain has just started here, maybe a bit of sleet mixed in but not enough confidence for me to open the door and find out.
Off to friends in the lowlands for New Year but thankfully I don’t think I’ll be missing out on any white out conditions up here.
