  1. 5C, lashing it down. Makes a nice change. This country is starting to get on my nerves.
  2. The ground temperature must be below 0C for freezing rain to occur. We just have rain, everywhere.
  3. Yeah, the cold air is starting to dig down now. Don't think it'll get much further south than it is now though. If it's still raining at 1pm, then I'[m afraid that's all you're likely to get.
  4. Makes you laugh doesn't it. The fact that if the CET was to stay the way it was, it would come out on paper, just 0.7C colder than May 2015 and 1.1C warmer than April 2015.
  5. Nick. There's a difference between wishing my life away, and looking forward to something. That's like saying 'I go on holiday next week. But I hope it goes painfully slow, because I'm only gonna live until I'm 85' I'm sure if you shared the same opinion as me, you wouldn't be posting remarks..
  6. I assure you my friend, absolute twilight blue at 17:10 last night! I live on the western coast (pretty much) remember, so I get the pleasure of enjoying every last second of that sun until it dips below the horizon.
  7. Today, it was clear for the first time in I don't know how long at sunset, and the blue sky was present until around 17:10, probably a little later too, I went inside haha! But I am the absolute biggest fan of long days and short nights. And it's from this point onward that the long road to summer begins, meaning it's uphill from now. The weather can't exactly get any milder now, can it? So not only are the days gonna start getting longer again, but it's also more likely than not gonna get colder at some point in the near future too. We have a stall in sunsets now until the 19th December, that's when we start gaining light in the evening. But yep, the earliest sunset has gone. We now gain seconds in the evening, but we're still losing light in the mornings. This actually happens until next year, not like it affects me anyway, I'm rarely up that early, haha! But anyway, roll on summer!
  8. 15.2C, virtually no wind. Crystal clear blue sky. I'm wearing my shorts for university. It's December 7th! Fantastic!
  9. Certainly for me, Frosty. What has been lacking in the charts in recent times. Much of the year in fact, is a sustained anti-cyclonic spell. And certainly whilst those charts don't spell out prolonged spell, it'll certainly bring with it some more seasonal weather, with copious amounts of sunshine for some, and some frosty mornings! As seen below. It'll certainly feel better, at least with daytime maxima knocked back down to around average. So oberall. Not fantastic. Not particularly wintry. But an improvement and a suggestion from the models to produce something more 'Decembery'. Probably won't come into fruition. But the trend is there.
  10. Damian- I'd be exceptionally thankful for a high pressure dominated spell. Lovely sunny days and frosty nights proceeded by foggy mornings. We didn't even manage a sustained high pressure period in summer. Surely one is well overdue?
  11. What's crazy is, it's absolutely bone dry outside. Grass is dry, paths. It's warm. I love it!
  12. Hey! Welcome to the forum! In basic terms, our part of the world is in a relatively sheltered location. The Welsh mountains create a rain shadow effect with precipitation coming from the west. They'll also take the brunt off some of the strongest winds. Similarly from the east, with The Pennines playing a large role in blocking precipitation from arriving from the east. This isn't always the case though, it depends entirely on the strength of the flow (wind) or how much energy/instability a band/front has. Cumbrias 'heavy echo' of precipitation is sat over an elevated area. You'll see this on the radar. The heavier rains will always be deposited on higher ground. The reason for this is topography, where the cloud must rise to pass over the hill/mountain. To pass over, it must first become lighter. To do this, it'll deposit much of its load before it does so. This is also the explanation behind the rain shadow effect. Hope this helps! BT
  13. Cumbria is renowned for being one of the wettest places in the UK. Whilst the flooding is shocking, it's to be expected during the autumn/winter months What's devastating is the lack of sunshine these past six weeks!
  14. Thank god. Crystal blue skies to start the day and a lovely sunrise to go with it. Forecast to stay this way until nightfall. So thankful for a calm, sunny day today. Beats getting soaked that's for sure. It's mild too
  15. I can honestly say, I don't remember the last time I saw the sun. It's been THAT long. It's so, SO depressing.
  16. Might as well just get a crate in and have a few mates round!
  17. Yup. Forecasts were not much good today. I feel the cloud over western areas was far more extensive & stubborn than predicted. Completely gloomy today. Few spots of rain, whilst the eastern side of The Pennines enjoyed the late autumn sunshine. Nothing remotely cold on the charts either other than the odd PM incursion every now & then. Just a feeling, no scientific evidence behind it, but I think another very mild winter is to come. But in just under four weeks, the nights start getting shorter again, and the long road to the summer Equinox begins. Oh 11pm daylight, how I miss you. I don't think it would be so bad, but it's just the fact that sunshine has been a rarity for some time now. But I think we all knew it was coming after such a settled two thirds of Autumn. We're paying the price!
  18. Literally non-stop rain here for three days. It's ridiculous. When it comes to snow it's four flakes and then a week of frost & sun. When it's rain, oh no problem. Take a month of it.
  19. Had a light snow shower around 8pm. Couldn't tell you what happened after that. I went the pub, haha.
