Snow falling here in Thornaby too just a bit wet .. but lovely and festive.
hopefully as evening draws in and temperature drops slightly it may start to lay.
Still hoping the showers can keep going overnight so I get my Newcastle White Xmas Bet up

Agreed - if it’s work I’d set off early. If it’s a holiday I’d be booking into an airport hotel. They hardly ever close a runway , traffic is another matter
Thank you for all your advise everyone it is for a holiday ; I’m now going to leave at 2am and pray and I’ve took on board all the route advice! Good luck needed for me I think ??

Hi all I’m driving to Newcastle airport at 2;30am in the morning from Thornaby for my 7am flight ; I know there is plenty of snow about but reckon this be plenty enough time? And any tips on routes to use to get there with the weather as it is?
many thanks for any replies in advance

Hey all ,
As mentioned the other day I travel on Wednesday morning at about 3am from Thornaby to Newcastle airport then fly at 7am to Alicante.
whats the latest on the forecast front should I be okay? I know it’s showers forecast I’m just wondering what anybody who’s more knowledgeable update and advice is now we’re getting closer to the date? I’m thinking of setting off at 2:30 am instead to the airport to be extra safe?

Back in 79' the airport was closed in February and I think also March, I live I mile from the airport and the only possible saving grace is that i n those days there was no airport by pass so that could be a saving grace if the snow gets bad enough. Enjoy your holiday.
Thank you and hopefully it is my saving grace ! ? at the moment looking at the charts for next week I’m fearing the worst. Im just hoping next Wednesday early morning is a quieter period for snow and is dry so I can get away! ?

I’m the biggest cold and snow fan you will see but at the moment I’m absolutely dreading these charts and next weeks weather . The reason being I’m going on holiday to Benidorm next Wednesday and flying out of Newcastle airport ? Does anyone have any idea how Newcastle airport is with snow? Can it handle it? Should I be okay ? I fly first thing 7am on the morning , I know it’s too far to be exact but any ideas be much appreciated.
I’m guessing at the moment the ECM will b my best hope as that delays it and I may just get away in time?

been enjoying your posts and I concur with many of your thoughts. Definitely an upgrade of potential and in such neartime.
Merry Christmas to you and ALL members and visitors.
Will try and look in but a quick off topic message....my mother has had infection and was going ‘loopy’ but after 2 admissions to hosp in last 5 weeks now home and much more herself. My dad who has dialysis 3x per week is now in hosp for xmas, nearly lost him last Monday due to severe reaction to meds.....now getting ok. Travelled to Swansea on Wed and got a day pass on 22nd to bring him home for 80th celebration. Great day with my brothers and dad.
Message is.....be happy, enjoy the weather and models....as long as all are ok come rain, sun, mild, warm or cold.....its all good.
Warmest Xmas wishes to you ALL....snow is coming
