  1. I am wondering if someone can shed some light on this 'nature'  scenario I have noticed?  ~ Normally I have about a dozen swifts flying and making their usual lovely summer noises around my back garden.  This year they were late '8th May' and there was 2 of them, then 5 and now this week back to 2.  What has happened.  I know it is food based but surely with this drastic decline it has to be more than that?  Any ideas please?

  2. Been lurking in the Mod Disc thread of late, and it came to my attention that every point in the UK was mentioned for possible snow apart from the South West, it was as if we did not exist.  BUT now it's 'South West will get a pasting if the Atlantic is undercut.'  Now the South West gets a look in.  As we are in prime position for these Atlantic driven South Westerlies and they have not let up at all for months, sometimes one after the other, I have a feeling that the South West will leave all the others parts with literally egg on their faces.  We are in prime position for a swift fallout, that's my belief reading between the lines on the Mod Disc thread.  What do you guys think  ?? :D

Thank you for your reply - it is people like you that pick up on these "one off charts" and they turn into something nasty, but they give people the heads up in the mean time to what needs to be watched.  You never know with our weather now.  Like you said the potential is there and should be watched.  Cheers

Another end of the world storm from GFS this morning - this is a MEAN wind speed chart, so hurricane force winds reaching N Devon

Details are changing run by run but potential is there for a serious storm on all op runs this morning. It's looking like February 2014 all over again but with the pattern 200/300 miles further south, so more snow 'opportunities' too especially further north, and as the northerly side of the trough feeds round from the NW.

Can anyone shed anymore light on this potentially nasty storm.  There is obviously the chance it will miss the SW and pop off to France, but it does look very nasty and could be the next named storm.

  5. Thank you! You stay safe too. That's the one thing that annoys me, people always think I'm over exaggerating. At least we all understand the risksAlso.. I checked my phone app AccuWeather and it's saying that gusts are already 65mph. As the storm will intensify can any of you tell me if it could get much worse than this? I know were preparing for up to 80 but would 100 be likely at all? We are tucked away behind wales slightly so I know that takes away some of the intensity. Just curious!

I know what you mean.  We will prove them wrong one day wont we.  I can say that it is going to get worse tonight, but no 100 mph winds will happen.  I am just watching my weather station and the pressure is staying steady at 980.4, the wind had dropped in the last hour too.  I do know where you are, but I am sure it is still very blowy as you are on the coast anyway.

  6. No one in mine takes it seriously enough.Just all the "we'll be fine" speeches.I'm trying to tell them this is only the start and it'll be way worse but I suppose they'll just have to witness it.We have a house next to us for a quick escape but other than that no option but to stay! Great

Hi there  I have the same problem with my kids and hubby, they never take anything I say seriously, all be it bad rain, snow, wind they never listen.  One day they will say you were right.  Trouble is unless your specific area does get hit bad they will not listen until that day, all said I find nothing ever gets that bad for Bristol.  Probably why the family always poo poo what I say.  You stay safe, will be thinking of you.  PS: others who come on here get slated by their families for over exaggerating too. LOL

  7. It is to be windy along the current main rain band as well, as I'm sure folk are aware. Then comes a very brief lull of sorts and gradually through tomorrow daytime the windy action picks up again as illustrated above.

Can you shed some light on something please! why are people saying this storm on Sat/Sun is going to be one of the worst i.e 87, but on beeb news nothing more worse than the low coming in tonight.  Is it totally over hyped?

  8. This is one of the most scary storms with even more powerful windstorm in hurricane force but hopefully to be downgrades

How come Fergie has not mentioned that this storm is supposed to be this powerful.  He just basically made it no more worse than tonights.  Any pointers as the papers and some radio stations were on about it was supposed to be one of the worse ones.
