Well a few days ago it was forecast to be 6C today  its currently 1.8C with aforecast high of 4C. I do think the models are not handling this well and there will be some surprises as the week goes on.

This whole week has been chilly, just checked the output for the last week on our weather station - High of 4.2c, low of - 2.3, an average of 1.5c. Hardly mild!

I still think the next week could throw up a surprise or 2..

Love you're area. Was down the beautiful Elan valley for a week in September when we had the very warm weather early September.  Love Rhayader ,stayed at the horseshoe guesthouse.  Lovely place. Do you live in Rhayader?

I do indeed, next to the River Wye. We are very fortunate indeed to live where we do. It is a lovely town with some spectacular countryside on our doorstep.

Just been up the Elan, it was very special today.

Can't compete with that - merely -2.7 C atm but still cold enough for to bring out my fleece lined base layer (as it's now called) which keeps me quite cosy outside. I had my big electric blanket switch on last night, albeit without much fanfare or red ribbons to cut! 🤣 MetO spot forecast is promising a 50/50 chance of seeing some snow or sleet in the morning - now that would be worth some fanfare if it came off!📣❄️

Dropped to - 9.3 here last night, relatively 'mild' - 7 currently, reports of snow in Aberystwyth. Can not see this depth of cold being cleared without some of the white stuff.

Fancy, I found the little tyke today in broad day light in the shed, still tanking up on cat food. Realizing that it may not have yet found a suitable place to hibernate in, I quickly improvised by finding a reasonably sized cardboard box, placed it on it's side on a plank and filled it with torn up stuffing paper from a recent Amazon delivery and even found an old rug to drape over it for insulation. I then lifted the little fellow just inside the box and went my way hoping for the best. Returning a little later i was overjoyed to hear scratching noises from deep inside the box with some of the paper pushed out a little, so hopefully there is some nest making going on in there. Phhhh!!! i have had hedgehops on and off for years but never before had to intervene in their affairs like that to make sure they are safe!

Bless you, sounds like Mr Hog has well and truly landed on his feet finding your shed - dinner and bed! Hope he decides to spend the winter with you! With you feeding the cats regularly, if he does wake he will have food available too, so stands a very good chance if making it to spring.

Already - 7 here, seriously cold, hibernating seems a good idea!

Your post has one major flaw in it, a very big one actually. A lot of it i agree with, to drive a EV is great, response, reliability, etc, EV's the future, yes but as a overall solution. The huge flaw is as it stands charging. You have off street charging at home? Yes you have. The majority in this country do not, fact.  That is not going to change. Charging a battery via a cable is NOT the future. Can you imagine the size on the cable required to feed a normal suburban  semi detached house street of say 200 homes? Each coming home at night to charge? No that will never never happen. EV's as they are have their place but the future is certainly not one as it is now with charge cables at home for the lucky ones who can. As you say your journeys are never more than 75 mile radius from your home without charging. Would i want to pay 25k plus for a car that could only do that? No. They are still a niche product suited to a few.

Super fast charging is already available in many countries abroad where charging your car takes 10 to 15 minutes at an EV charging station, not that different to a fuel station. As usual the UK is a slow adopter and makes these things very expensive where they do exist.

I also agree I'm lucky I have a drive. On street charging technology is often not available, but destination charging is often an option with many workplaces now offering ev charging.

Unfortunately, the cost of charging on the network has risen significantly due to rising energy costs in the last couple of years. Competition needs to drive this down fast and the government could also take action by reducing tax on ev charging, just as they have frozen fuel duty for many years. The charging network also needs to be simplified, but many are now contactless.

EV manufacturers also need to focus on making their cars more efficient, the obsession with electrifying SUVs means these wedge shaped cars are horribly inefficient.

It isn't perfect, but the technology exists to solve many of these issues and it is happening. Obstacles are often sadly political.

Tbh, you're about the only one I know who sings EVs praises.  Fair play it suits you that's fine, but there are a lot of disgruntled people who own an EV.

That genuinely surprises me - what are their grumbles? I must admit I was nervous before getting one, I did a lot of research, but it has been a very good and financially advantageous decision. The car itself has blown me away.

Would I buy one? Probably no, the technology is still developing very quickly, they are too expensive to buy and the EVs coming out now are even better still - but for the many of us these days who lease they make a huge amount of sense.

It probably helps that I don't do very long journeys and can rely on a home charger - but if it can work for me in rural Wales I can imagine it would work in most places.

Not being an ev owner  do you carry a generator in the boot just in case ?

    No, why would I??

It tells me how far I have got to go just as a petrol car would?  If you are running low you top up!

In all seriousness, temperature and speed do affect range more than petrol and longer journeys take a bit of planning - but nothing insurmountable as public chargers have increased massively in the last couple of years.
