  1. I think it's the fact that it's not "normal" that attracts the interest. This is a site for weather enthusiasts. Thus this site comes alive for unusual weather. So yep, the majority on here will be cheering excitedly on for a very potent arctic blast. Because they don't come around that often. For those of you who live for models showing fine calm conditions, that's great, but come on here to discuss that in June and you will be in a small circle of like minded people. I don't personally mind what weather people like of course. But to keep on expressing frustration at others in post after post which veer on agression ("what is wrong with people" etc) on this site is verging on the peculiar. Lots of people on here love snow. At any time of year. Get over it. And if you can't, once you've expressed your bemusement, move on rather than keep on banging on about how weird you think we are.
  2. You seem to be getting a bit obsessed :-). Yup most people on this site are much more interested in the cold stuff. I like a nice sunny day but it holds no interest for me meteorologically speaking. I certainly wouldn't be looking at models etc showing a few days of nice weather. What is there to see? On the other hand, a proper Arctic plunge at this time of year - now that's exciting! Bring it on! I think i probably speak for most people on this site regarding this disposition (I thought you would have worked that out by now if you had spent any time on here ). But of course, it takes all sorts. However, your overly emotive talk of "sickening charts" and "what is wrong with some people" etc suggest to me that you need to take a little lie down. Or watch 'Homes in the sun'. Or emigrate to the Costa Del Sol.
  3. I'd say the opposite really. I think this country is one of the least extreme in the world meterologically speaking. Usually operates within a very narrow range of temepratures really. Certainly the least extreme in Europe i would argue.
  4. First shower of the day (i don't think this has been the East/West thing that it was thought it would be) just now and, possibly, the heaviest of the period. Magic to see the skies darken, and proper dry snow come belting out of the sky, instantly settling on the cold ground. Hard frost all day really, very little melt. And tonight will be the hardest frost probably of the winter which i'm excited about. A real winters day in the best week of the season in the Belper area (we had more snow the other week, which was great, but it was pretty marginal aside from one day apart from on high ground). A whole week of what i would consider to be seasonal conditions in February has been very rare in recent years (even decades). Love it.
  5. You did great last night. More then than Belper has had the whole period i think. It's luck of the draw. Personally i'm more than happy to have the sun shining, cold temepratures, ice and snow. But more, of course, would always be welcome!
  6. Another wonderful winter's day in Belper. Icy start, cold east wind, white hills surrouding. Sun shining. Would be nice to get a shower as they have dodged us today but proper winter weather neverthless. And more of the same tomorrow with the coldest night of the year in prospect. I'll be up early for a proper winter walk over hard frozen ground i think. Magic.
  7. Heaviest shower yet blowing through. 3rd day of snow showers blown in on a freezing East wind. Another hard frost to follow. Proper winter weather.
  8. Yes I totally agree Matt. Some people are being weirdly sulky and even borderline aggressive about this weeks weather just because it's not the end of days or something . All very odd.
  9. Another snow shower blowing in on a cold east wind. Hills surrounding all white. Great walk this morning skating on frozen puddles. More of the same tomorrow. Brilliant spell of proper winter in Belper. Love it.
  10. Snow swirling heavily outside on the coldest day of the year as shower after shower blows in. Snow is proper snow - not marginal wet gubbins that melts as soon as it falls. Another ice day tomorrow. Remains freezing all week with much potential for all. This is peak winter 20/21 so far for Belper and the environs (North and East midlands) ALL IS GOOD IN THE HOOD
  11. Siberian scene outside. Powder snow falling and settling from a lead grey sky. Likely to continue all day. Amber warning. Odd as i was told this was going to be "cack" and, also, that it was a , to paraphrase, 'lot of fuss about nothing'? Confusing
  12. Incorrect Matt. We have been categorically told on this forum that this will be all totally "cack" this week. Indeed many have (sulkily) said they "can't see what the fuss is all about".
  13. It's going to be freezing all week. Anything that falls from the sky will be snow. It's going to be great
  14. Oh dear someone is in a bad mood! :-). I think these words might come back to haunt you tbh. "Cack" i don't think it will be :-).
  15. I'm not sure I can take all this suspense again . Why can't we just get a nailed on, non marginal nationwide snowfall. Much less stress
  16. Today was so close to being another 'event' tbh. Snowing on the high ground around Belper.
  17. I'm starting to wonder actually whether the Derby area could be the, overall Midlands 'winner' in this event actually??
  18. Really? Oh man that's a shame. Yep been heavy here for a good 2 hours Id say. Must be so close to you!!
  19. Belper getting smashed. I'll stop moaning now. Happy lad
  20. Winter 20/21 summarised : 'snowing in the west Midlands again.' It's enough to make a grown man cry.
  21. I'm with you brother. Is there somewhere we can get our money back as this Winter is broken
