  1. I can report that it is now, as forecast, smashing down with snow in Belper. For this location the forecasts by met office have been spot on. (BBC for comparison just had rain)
  2. In the interest of transparency it is just cold rain at present in Belper. I have faith though. The snow is coming
  3. Dare I say it but some early over reactions happening. The cold and the snow was always forecast for later. Patience, young grasshoppers.
  4. There has been no downgrade in Belper area according to metoffice. Arguably a minor upgrade as pre 9am sleet is now showing as snow. Still a BOOM (ps: I have no altitude at my location).
  5. Polar Maritimeare they? Do you know who? I'm a local teacher and not heard of any yet.......(though I am waiting with baited breath!)
  6. Metoffice now sleet at 9 BUT freezing temperatures in afternoon. Steady as she goes. Still a BOOM
  7. The best metoffice app update all day. Kicks off with snow early doors now, then solid heavy snow all day. Boom!
  8. Clearly you are talking about central Manchester here. For north Manchester, certainly Oldham and beyond, the 1980s winters were about as good as it gets. But yeah, many a time then that Rochdale, say, was under tonnes of the stuff while a few miles down the Rochdale road would be nowt.
  9. So "solar activity" (something that happens 147.11 million km away from Earth) has, you say (checks notes) a significant impact on the weather in the UK but not for Eastern Europe (about 2000 km away). Whilst interesting it seems something of a pseudo science with little real meteorological interest.
  10. First snow of the weekend here in downtown Belper now. Been snowing moderately for 5 mins or so. Starting to settle.
  11. People in beer gardens every day in T shirts round here. Been like this for weeks now. Wall to wall sunshine. If this is a "ridiculous run of cold weather", count me in for more
  12. Easing off now. But some blobs round Sheffield look like they are heading my way. Another shower or two and will be waking up to a covering
  13. Massive flakes, heavy snow. Settling. Best 'event' of the year here I'd say. Dont care that it won't stick around. Enjoy the weather
  14. Heaviest snow of the year I'd say in Belper. Fantastic stuff!!
  15. To be honest, if it's variety you like in your weather (as i do, lurching from heat to cold), we are probably in the worst country in Europe for it. I'd say the only other competitors for boring, middling weather (unless your thing is wind speed) is Ireland and Portugal (the two other most maritime of countries).
  16. Snow! Not much but snow nevertheless. Love it
  17. The irony of this is (if i can borrow your phrase) is that the person who is taking this the most "serious" (an attitude which you rightly disapprove of) is you! . In post after weirdly weather morally judgemental post, you continue to moan and groan disbelievingly at some people wanting it to be cold. It's just the weather. It does what it does. Relax. And if someone wants to enjoy it, let them. Or if not spare me the hypocritical "some people take it too serious line" which, at the very least, shows a lack of self awareness. Chill out.
  18. Exactly. Silly crocodile tears. Weather happens. Plants die. Don't start laying down a guilt trip about it.
