  1. Just had the same exact experience with the same thing! Mayo on it remained nice though. My 2 thermos are reading just over 39c and just under 41c, same place in the shade. They are only cheap wooden backed ones though.
  2. 18z GFS operational producing a special run. One that would have us moaning that its too frozen and that we cant go anywhere. Oh wait, its lockdown! Seriously cold inland Wales and CET zone and Scotland, not getting above freezing from the blizzard at 162hours to 186hours onwards, however 2m temps affected by this lying snow, cold - potentially frozen nonetheless. This run is much better than the runs in the middle of the day such as the 06z and 12z as it brings back the colder airmass coming out of northern Scandanavia (-8c 850s and colder). A better through route of the cold from northern Siberia to Scandinavia to UK. Any colder than this and we might be saying be careful what you wish for, despite being cold weather fans. All a variation on the direction of travel anyway.
  3. Of course. This is an added vital point. Trouble is as well, would people venture out to get it? Lets hope so. Its the UK, maybe we would be spared more than a 10 day freeze but who knows
  4. The -40c 850s shown in Northern Siberia on the 18z GFS and their potential journey towards is fascinating, exciting but also a scary prospect. Let's face it, even if that airmass propelled itself toward us it would inevitably be moderated but if it was sort of -20c 850s for any period of time around 5 days or longer, this country would be in serious trouble. I remember looking forward to the 2018 BFTE and when it came my boiler kept cutting out due to condensate pipe freezing and eventually the heating broke completely as a valve went in the CH system. Once this happened I was praying that the weather would warm up and go above freezing as my house was being kept above 10c by patio heaters etc and it was unbearably cold with the easterley near gale howling through our dog flap, that ironically faces east! If a more severe, prolonged version occurred this year, especially in the main height of winter it would be incredible/ epic but would feel for people in peril. In these situations the cold can gain the upper hand and deliver such an impact on our normal routines and life, i.e. no thaw, heavy snows, burst pipes, unbearable windchill. The likes of which we never normally see. Having said that it would assist lockdown, reduce traffic and keep people inside.
  5. I like the warming trend on the GFS in that we seem to building high pressure from the south but which is on the move! It looks to be linking with northern blocking later in the run and aiding WAA into western Europe and atlantic to help blocking establish. So hopefully a short lived milder, drier spell followed by a better shot at drawing in real cold facilitated by proper blocking where we need it. As we head deeper into Winter more cold air will be available anyway. Much better than these sliders in -2/-3c 850 temp air and cold rain!
  6. Towers going up now to my SSE can see from upstairs window. North Warkshire sort of area is where they are I guess.
  7. Can but cant believe it! - last place where fret is hanging on in England, drives me nuts! Only just brightening now!
  8. Its probably something that sticks in the memory more as i am exposed to that direction and when it occurs it is 'cutting' even in summer but less.so today. Always seems to gust up to 20mph too. A nice summers day for me does not include gusty winds!
  9. We had been storm starved compared to much of the country in much of the last decade though here in the west midlands. Think i had a 5 storms in 6 days in the recent spell of thundery weather in June this year. My wife was in labour and at the same time we had a spectacular light show on the 16th up at Burton on Trent.
  10. South staffs South staffs/north warwickshire border
  11. Yeah and i bet it wont be any earlier than that. Youre right about lack of high ground. Glad that the prevailing wind direction isnt north east as our summers would be awful. Then again the south west prevailing wind is what makes the UK normally cloudy and murky with a long atlantic ocean track anyway. If only it was predominantly southerly off the continent.
  12. This area is terrible for succombing to north sea cloud. Its ruined so many summers days and half days when meant to be in a particular hot spell. Everyone was raves about the good summer of 2013 but seem to remember many days in that summer failed to reach more than say just above average. The east wind also destroys the spring recovery from winter when it arrives. It damaged my wisteria in May just gone and still damaged now. The wind also always seem be strong when its exactly ENE and persists for far too long, days sometimes and far outstays its welcome. Drives me insane as the plants and bushes get blown about in the garden as its particularly exposed to that direction!
  13. What are CIDPs? I have the others in my garden here in midlands, trachys grow well her also.
  14. North sea cloud here too, nagging breeze. Was 14.5c at 5.30am here when i got up to make up a bottle, did not feel like dawn you would expect in a hot spell. Had to close all the windows!
  15. It was 24c during the rain. Thats some warm autumn weather mate!
