  1. Morning all, a fair start here in South London/Surrey or wherever you geographically place Croydon, sitting at around 13c.

The only thing the forecasts seem to agree on is that we could reach 23c in these parts. Apart from that the BBC are going for wall-to-wall sun and everywhere else is going from a bit of cloud to complete cloud cover by mid-morning. Be interesting to see how that pans out.

Wind is genuinely cold here. Was chilly in London but here it's cold as in you need a fully on coat, hat etc when the sun goes down.

Regardless, it's only 14c and nearly midday which in my books is pretty poor for late May regardless of any wind.

Obviously it's localised because the west are having 20c+ the whole weekend.

    Oh well.

I have to agree, was in Central last night for a musical, around 5pm it was decent enough, by the time we've had food and left to get to the theatre at around 6.30 there was a chill in the air, by the time we got out at 10.10 my thin jumper really wasn't enough. With this breeze as you roll into the evening it's like a different world to what was usable a few hours before. We're out again today seeing some friends and I'm wearing my hoodie today!

  3. Hey all,
Another bright-night season is upon us. It's a season I don't get on with mainly as despite as dark as bedroom I can make my body always seems to decide to wake up as sunrise occurs so I'm fighting 5am wake-ups at present! Working in education the sun always seems to roll back to around 9pm sunset as the school year finishes which is 8 weeks or so away. I always find the May-July time difficult, I think it's due to mentally knowing that come August we start loosing daylight rapidly (3.5mins a day on average) and for whatever reason my body relaxes more.

I'm not a huge fan of the long-dark winter nights but I can get along with them better than the daylight period between May-July.

MetO forecast? Bah humbug -  mine shows, for today, "maximum temp 20C" Pfft, that seems impossibly optimistic, as it's grey and we've had a bit of that 'thing' where there's drizzle in the air, but it doesn't seem to reach the ground? Anyways didn't bother to put the washing out to dry... used the airer instead.

Totally agree, been promises for the last two days which have failed to deliver. Currently about 18c here and grey as far as you can see!

  5. Like others have said, the promise of a last few days of sun and warmth have failed to materialise (yet!) lots of cloud yesterday, with like drizzle which left everything a bit damp this morning. Signs around here that the skies are slowly (slowly being the word!) brightening but unsure if it will give away to any major sunny spells before sunset which seems to be getting earlier and earlier!

MO is going for a sunny day tomorrow now, with more cloud around on Sunday. BBC forecast this morning seemed to suggest the opposite! Currently somewhere between 15-16c with cloud.

  6. Far too warm here last night, it's a warm morning too, the only relief from the heat (set to be 28-29c around here today) is that we might get some more cloud this afternoon, with a chance of catching a storm or rain, but to be fair I'll take the cloud for a bit to be honest!

I got a 10k event at the weekend, and it's looking a tad different from the next few days for sure! Cooler and wetter!

    Morning @magicpatch

I know exactly where you’re coming from. ??
But now I’ve seen the darkness increasing at both ends of the day it feels like one less load to carry; and Lord alone knows I’ve got enough in my life to worry about at the moment… But this certainly feels like one less load to carry.

Morning @Dangerous55019, well it's nearly afternoon!

I guess I'm 'lucky' to be in the SE. Sunset this evening in London is around 9.15pm but this evening I'm travelling to the NW with my partner to see her parents, and amazingly sunset up there is 9.37pm! It's amazing how much a couple hundred of miles can make! I always tend to notice it more this time of the year as we roll through July the stark differences in the evening daylight between London and the NW. It wasn't the brightest of evenings yesterday but from the house it was looking dark outside by 9.20 but there's little chance of that this evening for me!

  8. Hi all,
I've found this thread interesting. For years I've felt that I've had 'Summer SAD', I don't mind the warmer (ha!) days, but part of my body has never got on with the period from middle of May until early August, it's something about the sunrise at stupid o'clock and waking me up from 5am for many months and then the thought of the sun not setting until 9.20pm just makes matters worse.

The days are rapidly shortening mind, not that I'm counting (much!), we've lost 5mins in the last week alone, then 9pm sunset in this part of the world is just over 2 weeks away, then before you know it its 8.30pm in just over a month! I always seem to feel more 'settled' around my birthday which is Mid-September when sunset moves to 7pm.

  9. Bright and sunny start to the day, garden sensor is showing around 15c but I always find it tends to show few degrees higher than it actually is. Highs expected of around 24c today, although the major forecasts show different sort of days ahead. MO going for mostly sunny all day, BBC and NW both seem to suggest similar to yesterday with fair weather cloud bobbling up throughout the day.

  10. A cloudy start here, had a few light outbursts of rain, radar seems to show lots of showers around this morning, so expecting periods of sun, cloud and rain today. Looks set to be a tad breezy up until Wednesday too.

Suggestions that the afternoon might be brighter, but this looks like the forecast for most of the week, at least its not bitterly cold in the mornings!
