  1. Hey Nick, Having a look at the charts myself (and I'm a beginner) I think there's a small chance the cap could break in western Oklahoma on the 23rd. My concern this year is the moisture return. Having been out there on Tour 1 and seen the extensive drought in the western southern plains I am wondering what effect the lack of ground level moisture will have on storm development. The dry line storms I would usually expect to fire in this area failed to develop on each occassion this year. Perhaps the drought is affecting this development? Wondering what your thoughts are on this? Fingers crossed for the coming week though. Could be good for those lucky enough to be out there! TJ x
  2. They may well have been according to some people *roll eyes*. Sadly our radar was limited so it's hard to say. LOL. Hope you guys are having fun. More Pics to come from me at the weekend. Jo -x-
  3. We started our chase day in the Best Western, Irving to discuss our strategy for the day. Anya suggested out first chase target as the Car Rental Car Park at DFW. We jumped on the shuttle from the hotel and made our way to the top floor. Armed with the car rental radar screen and mobile phone compasses we decided our best view point would be from the south west corner. We repositioned ourselves and waited patiently, checking the radar every 5 mins or so. Soon things started to look good. The sky was getting darker and planes were making hard turns immediately after takeoff. CGs began striking to our west. As the squall line drew closer we saw the base encroaching upon us and what we believe to be a gust front. Things got very bad, very quickly. We were soon being slammed with torrential rain, straight line winds, bullet thunder and lightening coming from all directions. This went on for over an hour. As soon as we realised a gap in the line was approaching we headed into car rentals to catch the coach to terminal D. We had identified our next target as Gate 16 in terminal D. We rushed through security and were soon repositioned. The storm was still taking a rest so we determined this was an excellent time for lunch. Just as the storm ramped up again we finished lunch. Upon consulting the radar and SPC it was apparent storm direction has changed slightly so we repositioned one again to Gate D20. We stayed here for the rest of the afternoon being treated to a lightening show. The runways were actually close for some time in the afternoon. The payoff for these storms was a delayed flight for most of us but this was definitely worth it. A successful day’s chase in all.
  4. Yesterday the remaining members of Tour 1 - Stu, Anya, Craig, Claire, Trevor and Jo - decided to chase........ At the airport. Here's the days briefing.
  5. On my way to the hotel. eta 2.5rs ish. FYI the shuttle from the terminal to the hotel is now £4.50. see u soon. j x
  6. Well, anything is better than nothing and even nothing is better than being stuck in the office so chin up everyone. We're going to have a fab time. Oh and weather gods.. ... Please? Lots of kisses and you can have my last rolo.
  7. No problem I got loadsa room. Done online check in. Seat 39k I think. I always get to the airport 3 hours before and in the past I have found it means you get through security etc quicker as the queues are bigger the later you go. Personally I'd rather be in the pub with drink for an hour or two than suck in a queue for that long! Do we want a time to meet or should we just meet in the weatherspoons whenever?
  8. YAY I think most of us are on the BA flight at 11.25. I'll also be in the bar at the hotel tomorrow night if anyone wants to join me? Not sure what time yet - depends on number of factors including vets, boyfriend and trains..... J x
  9. Hey everyone. I'm finally all packed. Tom, I nearly forgot my dorothy shoes! Going through tech now. Pretty sure I had 2 camera batteries last year but only have one now. Very confusing as its all in the bag where I left it. hmm maybe I'm imagining I did . . . .
  10. Chin up peeps. Theres loads to do in america. I vote we go Alien hunting in Roswell. Failing that we've got the black hills and colorado mountains. Theres the Cherokee reserves etc and the grand canyon. There must be theme parks or swimming pools as well. How bout a football match? asn't there a Twister museum or something as well? I'm sure it'll all work out fine. We'll have fun times no matter what!
  11. Can I bum a lift too? If not i don't mind sorting out the transfer provided by the hotel for whoever wants it

  15. Well If you can't get one in time you can always get it sent to me - as long as it will be delivered by next weds. Then I will bring it with me for you if you like? J x
  16. No, thats what my coat is for - it LOVES hail so much it jumps on my head hiding me so I can't see a thing! Rude if you ask me !!! Unfortunatly It was just poor quality fabric. I want a t-shirt but I don't want something that will wear out stupid quickly (as before) - especially as I intend to live in it!
  17. Bright side, at least we know we won't be missing anything on a travel day ;D
  18. May I ask where you are ordering the t-shirts from? I've had some made online before and the quality was horrible. Holes appearing after 1 or 2 washes. Cheers J x
  19. I so want to pack but I can't as I have to pack for my sisters wedding first, then unpack after that and repack for stormchasing. I'm thinking the unpacking n repacking may be done at the same time. yay.
  20. Been watching this as my friend is flying back from orlando today. It looks pretty bad.
  21. Thsts how caxton works. It's a prepay credit card come cashcard and is invaluable. I think fairFX is the same and I know you can do the same with santander's credit card with no fees but you get a poor exchange rate. It's nearly time....
