  1. Starting to gust nicely up here. Windows making odd noises..trees bending double. Given up on the blue bin..lights starting to flicker..glad I got the torch out
  2. Had a quite squally burst at around 2:30 then blue skies and relatively calm winds, just starting to go dark and blustery again.. like the seas parted for the school run I forsee a fun and noisey night! Stay safe everyone..
  3. Well the wheelie bins are making a run for it, let's see what the next few hours brings
  4. Starting to get a bit gusty now, nothing out of the ordinary just yet, but a definate increase
  5. I've had sky news on this morning, between that and browsing various websites I'm starting to become slightly concerned. We are very exposed up here... Whilst the weather enthusiast in me feels quite excited the homeowner in me is hoping for no serious damage.
  6. I've got out a few torches with fresh batteries and a stack of candles..just in case.
  7. wow! That's a scary prospect. The damage that could cause doesn't bare thinking about.. hope everyone over there stays safe.
  8. Thanks Paul, it's the down side of living so high up. Brilliant for snow but the wind barrels across the top of the valleys and regularly causes slight damage. The last storm of 60 mph+ saw most of the ridge tiles lost on houses up here. Guess it's a case of hope for the best.
  9. Woken up to a mega light dusting of snow. Bit depressing realy lol. Noticed met o have now included south yorks in the amber warning, should be an interesting evening for us..my elderly neighbour has a very neglected chimney stack and roof, with the met sugesting 70 mph gusts I'll be suprised if we get away with no damage up here.
  10. It's mainly all melted here, still a little left over redmires way. Well I suppose theres tomorrow to get through next. Expecting a gusty night up here.
  11. Sorry! Can't argue with mother nature
  12. Woo hoo! It turned to snow at about 9:00am temp 1ºc currently Just starting to settle. .best make the most of it, met office seem to think temp will rise later..hope it doesn't
  13. Absolutely hammering down with rain here, looks like there may be a few sleety bits..but on the whole very wet!
  14. Slightly breezy this A.m.. neighbours fence is down again..
  15. It's so far been a crap winter for coldies. I've seen winters with little snow, but the amount of rainfall has been incredible really. Our garden doesn't drain well (clay based soil) but I've not seen it this waterlogged in the seven years I've lived here. I'd go as far as to say it looks like there's a natural spring running down part of it! The ground just won't drain away further rainfall, must admit I'm looking forward to spring now too
  16. Howling round the chimney and the rain is bouncing off the windows on the southern side of the house. Not sure on wind speed because I'm all cosy upstairs listening to it all! I ain't shifting this evening...
  17. I remember last march..it was the 25th (my birthday) Woke up to an immense pile of snow and six foot drifts, it was the best present ever!
  18. Yesterday was almost like spring! I sat outside with the sun shining on my face, around four p.m my weather station was registering 6º. There are roses budding to bloom in the garden..crazy!
  19. Ho hum.. wind and rain again today then. Such a mild winter..mild and soggy. I was talking with my husband yesterday, I can remember a few winters that were so cold my morning task was defrosting the boiler outlet pipe, -15 I think we reached that year. At least I got to sit amd watch some snow falling..even if it was only a few hours
  20. Bet it completely misses Sheffield. What a let down
  21. I see met office have me down for light snow showers from 9 tonight, hope my elevation helps to catch a few showers.
  22. Met office replaced the snow symbol for my area with a sleet one for friday this winter sucks..
  23. Well our coverage of snow was short lived, as soon as the sun rose and sent the temps a few degrees higher it turned to rain. I'm guessing that it's going to be a mainly snowless winter this year, hopefully Fridays will deliver us a bit of the white stuff..fingers crossed
  24. Had a few wintery showers yesterday afternoon, I thought I heard a distant rumble of thunder. Keeping my fingers crossed for somthing more substantial next week
