  1. Glad I went to bed when I did this morning...just not enough intensity to make it here with any force. Managed (yet) another dusting, but the highest total we got here after almost 4 days of constant dandruff was about 1.5-2cm. Bring on the frontal snow next time is all I can say! Streamers just don't seem to do it for this location. Congrats to those who got pasted...not envious at all
  2. You couldn't make it up....waited to see what the oncoming blob would deliver. And nothing....disappeared on approach. Bed is calling...Good luck fellow SW Essex/Londoners....hope it lays for a few, but yet again it doesn't seem to have the legs to get inland too far in these parts.
  3. My personal opinion (and sure it's dictated by the lack of settled snow here, just as people who currently have boatloads of it will disagree) is that streamers are an absolute lottery and a complete waste of time unless you are one of the favoured few. 4/10 for this spell here, and that's being generous for the shear snowfall longevity given that it's actually produced next to nothing here. Give me frontal snow any day of the week...at least then it's not usually an argument between those that want a ENE vs NE...
  4. Dreaded sound of dripping on the balcony...icicles have all but gone. Still snowing lightly as it has done continously since the start of this event, and has amounted to a grand total of....about 1cm, if I'm generous. Meanwhile, my mother continues to bait me by showing me photos of Biggin Hill
  5. Just on a break from work (C2C driver). Southend at 1900 was beautiful....snow so heavy it sounded like rain (it wasn't!) hitting the windscreen at 65mph. Westcliffe, Chalkwell , Leigh and Benfleet were similar but then started easing off for the rest. Interesting to see snowfall along the entire route...even a patchy covering right up to the platforms at Fenchurch St! Looking at the radar, I'm in for an interesting night until I finish at 0150.
  6. You couldn't make it up...even with what little is falling in the local area, there has been a show shield hole on the radar around Romford for hours
  7. Poor showing here today. Considering the vast amount of snow floating around, just the roofs and cars have a slight covering.
  8. Slightly annoyed waking up briefly at 0600 to see....nothing. The gradual westward movement seems to be continuing and even in Romford it's starting to stick to cars, roofs and greenery...just hope it's got the legs to continue.
  9. Time for bed....although there's a hint of sleet in the heavier bursts here even now. Reports from Mother in Biggin that it's also trying to turn up there too are encouraging. I shall look forward to the morning...Night all and good luck
  10. Light snow in Romford...again. Unless I'm mistaken though...that precip is weakening significantly as it comes back down.
  11. Well, this turned out better than I thought it would. First clue was seeing a Heathrow arrival holding over Romford...unusual given the lack of air traffic. Then I saw the radar.... Please hold together and don't turn to sleet and rain!!!
  12. The flooding didn't close the line...I drove through it twice...albeit at 5mph. What did do the trick, however, was a number of trains knackered by some overhead line problems. Caused merry hell this afternoon and evening, but thankfully I was back home before it all kicked off. It wasn't a boring day to be a driver
  13. Stopped here now....the 0.01mm precipitation is woefully short of the 8in I was hoping would stop me driving the train later today
  14. Lightest of light snow showers in Romford! My first snow in about 2 years. On the plus side, the flakes may be tiny but it's certainly not a wintery mix!
  15. Hmm....annoying and confusing. Pretty much all areas around Romford have reports of settling snow. Maybe not much, but settling all the same. Here, it's settled on car windscreens as a slushy mess. I hate winter sometimes
  16. Very light flakes in Fenchurch St....if it can snow here, then......
  17. So given that this was meant to be an overnight job....has this front sped up and is ahead of schedule? Or have we got more to come from backbuilding/stalling?
  18. Snow just started in Barking.. took it's time, but pretty rapid transition when it did.
  19. Final bit of Thames assisted intensification here in Romford....not heavy by any means, but persistently covering the roads again!
  20. Nick L just in the Kent thread....latest EC gives 2-5 CM across the SE by midnight! ?
  21. See Rao has thrown his hat into the ring with some usual, conservative forecasting. I apologise in advance for dirtying this thread with a Daily Express link.... https://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/925413/UK-snow-weather-snow-storm-Emma-forecast-Thursday-Friday-latest
  22. Apparently pretty bad...even in Romford I've probably caught another cm or two, and the main road, even though busy, has been covered again... Funny thing...but the radar must be a bit tetchy today.....I've been under no echoes of any note, but it was certainly coming down a few minutes ago. That pulse just south of you looks like it'll veer NW around you, but if the band currently affecting South Essex holds together, it may have your name all over it...
  23. You're welcome No such lofty ambitions here.....I just love snow, and like to know how bad a day at work I'm going to have in advance....today is not looking great at the moment It's an evil situation....love the snow, but not too keen on driving trains in blizzards. I dodged a bullet yesterday with failures all around me...might not be so lucky today
