I'm off to the Italian Alps for the first two weeks of July and a cursory glance at various LRF and charts paint a rather depressing picture but I'm no expert. Could you be so kind to give me a taster of what you think lies ahead. The area I'll be is Valtellina which is south of St Moritz. Cheers

Overall theme for the northern half of the country seems to be "drying out" for this month and the next (as per CFS anom). Can't say I'm unhappy to see that...

Well, here is hoping for a few weeks of this, as long as the grey skies stay east...Hills need drying out a bit!

Indeed SK, Matt works for the AA, he can't go on posting "Boom!" when a chart in deep FI shows something cute or go on wild tangents as it can be done on here. I follow him, he is NW based and he provides good updates for my area.

Saturday Fine weather with plenty of sunshine and good visibility. Moderate east to northeasterly winds. Sunday Staying fine and settled with high pressure ridge persisting. Moderate north or northeasterly winds with excellent visibility. Looks fine to me...Lakes District mountain weather forecast...

Went out to say hello to mates running the marathon today (handily, the course took them a few hundred yards where I live...), 30min out there was enough, comically awful weather...

With this setup are showers prevalent during the day leaving the nights relatively dry?

Long hike on and around Kinder, a fair chunk off path. My boots were cleaner after...Very dry up there and the level of Kinder reservoir seemed lower than it should. The streams were far from peak conditions, Kinder Downfall was reduced to very little (shame as the strong wind was blowing the righ way to create the always entertaining uphill waterfall effect...)
