  1. Chilly at just 4'C - clear sky with only a slight wind (which is actually making it feel even colder)
  2. I think this emoticon should be banned: Really makes Netweather quite a stressful forum to be on
  3. I like your cat avatar Gilly, is that a George Foreman or a suitcase it's in?
  4. I think what you're referring to is the Viking settlers? They never established much of a society beyond the southern tip of Greenland I believe, much of the country was still very harsh cold climate - the "green" part of Greenland is likely either an example of early propaganda (to entice settlers) or a variation of the early Scandinavian word "grund" meaning ground. Even today, Southern Greenland is somewhat green and fertile during summer.
  5. Massive rumble of thunder in Inverness a matter of seconds ago Certainly not, 30'C would be (or just about) a record for Inverness - I forget, but I think it's in the range of 29.8'C - 30.2'C ish
  6. iz there really? edit: evidently not - that really is strange!
  7. I sometimes have difficulty sleeping as a result of the twilight - no matter which way I shift my bed while home for the summer, I can still see the orb of light slowly moving across the sky from sun"set" to sun"rise". Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that it's light until beyond 11 up here, great for BBQs, parties, sport etc - but I do like to have pitch darkness while sleeping. Midwinter on the other hand
  8. 22'C in Inverness on Sunday, was truly beautiful - even the slight wind was warm! Went down to the river, played football for a couple of hours then went down to Loch An Eilean for a BBQ and some drinks (and all on the Sabbath!) - really enjoyed it. Heavy rain showers and cooler with ocassional bursts of sunshine today - hoping for a little more warm weather soon
  9. He's nearly as popular on the Scottish thread as he is on the Irish
  10. I've got to admit, I go out in plimsolls in the snow all the time. I've had a pair during both the severe cold spells over the past two years and although my granny absolutely despises it, it doesn't really bother me at all.
  11. Actually, what LSS is referring to is that only light snow was forecast, - 2-5cm for most of lowland Scotland. What fell was closer to 10-15cm and the warnings were not updated causing much of the Central Belt to suffer from some very difficult travel conditions. They certainly should not get a tick for being some 200% off in terms of forecasted snowfall. Also, many people have praised the Met Office for their long-range accuracy.
  12. Most likely up here in the Scottish Highlands, parts of Cairngorm can get up to 10 metres of snow.
  13. Still a good covering here and had about an hour or so of light snow with strong winds, so a white Christmas in all respects and the second in a row!
  14. Thanks OON I'll be out with my camera following the heavy snowy of the next few days
  15. An Torrin Elaghol Eige / Eigg Gleann Fhionnainn / Glenfinnan
  16. I would disagree that it's like a fad or fashion, it's ingrained in the culture and makes Skye (and the rest of the Highlands for that matter) what it is. Can't see the increasing trend in more Gaelic learners dying out any time soon - it's important that we have these rights.
  17. The Isle of Skye is just so beautiful, I love it! Where are you from originally? The Highlands, lowlands or England? Edit: Oh and I really like your photos too - many thanks My apologies LOTS, I assumed that you were a Sgitheanach yourself or that like many of those who have moved there you'd learned a little bit of the language - thanks for sharing your photos.
  18. Tha an t-eilean Sgitheanach cho breagha, tha gaol agam oirre! Co as a tha thu? A' Ghaidhealtachd no a'Ghalltachd no Sassain? Edit: Oh agus 's toigh leam do dhealbh cuideachd! Moran taing!!
