ireland Ireland Regional Discussion - Autumn 2013
The watcher replied to The watcher's topic in Regional
Unsettled weather looks like returning now for Tuesday with us probably fairing worst for rainfall through next week. Looks like alot of England will escape with just a few scuffs through the week. I'm away to East Midlands on Wednesday for Download festival. Should be fun if the Thundery rain event rings true on Wednesday or Thursday, but a little shift and I'll get the all clear. -
Ireland Summer thread here: http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/76830-ireland-regional-discussion-summer-2013/ This thread now locked.

A new thread for the Summer season and it looks like starting well as we move into next week. BBQ's at the ready.
-
Going to move over to the Summer thread now, couldn't get to it yesterday, getting tortured by my little angel.

A great loss to the chasing and research teams of America. He was one of the most Illustrious and always ahead of the game researchers. Thanks for all your hard work. RIP.

Model Output Discussion 12z 23/05/13
The watcher replied to phil nw.'s topic in Forecast Model Discussion
GFS in it's later output puts Low pressure to the N and W and High pressure building in the Channel and North Sea. I know it's FI in its greatest form, but this is the period I'm interested in at the minute due to being Download festival week. Then again, in SLP terms, I wouldn't count 1012/1016mb as Low Pressure really. If I was to describe the GFS output in a few words in total, it'd be decidedly edgy throughout with a trough never too far away. -
Had a heavy hail shower earlier with a flash and rumble. First in 2 years and a bit. Looking ahead, I'm quite confident of a more settled spell for June. I've all the Download festival goers excited at the prospects of the festival weather this year, running from 11-16th June, it's been looking alright until today. Hope it doesn't go tits up or I'll be sickened after promising a far more settled spell and sunnier than last year. I'll be starting a new thread for Summer come 1st June aswell, so eyes open for that later in week.

Model Output Discussion 12z 10/05/13
The watcher replied to phil nw.'s topic in Forecast Model Discussion
The prospect for a settled start to June has been thought about for over a week now, the signs seem to be pointing in that general direction for the first 2 weeks to be of a settled nature courtesy of a building Azores in our general direction and now the models begin to hint at this. It'll be a tussle for a while as we usually see with the models, but I think the settled outcome is favored at the moment. Just last week the MJO was pointing in that direction with a phase 1 by end of May, although not a very amplified one at that. Of course there is a long while yet to go in model terms, and with a ridging Azores it is all dependent on the energy South and West of Greenland at the time and the movement of energy off the Eastern US Seaboard. Things do look to be slacking off in the Atlantic over the next 10 days too. I would hedge my bets on a settled 1 or 2 weeks to begin June at the moment. -
May 2013 CET Forecasts (2012-13 CET Competition)

Shouldn't have went with my snooker related 14.7 then (curse you world championships).....by far the most I've ever been out I'd think. -
Chris Hadfield back to Earth..

I'd make that Number 1 in the music charts. Fantastic video too. -
Cheers MS.

That's a question I had BFTV. When the MJO is at a low amplitude, what does it mean?
-
Promising signs of summer towards months end and into June. Phase 1 MJO composite for June looks mighty fine. Azores heading NE.
-
It has been wet and quite windy at times, but when the sun comes out for a little bit, it feels nice. Had heating back on yesterday, it was chilly for May.
-
The Big 40, goodness gracious, have a good one. Don't drink it all now, you'll need more for tomorrow looking at how wet it will be. Or you could just stand outside, that will drown you alright. It's not just you, I haven't had heating on in over a week and windows open last few days.
-
Good luck y'all and have fun.

Those Scottish Isle beaches remind me of Donegals beaches, absolutely stunning scenery. Not much here in N.Ireland apart from up near Portrush. Very cold but good for surfing.
-
Quite warm but overcast yesterday afternoon, seems similar today. The isolated chance of a little thunder for N and W today.

May 2013 CET Forecasts (2012-13 CET Competition)
The watcher replied to Roger J Smith's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
I'm going to punt at (snooker related) 14.7c Very high but still in the realms of possible. -
Few April showers this week and nice anvils, but still haven't heard some thunder. Must be near 3 years now.
-
Still not what I class as t-shirt weather, but saving the heating around the house. I usually like 25c upwards.

World Snooker Championship + top 10 favourite players
The watcher commented on Thundery wintry showers's blog entry in The Land of TWS (aka Ian)
I couldn't do a top 10, I like attacking players and crazy shots, most of the players are too robotic. For example, I was on 63 break the other day and took on a double on the pink rather than a straight black, because the double released the last 2 reds from the cushion, just unlucky it bobbled, heading for my 2nd century break. -
Test, 1, 2 and 3. Edit: Working now. Ctl f5 did the trick.

Rain arriving as I type, been a very dry couple of weeks.
