  1. Last winter wasn't bad at all for snow and cold, started off slow but picked up and March was crazy for snowfall and depth in local areas.
  2. Hopefully I won't know for a while yet, but I don't expect anything.....so it'll be a surprise if a big sign comes up saying "Level 2" and I'm a reborn millionaire. I suppose it's better though to get busy living rather than ponder over death.
  3. I don't believe the air-pressure theory but rather just that they get caught up/hit by the blades. http://www.midwestenergynews.com/2012/03/01/study-turbine-blades-not-air-pressure-kill-bats/
  4. I seen this argument somewhere before but it was put down as a myth. Generally most animals tend to stay away from large moving man made objects.
  5. Nights getting markedly early now. I'm starting to get excited about the prospects of winter 2013/14.
  6. Found this quite an interesting way to describe their late season stinging spree. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/nature/drunk-wasps-may-attack-us-warns-red-cross-8798272.html
  7. Last day of summer 2013 and Autumn starting in less than 14 hours. Soon we'll be hunting down on those cold winter spells and looking for some snow. I wonder if we'll see a stormy Autumn for a change.
  8. Nothing too interesting of late happening, slightly on the dry side with a mixed bag of weather. Autumn hot on the heels and possibly a windy affair coming up later next week.
  9. Some angry clouds around the last few days in the cooler airmass, but no storms near me. The cooler nights are bliss at least. Maybe some light at the end of the tunnel in a weeks time, hoping something drier and clearer turns up by months end for the Portrush airshow. Maybe if a few of you are making the trip we could arrange a small meet-up?
  10. In the many million years of the Earths existence I'm sure we'll have had a similar pattern to what this and recent summers have seen, problem is, many weren't that interested in recording it, or didn't know how. We haven't had great summers, but we shouldn't expect to have them in abundance either.
  11. Probably one of the best and most photogenic funnels I have seen in a long time if ever. Looks like it'd have been a wedge had it touched down.
  12. Been watching Saturdays weather avidly in hope that it turns out good as I'm taking the little minx daughter to the Airshow in Newcastle. Looks to be alright so far, mainly sunny with a few scattered showers. It's her Birthday week so my wallet will take a battering but at least I get to see the Airshow also.
  13. Yes, went down to the pier to try get some photos of the strange shelf cloud that was stretching across the coast line but it had moved overhead and lost it's photogenic touch when I got there.
  14. There was a textbook thunderstorm over Belfast direction around 5pm yesterday. Would have been a great photo opportunity if I had my camera out with me and got it from Bangor pier.
  15. There are only select animals that are required to keep the natural cycle of the world in balance, parasites like these aren't one of them and....unfortunately neither are we (as smart as we may be). Although I don't think all animals will celebrate if humans became extinct......or would they.
  16. I obviously have too much faith in people. I see the Galway one was a fake, it did look a tad strange which I should have noted. Not sure about the shannon image though. I would say the Shannon one is faked too judging by the picture quality and the thing looks a bit like a large one that hit USA that I remember seeing pictures of.
  17. Exactly where I spotted the reports ABNS, also found this on RTE News site. http://www.rte.ie/news/2013/0801/465908-tornado-galway/
  18. Reports of at least 2 tornadoes in Ireland today. A waterspout off Galway bay and a Tornado in Shannon. I'm sure someone will have more details later.
  19. Bottom half of Ireland is the zone, risk of tornadoes, so hopefully we'll get some pics and vids later from the crew down there.
  20. I thought there might have been something on that first band that ran through as the back edge swung past. The movement of it was very suspicious and I said to a few folk about it. I was working in Ards but the movement in the cloud was amazing. Rotated for you here.
  21. More thunder today, my 2nd overhead storm after yesterdays first since December 2010. That's 4 days of thunder this week and probably 6 or 7 storms passed and around 60+ thunder claps.
  22. Yep, and I was in Ards working. Radar still has some showers moving across towards us and Belfast, be in our vicinity shortly.
  23. I have the Newcastle airshow and Northern Ireland International Airshow in my sights. 2 weeks to Newcastle. Which is boasting 5 jets and includes the Irish Air Force too. Looking forward to seeing the Typhoon for the first time, the Vulcan, Hunter and Jet Provost.
  24. After today's closest shave of the summer so far tomorrow looks odds on for my first overhead storm. Although today I must have heard at least 30 rumbles of thunder. UKASF has me under the North Ireland moderate and looking at charts convergence West to East and -4 LI with 1000j/kg of cape. Surely.
  25. Storms all around me, and not a shower of rain. That's my day in a nutshell. Had a close one earlier just a few miles away at around 2:30pm and since then been hearing thunder all day every few minutes or less. What is it going to take for me to get an overhead storm. Beautiful convection today though. Few shots on camera which I will get up when I get a cable/sd card sorted for my camera.
