  1. 3rd day in a row of double figures rainfall. Windy and heavy rain at the moment. All fells have disappeared into the gloom
  2. Heavy rain overnight and continuing into daylight hours. Some squally gusts with some of the heavier rain. Blencathra and Sharp Edge just appeared out of the murk. All snow has gone. Blue sky just appeared in a hole in the clouds. It's going to being a wild day.
  3. In my part of the lakes just 0.4mm of rain since midnight. Makes a change Yesterday rainfall total 19.1mm
  4. Whatever happened to those telephone warnings?
  5. Overnight frost. All surfaces white. Low of minus 1.1c. Looking forward to long periods of unbroken sunshine today, the lake district will be at its best.
  6. The climate has always been in constant state of change, without that, life on earth would have been been impossible. These changes, some good some bad, will continue whatever man may think he can do about them. These facts should also be referred to, rather than the narrative continually being one of fear.
  7. Just checked on all my local summits and can see many of walkers on the high points. Presumably not many appreciate the danger of lightning and a mountain environment.
  8. Blencathra has it's cloudy cap on .... hazy sunshine ... very warm
  9. Lovely in the wild north of the lake district. A lot of cloud but tops are clear. Sun punching through the clouds frequently giving superb sunscapes on the fells. Dry and windy. A wonderful day in the lake district.
  10. A little brighter up here in the northern lakes this morning although very low cloud has most of the tops covered. I can however, see that High Rigg and Catbells are clear. Overnight dry, 0.5mm of drizzle has fallen since 0600. Overnight low temp, a muggy 15.8c and now 17.0c. My weather station is forecasting the strongest winds over the next 7 days since 9 April and rain falling on every day accept tomorrow. Temperatures below 20c for the next 7 days. What a contrast.
  11. vivid flash of lightning through the clouds over Blencathra and splintering crack of thunder followed by torrential rain. Summer monsoon has arrived
  12. Dry overnight with a minimum temp of 9.5c and slate grey overcast skies to start. Heavy to moderate from 1000 and all tops cloud covered.
  13. Rainfall of 13.2mm from 1900 last night to 0200 this morning. Overnight rainfall to 0800 amounted to 2.1mm and minimum temperature of 13.6c. Light rain showers to start with full cloud and all tops covered.
  14. Drought well and truly over in this part of the lake district, very heavy rain most of the evening and currently 6.6mm in the rain gauge. Forecast is for 17.7mm to fall this evening and a further 4.1mm tomorrow. I would be surprised if there isn't local flooding.
  15. Still good lengthy sunny spells in the northern lake district
