  1. A colleague of mine has been working in the Kara Sea and areas to the east this summer and by all accounts sea temps are approx 3c below average and the local authorities are planning an early ice incursion closing ports this month, instead of early November.
  2. Hey Guys, bit of a lurker i'm afraid and as you'll clearly see i'm still scraping the surface in terms of knowledge. Here are my questions based on what i have read in this thread, isn't this a positive point for future vortex disruption from a downward warming in the NH due the increase in the transport of ozone to the pole? or, do i have it the wrong way around? If the above is correct. Based on Mountain torque events and where they originate (asian,US etc) at first glance they have appear to have downstream impact on specific regions? Can the same be said for the top down warmings that are associated with increased ozone, or is the impact from this increase so small it becomes irrelevant due to the more major and shorter lead time factors? I look forward to your responses, either way. Rich
  3. I also live in Plymouth so you might want to look out of your window as we have just had a dusting!
  4. The orientation of the features would indicate con trails as usually transatlantic flights head north or northwest as its the straightest route! Good luck in your investigation.
  5. Just had a look on google maps and it turns out Ross Bay is near Stranrear, who Knew!?!
  6. Again I'm at work in the Irish Sea, off the coast near Ross Bay in SW Scotland. Some heavy showers with haill up tp 1/2 inch with gusting winds up to 40 knots, winds speeds taken from the bridges odometer around 1330 BST. As I type another heavy shower is looming, cloud structure and heights look nothing like the earlier ones.
  7. There always seems to be a period of stable weather towards the end of May and again for about 10-14 days in September, it's always a gamble!. Avoid July and August, you have to remember that if it is sunny its going to be HOT and in a suit and your wife in a big dress you'll soon be stressing about being to hot (remember too much beer and sun is bad for you). Good luck with your wedding preperations.
