Huge flakes!

The snow has picked up in last half hour and its covering over again. If the snow was heavier and thicker it would be white-out conditions with that wind!

Still snowing moderately however the dusting has already melted off most surfaces. Not adding up to much and a poor snow event thus far.

I reckon there should of been Warnings for tonight as this wind is already brutal and howling like crazy. Suprised that the warning don't start until tomorrow.

We got another dusting on top of the 1inch of snow that has remained since Tuesday. Not too shabby really but its now back into the stormfest of UK weather we go!

Heaviest snow of the day for the past 15 mins and the air temp dropping quick. Shame the dp is going the other way and conditions now, unlike earlier, are not suitable for settling snow.
Yes same here as of a few mins ago. Huge flakes! Still have most of the snow on the ground from this morning too.

Temp up and down here due to the cloud from the showers to my west. Currently -0.7°C. Dry.
GFS has potential rain/snow snow/rain events back on for this weekend.
Yes snow possible at weekend, if you live on Mount Snowdon or Ben Nevis.. Not great looking charts today post the next few days. Mild, very wet and looking super stormy. Surely this has to be one of the stormiest and wettest winters for a long while. Can't say I didnt expect it because with Enso postive and negative winters we have 70-80% of the time ended up with abysmal winters. Most of our snowiest winters occured in Enso Neutral winters.
Just to clarify I am talking beyond Friday

I think we've pretty much dispensed with anything north of the Channel.
I know, it was more to highlight our region rather the south

This post will probably get removed but I needed to say this (what I think is) criticism of “Cheshire” is well wide of the mark, in my opinion. I suspect he doesn’t need me to defend him but he’s one of a select few on here who balances enthusiasm for cold with the realism of where things are heading, based on his experience. His relative quietness on here since this chase got moving was a warning sign to me, which has been borne out. Those of us who’ve followed this thread for years will know he would have been “all over this” cold spell had he had confidence it would have delivered.
Yes because the old and wise members know that things can and will go the way of the pear most of the time when model output reaches the reliable timeframes. There was never really anything special synoptic wise shown including the GL block which the models all watered down to an extent. Robust easterlies with undercutting lows are always the best for UK wide snow imo and as with model output, northerlies arn't great with the "wish bone effect". Even when a NW/ Westerly component kicks in temporarily, I don't expect much from it tbh.
I said it in the Regional thread.. Never set yourself up for a fall.

The trough is slow moving and associated with some heavy precipitation on the UKV. It’s a massive shame rain is predicted near the coast though. If it was all snow…..
Take it with a pinch of salt mate. Ever heard the term "Wish bone effect" on here ? Thats usually what happens in a northerly. Cumbria should do well in any case.

I was just looking at the Archive because back in 1996 the charts went from this > to this >> and on the 5th Feb 96 I went to work on the private bus and by late morning some of the most brutal blizzards kicked in. The employer at the time tried to force the 60 ish man work force to stay until the end of the shift even though by late morning the snow was already getting towards 1ft in depth. I decided by lunch that I was staying so left without permission to walk the 3 mile journey home up Denshaw via Ripponded road toward sholver. By the time I got onto the main road the drifting was so bad that stranded lorry cabins had even been burried! Cars stuck all the way down ripponden from Grains bar. Ploughs couldnt even get through and the blizzards lasted all day. By the time I got on Sholver there were abandoned buses with doors left open. I don't even know if 2009/10 or 2018 beat that day. Brutal and just goes to show a terrible looking chart can deliver big time.

People were on about red warnings yesterday. The only red thing we’re likely to see is the red mist of another winter weather fail.
Indeed mate, never set yourself up for big fall. Still hard to say what exactly will happen especially when you have that UKMO HD model throwing out copious amounts of snow for large portion of the UK. But then again I admit I've not really view that particular UKMO model before.

Absolutey depressing weather now. Wet and dull winter overall and not particularly mild feeling at all. We need a good stretch of warm sunshine now not just for moods and activities but for my Garden! This is the first time the Brick walls fences, paths in the back have all gone green with Algae! Got a lot of Jet washing coming up.
