Absolutey depressing weather now. Wet and dull winter overall and not particularly mild feeling at all. We need a good stretch of warm sunshine now not just for moods and activities but for my Garden! This is the first time the Brick walls fences, paths in the back have all gone green with Algae! Got a lot of Jet washing coming up.

Yes snow possible at weekend, if you live on Mount Snowdon or Ben Nevis.. Not great looking charts today post the next few days. Mild, very wet and looking super stormy. Surely this has to be one of the stormiest and wettest winters for a long while. Can't say I didnt expect it because with Enso postive and negative winters we have 70-80% of the time ended up with abysmal winters. Most of our snowiest winters occured in Enso Neutral winters. Just to clarify I am talking beyond Friday

Yes because the old and wise members know that things can and will go the way of the pear most of the time when model output reaches the reliable timeframes. There was never really anything special synoptic wise shown including the GL block which the models all watered down to an extent. Robust easterlies with undercutting lows are always the best for UK wide snow imo and as with model output, northerlies arn't great with the "wish bone effect". Even when a NW/ Westerly component kicks in temporarily, I don't expect much from it tbh. I said it in the Regional thread.. Never set yourself up for a fall.

I was just looking at the Archive because back in 1996 the charts went from this > to this >> and on the 5th Feb 96 I went to work on the private bus and by late morning some of the most brutal blizzards kicked in. The employer at the time tried to force the 60 ish man work force to stay until the end of the shift even though by late morning the snow was already getting towards 1ft in depth. I decided by lunch that I was staying so left without permission to walk the 3 mile journey home up Denshaw via Ripponded road toward sholver. By the time I got onto the main road the drifting was so bad that stranded lorry cabins had even been burried! Cars stuck all the way down ripponden from Grains bar. Ploughs couldnt even get through and the blizzards lasted all day. By the time I got on Sholver there were abandoned buses with doors left open. I don't even know if 2009/10 or 2018 beat that day. Brutal and just goes to show a terrible looking chart can deliver big time.
