Bring on September warmth I say. It takes a hell of a lot for warmth to be unpleasant in September, and with the long nights it means it actually cools down that bit more. Lovely month. And all the feral kids are back in prison school
Not easy to publicly apologise so thank you. The two months definitely cancelled each other out. I do wonder how public perception would have changed if June and July were swapped.
It's been a great summer for avoiding unpleasant heat. June was superb for the most part, rarely got uncomfortable. Having numerous days of widespread 30C+ in this country is not the norm and it's nice to have a more normal summer.
The Autumnal feeling is now creeping in and I'm all for it. We're lucky to have such defined seasons.
Danm has pretty much explained but yeah, the sun angle at this time of year is the equivalent of what it would be on 20th April. People often get caught out with the sun strength in April, I easily burn at that time of year!
Both EC and UKV have it clearing nicely for all areas roughly south of a line from Bristol to Peterborough. I do feel for those in Wales over the last week with how nice it's been further SE.
Today is a great example of why I love warm spells in late August/into September. You can easily get very pleasant days, but the sun is less strong and the mornings tend to be fresh. Plus there isn't sunlight streaming in through the curtains before 5am!
Slightly depressing thought is that this is looking like the last week of widespread mid-20s for a while, perhaps for the rest of the year. Looking like returning to, at best, average temps after this warm spell for the foreseeable.
Yeah for E and SE England it was less bad than elsewhere for sure, but the deluge elsewhere wasn't just confined to the NW:
And agreed regarding the 30C days. That's exactly the point many of us are trying to make. It never used to be the norm that we would be guaranteed multiple 30C days each summer, it used to be pretty noteworthy but the goalposts have shifted so far in the last 10 years or so that it may as well be a different sport altogether. 35C has become the new 30C in recent years for being the benchmark of noteworthy warmth.
It's a summer chat thread, it's a perfectly acceptable post. If you think it's worth reporting, you know where the button is. Otherwise, let's cut out the gatekeeping.
Hear hear. One great big plus for this summer is the near absence of unpleasant heat. June was consistently very warm for a prolonged period as opposed to hot, which is far more enjoyable than 3 days of 35C+!
Unfortunately they're all much of the same, simply taking in raw model data and applying no human input at all. All apps struggle with the concept of showers.
Best route to go down is read human-written forecasts (such as the Met Office or BBC) or take a look at hi-res models such as UKV. UKV had a completely dry morning, perhaps with the odd shower drifting in across Staffs and Shropshire this afternoon.
