  1. I think this current spell of weather demonstrates perfectly that having lighter evenings means bugger all if the weather is dreadful. Proponents of year-round BST take note!

Off to Fuerteventura next week, cannot wait to escape the gloom.

  2.  78/79  The rest of us will put our clocks forward on the 31st 😂

I really hope we don't end up with another "year without a spring" like we endured last year. It's even more of a depressing thought considering how grim winter has been. At least we had an outstanding first month of summer on the back of it last year.

  3. No no no no no.

The naming system for storms is an absolute shambles and completely unnecessary as it is.

Most normal summers you only get two or three hot spells that may warrant it. Are we really going to have an A-Z naming system for something that can only occur in a 3-4 month window? At least with storms they can occur year-round and are far more frequent in winter than genuine heatwaves are in summer.

Another shocking stat, Heathrow currently on around 746mm of rain this year which means it's the 4th wettest since I was born! Only 2000 (820mm), 2002 (786mm) and 2014 (864mm) have been wetter! May even overtake 2002 yet still lol. What a wet and dull year!

That masks a couple of extremely dry months too. Feb and June barely saw a drop.

Just another example that regular periods of rainfall are a thing of the past in our changed climate. Either drought or deluge.

  5. Looking likely we'll be on for our third consecutive 100mm+ month around these parts. I am not someone who suffers from SAD, but the last couple of months have been seriously trying. Utterly miserable run-up to Christmas and any hope of a brief cold and frosty spell looks to have been extinguished. Really regretting not booking a winter holiday this year.

  6. Some of the comments on the TORRO Facebook page are ridiculous. Suggesting it's a low end EF4!!! If it was EF4 the houses wouldn't even be there.

I've seen the collapsed wall. I think EF2 is more sensible. But 160mph winds? No.

Certainly not EF3 level if that was amongst the worst damage. For comparison, just Google "EF3 damage", simply no comparison.

I did think it was a little much but not sure how these things work, maybe to do with construction?  I believe the ESSL gave it an IS2/EF2.

This is the worst damage ive seen, will have a look at twitter for anything else.

That's more like what I would expect. Perhaps some of the surveying of the rural damage has uncovered some debarking of trees? Shame that TORRO has released precious little evidence to back up the preliminary report.

  9. Absolutely no way was that tornado worse than the Birmingham one! Either that or TORRO are yet to release proof of it.

I've seen damage from EF-3 tornadoes close up and they do a damn sight more damage than rip off a few tiles. For comparison, this was an aerial shot of the Birmingham tornado which ripped roofs clean off and turned over cars:

And the aerial footage of the Jersey one:

The BBC's Dan Johnson surveys the damage after Storm Ciarán struck St Clement.

The damage in the footage doesn't correspond to TORRO's own scale for a T6:

"Moderately devastating"? Come off it. Happy to change my mind if someone can provide images proving me wrong but so far this just seems like TORRO overhyping things.
