  5. Are the Met Office considering releasing Doppler data? Looks like it!

    "A multi-million pound state–of-the-art upgrade of the UK’s rainfall radar network has been completed, and for the first time the size and shape of raindrops and snowflakes can now be captured together with wind speed data."

      I wonder whether it'll be an option here on Netweather?  I'd consider paying a small extra amount per year to access it should it become available and the site's owners decide to offer it.

      I always have a clear-out this time of year, all the clutter and nonsense that's built up (physically and emotionally) I simply drop and start again for another year ahead. This year i'm aiming to quit the social-drinking in favor of spending more time away in Scotland, Ireland, Wales.

      Nick L

      But it *will* go pop at some point. There's not a question of "will it?" it's "when?". It can't just keep increasing exponentially forever.

    3. Mokidugway

      Mokidugway

      Indeed it will same happened with tulip bulbs ,ask Ed he'll remember :whistling:

    4. Relativistic

      Relativistic

      Nick L, not all exponential trends cease to be exponential by "popping". A sigmoid function is a good example of this: it's defined by

      S(x) := 1/[1+exp(-x)].

      For x << -1, S(x) is approximately equal to exp(|x|). But as x increases it starts to look less like an exponential increase, and in the limit x >> 1, S(x) tends to 1 (smoothing off to a steady state).

      The sigmoid function would probably make a very good fit to many of the "s-curves" seen in the article I posted. It's possible that Bitcoin is currently in a sigmoid "x << -1" stage of development.

      I'm not saying Bitcoin won't pop (it may well do), but I wouldn't dismiss it as a bubble simply because things can't "increase exponentially forever". You're not wrong, but there exists more than one way for such trends to be corrected.

  20. Posted 3 Christmas cards first class last Saturday, only up to the Midlands. Only one has arrived. Great service.

    1. Katrine Basso

      Katrine Basso

      I have seen this amount of snow in South Ockendon since 2012.  There has been as much as snow other places.  South Ockendon in Thurrock is not forecasted properly in local weather forecasts as it is not covered in East Anglia weather forecasts or the London weather forecasts. Sometimes South Ockendon gets the same weather as in London an other times the same weather as Southend.  I would like to have my own weather station where I can get forecast weather in my area.:D
