There was a thick dew on the car windscreen at 7.30am. Like the tears of summer angels.

We were literally 5 miles from the boundary of the clear skies and cloud yesterday in Buckinghamshire. Frustrating.

  4. Minima below -20C looking likely in Scotland tonight. Impressive.

38 hours of falling snow here here now Nick. I'm right on the snowline and have slush. Totally agree!

Writing the Network Rail forecasts for Scotland the last couple of nights were an absolute pig. Tonight I get the joy of the roads forecasts instead 😒

Tell NR to get their independent snow ploughs ready for the Highland Mainline...!

  7. Very disappointing snow event after what could have been. Almost all melted now in Aylesbury. Still better than anything since the BFTE.

  8. Never looked forward to spring as much as this year. Done with winter!

  9. I do love a clearing cold front. Drizzly rubbish this morning, cold and crisp tonight!

  10. Impressively low temperatures in Scotland tonight. -20C perhaps?

      Minus 10 isotherm yes...

  11. If you live alone, or know someone who lives alone, you can form a support bubble and mix households with someone else - not just on Christmas Day. There are ways to avoid being forced to spend the festive period alone.

Sadly as I live in the borough of Thurrock in Essex, we have been put in Tier 4 along with the borough of Southend and most of the county of Essex.  No one in tier 4 is allowed to form a Christmas bubble and those who are in tiers 1, 2 and 3 will only be able to meet up on Christmas day.

    2. Nick L

I'm referring to support bubbles, not the Christmas bubbles. These were in place many months before the Christmas bubble idea:

I live in a Tier 4 area, my Mum (who lives alone) lives in a Tier 3 area. I am her support bubble and am able to travel out of Tier 4 to see her over Christmas:

Quite the swing after overnight mins of  ~18c in some spots last night.

  16. It seems we used up all the interesting weather in the first few days of October. Absolute borefest of a month.

Tbh only the 1st and 6th were 'interesting' here with convective skies. That wet weekend was as boring as now, and not even usable.

    4. Nick L

      Nick L

Was certainly interesting here as we had some flooding, 100mm in a few days is not bad going for this part of the world. But otherwise, nada. We're not even going to muster up a frost this month.

  17. 100mm for October already here

    1. Eagle Eye

      Eagle Eye

      about 3mm here

      Daniel*

93mm here this is very extreme for lowland ‘east’ London ~20% of average annual rainfall (Greenwich) which is a stone’s throw from me. Just stopped raining after 22 hours non stop!

  18. BOING BOING! Can't wait to return to our regular slot last on Match of the Day next season

yep plenty of 0-0 bore draws on the cards then

  19. 5 thunder days so far this year, could be 6 tomorrow. Going to comfortably be the most thundery year I've ever known (in the UK).

It looks like the weather patterns get stuck in recent years. We get months of excessive rain, then months of drought and then thunderstorm after thunderstorm. But there is one constant feature, the above average temperatures month after month.

I had 3 days of thunder overhead here plus a night of watching a thunderstorm that was 20km away and I could see the top of the cb lightning almost constantly! Just rain today here but maybe another chance for thunder tomorrow.

Not a drop of rain here at all yet. I think I can see the anvil from the ex-Cherbourg storm.

Hopefully tonight or tomorrow night is when I can see some distant lightning. ?

Same goes for snow, i think. I certainly don't hope we get a sudden cold snap and a few inches of snow.

Imagine here in Madrid, shut indoors in an interior studio flat since 13th March, no sunlight, no daylight, 20c days. Terrible the conditions here we need Vitamin D and natural light to build defences.

How are you coping with it?  Sounds very harsh.  How are you managing to get out for food etc.?

  24. Some cheap flights to be had at the moment...

  25. After completing the North Coast 500 around NW Scotland last week, I would thoroughly recommend it. So beautiful up there.

It was, but not too bad. The only disappointment was that the Bealach na Ba/road to Applecross was closed because of snow. We went up to Aviemore and the Cairngorm ski centre on the final day, plenty up there! Being winter meant that many places on the route were closed, but the big plus is that there were hardly any people about - bliss.

My favourite part of the world Nick, Can get very busy with convoys of campervans for miles during late spring so you picked a good time to go. If you ever get time to visit Harris do it as it's about as wild as you can get..
