Hot in the wall to wall sunshine here. But cool in the shade and zero tonight. That's cool.

I would almost say it's cold, but I won't because I definitely have no life.

Well compared to what we'll see in 7 days time, the weather today is far more preferable. Actually had some hope of the weekend being nice (20 or so) ECM 12z is a nightmare and would produce mid-high 20s widely if it verifies. Thats too much.

  5. Really cool and fresh few days coming up!

  6. Ridiculous rainfall totals in the offing for Sunday/Monday. 100mm possible in the SE if some output is to be believed.

  7. Start of Tour 1 coming into view on the GFS, chase season is almost here! :D

The GFS suggests that it might finally kick off Tue/Wed/Thur next week. Let's hope that's just the start.

Yeah a few days of fun before it quietens down again by the looks of things :( And I'll still be out there until mid-June Moki so I'm hoping it will be active too!

All I've done these last 2 days is sneeze. My head's banging and my already pathetic tolerance for heat is sorely under strain. I don't know how you southerners do it. I would have topped myself long ago.

When I was out, I was surprised how I tolerated the heat as it usually makes my joints swell and ache a lot.  It is a lot cooler indoors, I have got my cardigan and dressing gown.  I might have to out again to get myself warm.

  9. Ava, Oklahoma started the day at 0c. It was 38c by afternoon. What a climate.

Echoes the point I made in the spring thread yesterday, Nick. we all feel the temps differently. I'm in t shirts without a coat at 12c. Some people can wear winter coats in 28c heat. If she still feels cold in this, then she's a very blessed individual.

    3. MP-R

      MP-R

I don't think I've ever seen anyone in a full winter coat in 28C heat, not even when I lived in Madrid where they whip them out at 20C. There really must be some oddities around!

The weather has already been going crazy almost since a Hurricane almost struck Ireland last year, so now I'm just expecting anything, but wont be disappointed if we don't get snow as The Midlands has already been spoiled a hell of a lot this winter/spring :).

I'm not one for pints, but warm spring weather would be appreciated as I'm waiting to sow seeds, fertilise herbs in containers, and generally get going with greenhouse work.

Thinking about thermal lag, I would suggest these conditions right at end of Feb, less remarkable than 28 Nov 2010 perhaps?

    3. MP-R

      MP-R

Always a balancing act between thermal lag and daylight length I feel (and of course many other factors). The synoptics you would of course expect more in late Feb than late Nov, but the depth of cold had to be that bit colder to give similar temperature values in late Feb as late Nov.

    4. Thundery wintry showers

      Thundery wintry showers

Very much so- my previous record for snow depth where I've lived has been 12cm (recorded on several occasions) and this event, with 17cm, beat it- and in Exeter of all places!  Also had a midday temperature of -4C on 1st March which is hard to achieve here even in the middle of winter.  My former locations had some memorable weather too, including 18cm at Norwich and thundersnow in South Tyneside.

I'd say this setup is more remarkable than any setup we got in 2010, but that the November/December 2010 spell will go down as more remarkable overall because of its combination of severity and duration.
