  1. The Met Office used to have a page detailing their definitions for things like light/heavy rain, light/heavy snow etc. etc. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Here you go Nick --> https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20101209182435/http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/corporate/library/factsheets/factsheet03.pdf

Is this what you're after? I've downloaded a copy, if you have any issues accessing it.

No worries. There are others in the series, listed at the end of that doc. Just change the number in the URL, i.e. 02.pdf for the Thunderstorm definition doc, etc.

  2. Fantastic 4 weeks in the states with some amazing supercells and several tornadoes, as well as a hell of a lot of snow in the mountains. Back to reality today, already bored of the drizzle zzzzz

  3. Average high in Denver is 24c at this time of year. Today, they had a covering of snow with a max of 2c. I'll be there on Monday for storm chasing and it'll be back in the 20s...

Denver has a crazy climate even by American standards. Snow has fallen in every month except July and August

It's been a chilly year so far out there. 11c and drizzle in Oklahoma and San Antonia at 'only' 18c were highlights on tour 1!

  4. Storm chasing season is almost upon us, Tour 1 begins later this week! Less than 4 weeks until I fly out myself...

Counting down the shifts...8 more to go then nearly 5 weeks off work!

  5. The irony and hypocrisy of flying 5000 miles in first class to a climate change rally is off the scale. Emma Thompson what were you thinking...?

For me to be a hypocrite, I would have to be at a protest telling people to stop flying. Think before you type, good grief. I am criticising her for joining the preachers telling us to stop flying, but flying first class to get there. I am not criticising anyone for flying, but for flying and then telling us all to stop flying.

And you never go abroad anywhere, right? 😂

      Lauren

Flying first class makes no difference to the carbon footprint tbf. But I think rather than preaching, the best course of action is to promote the idea of doing the best you can rather than being militant about it.

made this point on the climate thread    just another virtue signalling person  who is more interest in how they look then what happens to the planet.  At least the penny is starting to drop with people.

  6. I regret asking to work the Easter weekend so I could get some leave back. In typical fashion, the weather is crap when I'm off next week.

Yes, I have the joy of Friday, Saturday, Sunday night shifts aswell. I knew as soon as I was rota'd on for them it'd be glorious weather.

I'm on nights Sunday and Monday. However, I do have a window of opportunity. I finish at 6pm on Saturday, and then onto nights on Sunday, I may be able to sneak some beer garden in.

Why on Earth did they change it? The new site is abysmal compared to the old.

      Nick L

Just like every other website "upgrade" really. Why so many companies feel the need to change a perfectly functioning website to one that is garbage I'll never know.

A few things have already been fixed on the new layout - some progress being made. I send my data to WU but only use it to view stations that are under some extreme weather. It's great having my own site for for more detailed stuff.

  8. Windy across much of Europe this week, Jurgen Klopp must be worried

  9. I don't think my Scotland road trip in a couple of weeks is going to include many snowy scenes...

    2. Nick L

      Nick L

Nah that would have been a bonus. Last year would have been too much as driving would be a nightmare. As long as it's not drizzly murky crap I'll be happy.

  10. What a stunner of a day, truly springlike. Got me in the mood for storm chase season...speaking of which, 100 days to go!

  11. 6cm at 5am and still coming down nicely. Really good snow event, powdery snow too.

  12. 4c and rain? Vile evening. 4 months until storm chasing...

  13. Snow, yay! This has now officially beaten 13/14!

well the october fog index suggested a winter of inane drivel, so i'm not surprised

  16. Storm Deirdre brought "widespread freezing rain" for the Midlands and Wales northwards, so say the Met Office. Must have missed that.

Inland across NE England seen some bad conditions due to the freezing rain.

But was hit and miss for most

    4. Nick L

      Nick L

Yep, it was primarily high ground in N England and Scotland. There was absolutely nothing in Midlands or Wales. It's almost as if they're trying to justify the nonsense warnings they issued.

  17. Looking very probable to be a snowless first half of winter here. Really poor.

      Froze were the Days

Agree Nick re Frosts, here in the south east it's been dreadful this late Autumn/Winter - 2 slight ground frosts this December and not 1 air frost!!! coldest minima here since November recorded 0.7c in the early hours but no white stuff on the lawn as temps had risen by morning.

  22. Absolute Radio earlier claimed that London was going to see freezing rain until 10pm. Should alarmist nonsense should be criminalised, it's dangerous!

I will say this - when I brought my crumby little converted studio flat, I still had greedy management of the actual block. 80 quid  bill on my door mat before i had even gotten the keys for gardening, 5k bill because a builder had gone by and noticed where the windows needed more support, 600 for an entrance phone at the front door and before I sold another 1k because a brick wall was 'dangerous' not including a wall for where the bins were, and I was paying 40 quid maintenance on top and 10 pound that everyone on the town had to pay to the duke of cavendish. My poor dad footed the bill for some but I had to get a 5k loan.
