  1. A bit of snow might make me like this coming weather slightly better, otherwise spring weather would be good. 3C and grey doesn't really fill me with joy.

  2. Events in areas like Wales yesterday and southern England today show you don't need much colder uppers in March to get snow than in winter.

Too mild end of the week for snow for us in the midlands ;)

  3. Today I saw an ambulance car with the number plate 'BI6 HAA' thought it was a bit ironic.. lol

same here sometimes, my sense of humor liked it

  4. why the heck is radio 1 saying wintry weather is forecast to move north tonight?

    1. Snowman.

      Snowman.

Showers are pushing into Scotland. Honestly I looked at there forecast for Monday and said little accumulations. :S

Lol I agree about some of the 'music' they play..

they were implying the Channel Islands weather would move north overnight. The weather's going in the other direction!

  5. Well, another crap easterly for snow for me. Decent showers cross even right over Wales and everywhere else but no more than a few flurries could reach me without dieing before they crossed London! Snow to the south and a dry gap over me. No sun either again.

    1. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

yeah I thought it was something to do with that, a bit frustrating but bound to happen to me. The only decent snowy spell of winter here happened the week I had to be out the country!

    2. Bottesford

      Bottesford

It feels like a proper cold spell though even if snow volume isn't that high.

Despite that it feels so much better than anything winter provided as its containing proper active weather!

    3. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

certainly feels properly cold that's for sure! very windy too, though just grey all day here.

  6. What's this, clear skies and a frost?! :o

    1. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

it must have done! unfortunately it couldn't stay out all night and got back about 2am. Still managed the coldest night of the year but that wasn't hard lol.

    2. March Blizzard

      March Blizzard

Yeah, it'll be hungover in bed all day too now...

Seems like it is.. I hope it can get out of bed and clear off for work tomorrow.

  7. Am I even going to see any sunshine/clear sky this weekend now? worst spell of weather ever.

    1. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

Yep the north has been the place to be recently, The south not so.

    2. Summer Sun

      Summer Sun

Lovely here in Darlington crystal clear blue sky had a frost overnight but the sun is getting to work now

    3. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

yep can see that nice clear gap over central areas of the UK on satellite images.. oh the day that happens over the SW.. seems like it's suddenly become the dullest part of the UK recently lol, might get a better chance Monday onwards, but the risk of decent frosts has diminished then.

  8. Lol the EU want a bankers bonus cap which most countries support.. but quelle surprise 'Britain' (i.e mostly just the t***s in government and bankers) oppose it!

    1. Bishop Brennan

      Bishop Brennan

I had a rant about this on the politics thread this morning. It's like the global banking crisis never happened!

    2. March Blizzard

      March Blizzard

I'd gladly accept a bonus cap of my annual wages! At the minute the only bonus i get is about £100 at christmas.

  9. No joke.. I had a lower min from this set up on this day: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/archive/ra/2008/Rrea00120080127.gif than I've recorded so far this year! :O

    1. Eugene

      Eugene

lol yeah and roasty by day, there is more to the feel of the weather than just the 2M temp, bet dewpoints were nowhere near as cold as today :)

    2. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

Yep -2.9C that morning but 11.3C max that day. It just shows how pathetic this winter's been for low minima in my back yard at home (east Devon) if a Bartlett set up gave a lower min than this year so far! of course this winter hasn't been lacking low maxima, nearly always under grey sky.

  10. Looks confirmed that Both Jan and Feb will have the highest absolute min I've recorded for any other winter month or March (despite forecasts otherwise the last 2 nights..) what a rubbish winter.

  11. Would be better to be at home in Devon for this easterly, more cloud breaks and lower temps forecast than here.

  12. Flippin eck, a clear evening at home in East Devon with the temp dropping quick under clear skies?? how long can it last I wonder.

  13. Why do some get so worked up about the weather these days?

    1. gottolovethisweather

      gottolovethisweather

My weather station is getting worked up about things. It has a rapidly falling Barometer trend and is suggesting a warming up with precipiation within the next 12 to 24 hours and windy. Have I moved from CSE England overnight? There is no change imminent, is there?

  14. One of my geography lecturers seems to have the Gulf Stream confused with the Jet Stream

    1. I remember Atlantic 252
    2. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

He's said a few times the reason for the recent colder/snowier winters was the Gulf Stream being further south than normal or 'not reaching as far north as normal'..

    3. summer blizzard

      summer blizzard

I especially hate the layman when they say our weather comes from the GOM.. arghh, it comes from Canada most of the time.

  15. What is it with every decent frost forecast for east Devon downgrading this winter.. My nearest town's forecast has just gone from -2C (meaning -3C - -4C at my house) early Saturday to +4C at 6am Saturday.. January already had the highest absolute low of any winter month or March since my records began in 2007.. it will have to change soon to stop this being a very poor winter there.

      Evening thunder

(I'm in Surrey at the mo but going home this weekend and my weather station's in east Devon)

  16. Anyone else noticed the huge swell heading for Scotland? http://magicseaweed.com/UK-Ireland-Surf-Chart/1/

  17. Back in the UK just in time for the mild weather lol

      Polar Maritime

At least your back to watch the next cold spell materialise !

    2. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

That's true hopefully! don't mind mild spells like this with active weather and some clear breezy days like today too.

    3. Polar Maritime

      Polar Maritime

Agree, every winter has them and needs them.

  18. Gutted to be missing nearly all of what is likely to be the best spell this winter :( wast expecting what the models agree on next week from what I had read about the strat and members on here etc

    1. Thundery wintry showers

      Thundery wintry showers

I imagine that you'd have been similarly frustrated if you'd been at your old home near Exeter- Exeter Airport had a bit of wet snow followed by rain on one day and that's it! Egham may have been a different story though...

  19. Just at airport about to leave the country and cross-model agreement on a mild breakdown on the day I return..

  20. That's 2 hours now with the radar showing me under a broad band of light snow, sometimes 0.5-1mm/hr rainfall equivalent, with nothing actually falling!

    1. Paul

      Paul

Snow can play with the radar sometimes. Occasionally it'll evaporate before reaching ground, but often the wind can blow it elsewhere between being detected and the ground.

    2. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

Ah ok thanks both those thoughts did cross my mind, we have a light easterly at the surface here so could be blowing it back west again. Rather frustrating

      though.

    3. Floatylight

      Floatylight

i had that the other day with very low dew point, was -6c

  21. Nooo 36 hours to go and the runs are trying to remove any chance I had of even seeing something decent before I leave the country on Saturday!! not bloody amused!!! :(

    1. MP-R

      MP-R

You're on the wrong side of the country mate! :p

    2. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

Yep always am! lol. Though thankfully the charts are at least showing a bit for me this morning

  22. Of course the models would be upgrading the snow/cold this weekend/next week, the one week of winter I have to be out the country!

    1. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

In a way I'd rather be travelling to York than missing it all!

    2. Bottesford

      Bottesford

Well yes true... just hope I can get home on Sat that's my thinking!

    3. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

That's a good point, and if the 06z is anything to go buy the uni may find it 'interesting' getting a coach to Gatwick Airport at 3am Saturday! and then where we're going in South Spain is shown very heavy rain and strong winds on Saturday on the 06z gfs.. lol

    4. Show next comments  9 more
  23. Just know the UKMO will be right as I'll be in Spain then :((

  24. Even looks like turning to rain in Surrey on Monday afternoon now :(

    1. stainesbloke

      stainesbloke

Wouldn't get too upset, it's very uncertain and any rain would quickly turn back to snow as warm sector passes :)

    2. Aaron

      Aaron

Looks good for this urban lowlander in Leeds.

    3. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

yeah if lucky I'll still get some there, but latest GFS run and recent MetO forecasts show rain for Egham Monday afternoon - still might get something through the week if I'm lucky..

  25. some of these models e.g the ECM look good to me, cold and possibly snowy for several days before changing before I go abroad so I don't miss much snow

    1. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

not that they are likely to be correct of course
