  1. Why do people think the tide effects how high the river gets here when we're 26m above sea level?

      The river can't empty into the sea as quickly when the tide is higher - that effect backs up the river.

      Yeah my mum says that too but I don't see it, there's weirs, rapid-like sections etc downstream, and 26m of lower ground for several miles for the water to flow over/flood before it backs up here..
