  1. Are these temperatures so horrific to some due to a physiological reason that it's December or does it really feel that bad if you ignore the month?

Many parts of the US for example that get winter weather which makes people jealous every year can also get into the 20's in the winter

  2. Not sure what's worse, our weather or the moaning about it...

      i wasn't moaning.

It's a weather thread after all

as they say on online gaming.

Yeah it's actually a pleasant evening out! June was wretched but it really hasn't been that bad in the last week or so.

I'm moaning because it's peering down on a mid summer weekend day yet again. If it was dry sunny and warm I wouldn't be....simples

  3. 'Bitterly cold' is becoming a very overused term...

Haha indeed, according to our local forecast a slightly below average 6-7C is bitterly cold..

I created a thread about precisely this kind of things a while back....I have heard the terms bitterly cold, very raw and icy wind used several times this winter, but not once with an ambient temp forecast to be a sitting at less that 5c. It's just getting silly now, media forecasters have completely lost all sense of perspective regarding temps. It's not just with regard to cold too, I can remember back in Nov when we had minima around 14c, (OK very mild for the time of year) a BBC forecaster described it as a 'very uncomfortable night for sleeping'...utter drivel.

  4. Reached 14.7C with sunny intervals earlier.. decent spring day (or is it still Autumn?)

  5. I don't understand why you would by a nice river side house, with attendant land (outside of the garden) which the previous owners have spent decades making beautiful with willow trees etc to create a little riverside woodland, and then go and cut the whole lot down?! If you want somewhere without trees, buy somewhere without trees! don't go and wreck somewhere nice. Sadly there's some idiots living around here..

  6. Blimey two days with decent amounts of sun forecast. I'm excited.

Some places could do with a couple of months worth!  Nice to see nonetheless before more crap tomorrow. Wouldn't be so bad if it hadn't been so miserable for what seems half the year.

  7. On Wednesday night the minimum, yes minimum temperature for Exeter is forecast to be 14C.. That's safely above the average July minimum.

It's got to be one of the highest December night temperatures ever recorded at Exeter! :D

    2. Evening thunder

      Evening thunder

Yes I imagine it must be up there with the highest

  8. Apart from tomorrow night at 9C, Exeter isn't forecast to go below 10C for the next week..

    1. William Grimsley

      William Grimsley

Well, about time we break some records after the most boring year on record...

  9. I was also a tad sceptical but seems the Met Office model was right having some places struggling to make double figures due to fog/low cloud

  10. Intriguing differences between GFS and Met Office max temp predictions for Sun-Tue, GFS goes for mid-high teens why the Met has temps struggling to break double figures for some places

Only 13/14C in the south east on Sunday with cloudy conditions forecast for the foreseeable future according to the BBC. It could be the in house models being overly pessimistic on cloud cover though as is quite often the case at times.

      Evening thunder

Yes I was thinking cloud cover and possibly lingering fog/low cloud may explain the difference, see my post showing Met/GFS temp predictions:

I know, I think i'd rather watch paint dry right now....typical that this high comes along in autumn and not summer when it would have been very welcome for all the country and not just south east

  12. The high had got pretty hazy by yesterday, with reduced visibility, weak sun, and a 'dirty' sky, so we could do with a change of airmass and weather type to refresh things

  13. Keep seeing this, it's 13:42 yet the regional text forecast was apparently updated at 17:00 today

  14. Weather has to be one of the most frustrating interests.. sometimes think unless something interesting happens here soon I may as well give up my interest in it..

Your cloud came here eventually, autumn colours looked nice in the sun before that though

  24. In this kind of unsettled weather we still get the sunshine (at least where I was in Devon), but with great visibility so the countryside looks more beautiful than in a hazier high pressure. There's the added bonus of some interesting weather thrown in too.
