  1. May it be known and agreed that, despite occasional claims to the contrary, the membership of Netweather is not of one unified mind when it comes to preferences, that no preference is 'better' than any other, and that facts, irrespective of what weather type they relate to do not bend to what we'd like, but actually don't care what we think at all?

Forums not changed since I joined, if you don't know anything , then you aren't made welcome. I just podded on, kept my head down and posted away from the nerdy stuff, hoping to at least learn something. Some people are just allowed to do and say as they please.

      All forums are like this.

      *waits*

  2. Why do I get the feeling that summer brings out those who want to incessantly prove how "hard" they are?  All we seem to get is people ostentatiously sneering at those of us who feel unwell when the temperature is above 30C AND the humidity is above 70%.

I for one dislike the Heat and Humidity,i'm happy with the temps at around 18-24c. If we get heat and humidity then i pray for a good storm.

I am the same chris. Although I can start feeling ill before it hits 30c!

It's not just at summer you get this, i might add. When I said I'd just had a thunderstorm someone just laughed.

I'm following a link to the Weatherquest station at UEA (around 4 miles from here as the crow flies) given to me by Dan Holley (Staplehurst):

It was dreadfully humid here, Weather-history.  On the evening it finally cooled down outside and rained, we opened every window once the rain stopped in order to get fresh air in, but it was so late in the evening that we could only have them open for a hour or so.  It was 30C indoors, with 70+% humidity outside - awful conditions!  We had around a fortnight where it got well above 30C most days.

  5. Awful news from the States.  It seems that the shooting happened just up the road from an undergraduate friend and her husband - fortunately, they were both at work.

But in some ways not surprising this has happened again in the USA.

      Very sad overall.

  6. Apologies to moderators - I was annoyed at the number of heat ramping posts in th Models thread and wanted to combine genuine model discussion with an alternate perspective.

I haven't been well either, ended up with a migraine yesterday..as well as my worries with my family, it does get to the point that I feel I am being trolled by saying I don't like heat.  I am very thankful for the rain, but the house is still 25c. So i expect it will be in the low 20's by the time we get the heat again.

Sorry to hear that you have family worries, Dami.  Our bungalow has cooled significantly, but it still seems to be releasing stored heat into the interior so is slightly warmer than you'd normally expect given how cool it is outside.

both my hubby and little one suffer with heat, then she got a slight fever but she's better now. (which worried me) Our house was over 30c, the coolest room was our bedroom but the most it got down to was 26c. It's still 24c up there even now.

Glad to hear btw that you are feeling better.  :)

  7. 33C down to 18C in 4 hours!

  8. Just changed my location details.  I haven't moved, but I wouldn't know that from my surroundings.  I've seriously seen more green vegetation in footage from Sothern California, at least since their drought eased the other year.

  9. There's a great deal of groupthink here at present regarding the heatwave.  I'm getting annoyed by frequent comments in the model thread stating that we're all going to be pleased by the forecast increase in temperatures and continued drought.  I don't know whether the posters are blissfully unaware that not everyone thinks the same way they do or whether there's a degree of coercion being applied to make sure all members hold the 'approved' opinion.  Getting a touch Orwellian, methinks, and my "Do Different" Norfolk philosophy makes me even more determined to point out that some of us want some rain.  I'm not asking for August to be a washout, so don't guilt-trip me with references to upset kids on holiday; all I want is some rain.  Overnight will be fine.

  10. 40C by late next week - nightmarish stuff.  I cannot comprehend how anyone can want this.

And the models keep flipping from one thing to the next-I really hope it does rain on Friday just to see BBC Weather and the models end up with egg on their face becuase they were right the first time!

It is actually quite scary stuff. The UK simply shouldn't experience such temperatures.

  11. interesting how hot weather turns some people into argumentative unpleasant t***s.

  14. I think large teapot is probably (at least as yet) unproven and unsupported.  I used to say that significant snow in lowland England was a thing of the past, yet I have 3-3.5 inches of snow outside and  it's hardly melting, despite the fact that it's nearly March.

  15. large teapot confirmed yet again - despite SSW, easterly won't verify.

  16.  Am I missing something in the Stratosphere thread or are the experts saying the two vortices are going to merge again?

  17. I see the SSW is suddenly disappearing.  large teapot is a reality, it's high time people accepted it.

  22. I have an admission to make:

Although we haven't had anything more in the way of snow than the last two years, other lowland areas of England have, so I'm abandoning the m o d e r n w i n t e r, though I do still think that AGW is reducing the frequency of such events.
