  1. *Stormforce~beka* Rich_Clements We've been asking for 16 years and the estate always said no, but out of the blue they agreed. Four of us did it, gaining just over 500m2 each. It's certainly kept us busy for the last 6 months and will continue to do so. Nearly finished my Bristol jaunt. Popped into a couple of pubs on the way back to the car, to watch the footie. Just waiting for the OH to finish to chauffeur me home. Beautiful weather now. Off tomorrow again, so back to digging.
  2. Just dropped the OH off at Bristol Free School. Going for a wander and bumped into Darren Jones MP at an ATM, who we knew is doing the opening speech. Had a quick chat. What a nice chap. Now on the Blaise Castle estate, with a fair bit of blue sky above.
  3. *Stormforce~beka* Aubrieta can look scraggy out of season, so check for any signs of growth and cut it back above that. It doesn't like sitting in the wet, so make sure the pot drains well. You normally see it spilling over garden walls. I'm trying to grow some from seed this year, to do just that.
  4. *Stormforce~beka* No, next door is about 200 years old. They're the bits of field that we bought (us and 3 neighbours), so the grass isn't bad considering. Only got change of use to gardens in November, so we're only just getting started. More rain this morning. Should clear soon though. Male sparrowhawk has been sat on the fence for ages... Terrible photo....
  5. Dorsetbred Said that to the OH earlier. Will work on it on my own patch and will get back to you. Anyway... Looks like I've got an unexpected trip to Bristol tomorrow. OH doesn't know how to get to her students' speaking event, so I've got to take her, go for a wander, find a pub to watch United v Liverpool and get driven home. A nice break from digging, at least.
  6. Drizzle has arrived, but we're dry wrapped up under the sail. Just finished my first Saturday job in 29 years. Only next door's grass, but it's a start
  7. Grass frost and clear blue skies above at first light. Plenty of cloud on the Western horizon, ready to roll in and do it's thing for the useful part of the day.
  8. *Stormforce~beka* Yep, full wets on, but finished before the latest shower arrived. Then the same on the other side. 35 done in total.
  9. Dorsetbred Looks like it's clearing out the back, so heading back out. The yews have been shipped already and arrive in half an hour apparently.
  10. Here's the rain again. 15 holes dug, 17 to go, but the radar suggests it's setting in for a while.
  11. jy Ah right. Nice one. Ta. These were £3.09ea for 20-30cm English Yew. Not going to complain at that price, compared to garden centres.
  12. @jy I had switched from the Hyundai to your Cobra, as the similar Cobra was 30 quid cheaper, but last minute, Robert Dyas reduced their price by £35, so went with the Hyundai. Plus it was in stock. It's 21", self propelled c/w a rear roller. Will hopefully be able to fire it up tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated.
  13. *Stormforce~beka* Great work on the buddleia though. And the daffs look good. Yep, back to rain and cloud now. Was hoping to take my new set of wheels for a spin this evening, but looks like the approaching rain will scupper it.
  14. Dorsetbred Just living in the moment. Don't like the look of the heavier stuff off NW France. Looks like more than the apps were forecasting this morning, for later on.
  15. Just ordered 36 small English Yew bare root plants, as we're getting a bit close to the end of planting season. All for what will hopefully be two low clipped square hedges.
  16. *Stormforce~beka* Don't worry, there'll be plenty of bee friendly flowers going in, in their place. That's part of what we're trying to do.
  17. Dorsetbred Just been out to check for you and I can confirm that the dandelions are blackening nicely... Thanks all.
