  1. We had a frost Friday night/Saturday morning, surprised you didn't. Anyhoo, looking forward to the rain. Off for a weeks fishing holiday tomorrow so the river looks like being freshened-up!
  2. If today is the last day it's certainly ended how it started. Rain all day here but the cloud should disperse enough for a ground frost later!
  3. Strange. During late August I kept reading on here that it lasted until 21st September.
  4. After all those starts has summer definitely finished now - or do I have to wait until midnight?
  5. Yeah! I've got one in my lounge. Perfect terminus for a single malt accompanied by scary film on TV.
  6. Much more popular than your "Summer 2012" thread, eh Gavin? And that season was infinite - according to some!
  7. Good idea, don't try and light boiler until that's sorted. Re: cold feet, more likely a circulatory issue with yourself than temperature related.
  8. If you've got a modern condensing boiler that's money for old rope. Nothing to "service" - just repair/replace when something (pressure switch or PCB) gives up.
  9. Noticeable how many yellow leaves were coming down in the strong NWerly yesterday afternoon. I was fishing in the canal and by the end it was covered in them - must be about a month earlier than recent years.
  10. Not unlike every spring when, apparently, all the prerequisites are in place for a sun and heat-fest summer. Shades of 76?
  11. Last year was excellent for sloes, a bumper crop. Still got some in the freezer (in case this year isn't so good) and two bottles of sloe gin in the cupboard, rare vintage!
  12. Boring. Clear skies, bright sunshine, fresher breeze today, thankfully.
  13. Besides the striking element of desperation? Nothing to add - she nailed it single-handed.
  14. There's desperate, then there's this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/aug/31/climate-change-heretics-media-easy-ride Hopefully she'll end up with an evening chat-show on Channel4.
  15. left trouser leg-poor article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/9500465/Bank-Holiday-downpours-put-2012-on-course-for-wettest-summer-ever.html#disqus_thread enjoyable comments.
  16. Apart from the hot spell at the end of july and some excess humidity & heat last weekend it's not been too bad at all. Certainly nowhere near as uncomfortable as some of the scarier predictions would have had us believe. The only negative was the very high level of rainfall that spoiled the fishing in June, but I'd trade that for scorching heat and clear skies anytime.
  17. Good of you to decide that on everyone's behalf - as usual!
  18. Swifts departed here a couple of weeks ago. We don't get many swallows for some reason, maybe they like separate environments?
  19. Who's this "we" you claim to opine for?
  20. Lucky(!) we already recorded one last week of July then. Couldn't we use the word "hot" in that instance - lots of people did?
  21. The end of the heat. I agree it feels more humid than at any time to date, but it's usually more intense and uncomfortable if we have to endure these conditions early-mid July. I'm hoping this weekend will be the last hurrah.
  22. Perhaps I'm fooling myself by thinking the end isn't too far away?
  23. Just about tolerable now that it's unlikely to last too long and the daylight's receding. Feels like we're on the "home-straight" and the worst is behind us.
  24. "25c at midnight not bad at all" What's the point of that - I thought you warmists only enjoyed heat when it was light enough to sit outside in it? Darkness being just too dangerous, or something.................................
  25. Another one of the disciples that we're forced to fund through the TV tax: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2186860/Rip-lawns-theyre-bad-gas-guzzlers-says-gardening-expert.html he'll maybe use those secateurs on his hair and stop looking like a daft old girl. "drier summers ahead" apparently.
