How far North will the band of snow get today? At 7am the northern edge was Kettering. At 9am it's now Leicester. Slow progress, but could hit the region this afternoon if it doesn't fizzle out.
Neighbour set off to work at 630. Struggled up road. Has now returned after getting stuck on a very slight incline. Waste of time attempting to go anywhere.
The calendar weather didn't show anything on his map. The trouble is they are reliant on computer models which have proved useless with showers. They need some human input which sadly is lacking.
Just re-reading the yellow warnings from earlier valid now and tomorrow... they are for 5 to possibly 15cm on each day. So conceivably met office are warning of 30 cm for weds/Thurs in the yellow area. I hadn't realised this earlier so we shouldn't be surprised at the continuous showers. Good times!
Is this better ....one quick big dollop of snow, or maybe like the ecm and have a more southerly low and an extra week of easterly winds and showers? Not sure which id pick, would love 40-50cm in one go, but do like the idea of prolonged cold.
Bit of a dry gap upcoming for Kirklees area. That stream of showers near Selby looks promising with some farms radar reflections indicating heavier bursts.
All signs of movement on roads and pavements have now disappeared under fresh snow. Ice covered in snow everywhere, this is going to lay for days and be treacherous. -5C here with what looks like quite a bit more snow to come.
I am less concerned now the wind direction has changed slightly. There is also evidence of showers developing in the empty area, see met office radar below....
