  1. Saw those elevated storms out to the east night...very impressive frequent lightning between the upper clouds. Wonder what's in story today.... a direct hit or many frustrating near misses? Action brewing to the south, but will probably be spent by the time it reaches here. Need something a little more localised and slow moving. Long day ahead.
  2. Indoor temperature front room - (it does get the sun in the late afternoon) now reaching 25.8c - it's 27c outside. Very hard to sleep last night but I did manage a few sporadic hours. The rise in humidity has made the last few days a bit uncomfortable but no doubt in a few months when we're getting cold rain lashed at us in 3-5c temps (never cold enough for snow) we'll be wishing this weather back again. There was a queue at the car wash (Auto & Manual) this afternoon, but eventually managed to clean mine of it's unwelcome Saharan depository.
  3. Very warm today 28c - off work for a few days so had a little bike ride through Mossley/Saddleworth areas and I certainly felt the heat. Good thing about the days getting shorter (already hinting at dusk here now) I'm not feeling the heat indoors so much, so sleeping won't be as tiresome if it was mid-summer. However humidity might increase later in the week, but should still be tolerable. A good start for the 'ber months.
  4. It's nice to have this last swansong of fine weather at the end of summer/start of autumn phase. However the shadows are fast encroaching now the sun is not getting to it's lofty high summer apex. Could rely on some late afternoon early evening sunshine to kiss the bottom of my garden but it's now rapidly receding by 5-6pm. Still... enough daylight to cut the grass and I'm sure the farmers will welcome the fine, sunny, warm and dry weather coming up this week. No getting away from it though.... summer was basically the month of June this year.
  5. Day of almost near perfection today though.... Nice breeze, long sunny spells with a few white puffballs in the sky. I can feel the sun a bit low down compared to this stage last month....more in your face than on your head. Despite a moderate temp of 20c it stills feels a lot warmer if your directly in the sun for to long. Summer looking in the rear view mirror now but we are getting the odd late reminder that it's not completely out of sight for this year.
  6. A spell of moderate rain past hour, appeared to intensify a little from the South West. Usually the rain shadow knocks it on the head but not today. Maybe I haven't been following the forecast but tomorrow's warning for rain as taken me by surprise. It could yet be another mid-summers day write off for being outdoors.
  7. Starting to feel the wafts of this 2 day mini-summery plume now...temps feeling quite warm after a fresh start. Will be even better tomorrow, and perhaps early doors Friday before the showery rain advances from the west. Dodgy looking weekend coming up, but maybe not a complete write-off. Anyway at least for 2 days those holidaying in the UK should feel better about their outdoor activities.
  8. Pretty decent start to the day, the lesser-spotted golden globe in the sky making up for lost time. Quite a cool at dawn but warming a little now. I thought with more a westerly wind the showers might be more prevailing here but so far so good.
  9. Decent day here today, missed the Cheshire Gap showers to far East. We need a WNW wind to push those type of showers further East. That said we had a brief heavy shower about 30 mins ago but that's been it really. Sun is out in full force now and maybe a few decent days ahead with dare I say it a little bit of summery warmth. Won't last... it never does.
  10. Escaped the worst of the conditions today, a spell of moderate morning rain quickly petered out. Going to get the dregs of the low pressure system as the weather closes in from the North for the next few hours, but it should clear away to leave a clearance of sorts into tomorrow. We've been very sun deprived of late, so I'm considering getting up at sunrise tomorrow 5:30am (unknown on a Sunday!) just to see what it feels and looks like.
  11. Pesky persistent shower has developed here, and looking at the radar it appears I'm on the southern edge of the main band of rain affecting the north and now it's looking to track southwards...and it's starting to fill in. A bit of no-man's land just to the south of Manchester were the centre of low is tracking before you get to the beefy showers further south and central England.
  12. ... even on a day were nothing much is going on we get a patch of persistent drizzle just to keep the ground wet. Sun is being very shy of late. Tomorrow looking more lively... campers will be tested down south with the strong winds.
  13. Not dry here, we've had a pesky narrow band of rain ribboning over the area since early this morning. It's easing off a bit now but I was hoping we'd have at least a dry spell before the rain gathers again this afternoon/early evening. It's all a bit drizzly.
  14. Well most of us have made it to the late afternoon before the main band of rain has moved in. Spits and spots of rain now but it will be wet, wet, wet in a few hours time. Another weekend were temperatures have been supressed and the rain has been ever foreboding. Next weekend not looking to great either.
  15. Yes considering there is low pressure parked up to our North West we've not done too bad today, just a few passing rogue showers earlier on, but lengthy sunny spells too. Breezy and not sunbathing weather for sure in the shade but still not the rain fest of last weekend. A few more showers early tomorrow and then maybe a few decent hours before the main band of rain heads in from the west.
  16. Sunny at the moment and a reminder of how warm it can feel at this time of year when it makes a lengthy appearance. Grey clouds about aswell so a bit of hide and seek going on up there.
  17. Don't think this weekend will be quite as bad as last, but that's not saying much because it was truly dreadful last weekend. Nothing remotely summery on the horizon. We'll probably have a 3 day plume at the end of August and that will be it.
  18. Yep got a decent morning/early afternoon to tend to some garden necessities but the rain has arrived now and the latest Met Office 10-day forecast looks pretty bleak. Not very summery for late July/early August. Mediterranean losing it's oppressive heat so I expect most people's holidays will be satisfied abroad than in the UK this year.
  19. Must be absolutely hammering it down in hilly areas of the Lakes, looking at the radar possibly flooding issues? Here's the rain has been persistent but more nuisance value, however it's due to veer southwards so there will be a sting in it's tail before it leaves the region. All in all a pretty vile day for peak July summer. Cricket's been ruined, and the golf is pretty flat too as Harman strolls to victory.
  20. Just alternating here been light drizzle to heavy sheet drizzle...and temporary periods of no rain at all. Is the famous GMcr rain shield 🛡 developing to allow some cricket at Old Trafford?....bet on this occasion it fills in just after a hat-trick and one wicket to get. There ain't a law called Sod for nothing.
  21. Missing the heaviest rain which is currently further North, but it's starting to fill in a bit here too. Rain was quiet heavy last night from what I could hear. All in all it's still looking poor for the cricket but maybe fingers crossed a bit testy for the Golf, can't be doing with an American cakewalking it. Although to be fair he's looked very good.
  22. Yep Sunday almost looking as bad as Saturday now, apps updating my area with longer spells of rain instead of showers... we'll have to wait and see but safe to say the next 48hrs will not be outdoor t-shirt & shorts weather. Poor for end of July
  23. Ohno bit of an upgrade for showers here tomorrow early afternoon at least going off met app... was hoping for a dry day similar to today, because I don't think we're going to get many more 'dry' days in the next week or so. Managed to get a little cycle ride in before the weather turns.
  24. Best thunderstorm and heaviest spell of rain for the past few months here with hail thrown into the mix. I can see why.... its a direct East to West track down the M62 and didn't have to travel up from the south west and split into various routes. Still rumbling away.
  25. I don't want the ridiculous scorching heat what they are having in southern Europe at present, but equally I'd rather not experience autumnal conditions in high summer either. If we could just get an occasional waft/glancing blow of summery weather every few days that would suit me, instead of being a trough magnet. I had no ideer what you were suggesting until i put my glasses on.
