  1. How can precipitation appear so inconspicuous on the radar and yet be the type that soaks you through if your out in it for any length of time...aka heavy persistent drizzle. Oldham's hilly dark industrial landscape acting like a magnet for the overwhelming dampness. Colder end of week into next. Dry & Frosty would suit me fine.
  2. The eye currently travelling through southern Scotland at the moment. Recording 2023-11-13 124932.mp4 Winds are picking up here, but thankfully the rain has stayed very much to the North West. A few rogue showers cropping up on it's southern flank though so might get the dreaded combo Wind+Rain soon. Edit: I see the foundations of the 'Garden Path' have been laid down in readiness for the annual 'winter chase' some models already encouraging a few down the path for the last week in November. I'll wait at the back door for now.
  3. Nothing too alarming here at the moment but it looks a bit nasty further north and west...esp Isle of Man and Fylde Coast. I expect it will a bit blowy into afternoon here as the low squeezes over the Pennine Hills but again North Pennines look to be a prime spot for having your hair put out of place. David Cameron WTF!?
  4. Irish Sea generator in powerhouse mode this morning and most of the day it seems. Showers just growing and dumping thier load on west facing hills. We'd get over a foot of snow in these setups if the winter marginals were favourable. Have to go back 11/12 years when it was like that here.
  5. Not too bad today, especially early doors, but shower clouds are ever encroaching from the west. Got a little bit of lurgititas (lurgy) but managed to stamp on it pretty quickly....usual symptons sand paper at back of throat, head cold etc.. was a bit feverish this morning but thankfully it feels on the way out..so should be able to turn up at work tomorrow. I'm hoping all this unsettled Atlantic dominated weather runs out of puff as we go into latter stages of November and into December. It would be nice to have a sprinkling of the white stuff to wake up to 50 days from now.
  6. Well we do joke about the media blowing everything up when anything affects the south more than the North but all joking aside the very southern coastal strip where most of us have probably holidayed at some point looks to be taking a nasty right uppercut from Storm Ciaran... hope they stay safe. Meanwhile here I'm sure we'll get another drenching from its leading front... we're in a bit of a rainy spell at the moment
  7. More of a rain wedge now as precipitation picks up again on either side. Strange it seems to want to close in from all sides but just can't manage it. However we haven't got a 'wind shadow' here, quite gusty winds picking up.
  8. Frequent conveyor belt of showers from the North West would produce a wetter day here. Very sheltered in the rain shadow. Completely different story on the eastern side of the Pennines. Chesterfield in particular looks to have suffered with it.
  9. Rain shadow starting to be breached in the face of this relentless moisture laden onslaught. Moderate rain here, probably biblical proportions further east. Lots more to come. Happy to not be working outdoors!
  10. Just managing to cling on the eastern fringes of the rain shadow in GM but a few heavy drops are making it over the Pens and Peaks. Occasionally the shadow fills in a bit but it's mostly doing it's job. Completely different story 5 miles to my east.
  11. Feels clammy too...thought the showers were going to die off by the time they got here on the radar but there appears to be an bit more oomph and new spawning just to the south. Closing in on the Gtr Mcr area.
  12. Amber now from the met UK weather warnings WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Met Office UK weather warnings for rain, snow, wind, fog and ice. Choose your location to keep up to date with local weather warnings. My locality is pretty sheltered from the Pennines and Peaks so I expect a rain shield/dome to develop here that will keep the worst of rain away (finger crossed!)....a short trip up the top of the Pennines and Noah's Ark will be rolling in from the distance.
  13. Warnings have been removed from our area. I'm worried now. In all seriousness an upgraded RED warning for that sticky out bit in North East Scotland aka Aberdeen area. They will bear the brunt of what falls from the heavens in the next few days. New warning for slightly different geographical area - UK weather warnings WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Met Office UK weather warnings for rain, snow, wind, fog and ice. Choose your location to keep up to date with local weather warnings.
  14. That Countryfile forecast for the week ahead was a bit of a shocker from midweek, with lots of rain feeding in from lows coming up from the south west. I'm hoping the south east GMcr North shield/dome whatever keeps most of the rain on the eastern side of the pens like it does for snow. They suggested it will feel milder, but I've yet to experience moisture laden easterly winds as feeling 'mild'
  15. Very wet morning and early afternoon, got a little scare with the latest radar thought there was another pulsating band of rain edging further north than forecast but thankfully it looks to be heading on a more southerly track. Should be a slow clearance now; heralding fresher cooler weather over weekend with more chance of seeing the golden globe in the sky.
  16. Showers ganging up to the west... hoping for a clearance mid morning but local forecast has them on and off until late afternoon. A fresher feeling few days before the weekend warm up.
  17. Light drizzle here...always primed for that 'less' exciting of rain spells. The heavy fiery stuff south of Birmingham....nice and clear to the North in Scotland... the North West of England?...we'll just order a few hours of boring heavy drizzle.
  18. 20 years in December for me. Scary how times flies... was just looking for a site a bit more easy to follow than the crazy BBC snow (slow) watch days. Internet was fledging and very basic back then, so it's a credit that 'net-weather' has managed to keep itself relevant and successful for all things weather related. Best for wintry weather in that time, was that period between 2009-2011. It's been a bit slushy and drip-drip since then apart from a few beasterlies.
  19. Escaped the worst of the conditions apart from it being a bit windy. A direct southerly was always going to stick the moisture on west facing coasts. It will pass through east to west eventually but will probably be frazzled out by the time it reaches here. Quite muggy feeling, and interesting watch for Wednesday.
  20. Persistent rain from the word go here today, a slight lull at moment but radars backfilling and the rain will bloom again as it passes higher ground and western upslopes so probably another few hours of moderate to heavy rain to see out the day. Edit: Latest blob of rain has thankfully moved further north of my abode so hopefully it's dying off here a bit now.
  21. Glad the rain as held off for most of the day, managed to get a few things done. It's on the fringes of entering the region now but appears very light drizzly. This might be the last day of feeling quite warm and muggy, it's pretty dire westerly driven rain for most days next week. It will feel autumnal at times. No mercy will be shown for outdoor jobs next week.
  22. When out and about I saw low level cloud drifting from the North East and Higher Level cloud scuttling in from the South West...the radar also bizarrely seems to suggest precipitation from alternate directions...yet overhead only a few spits and spots of rain. Where's that twilight zone music.
  23. Feels much fresher now outside, a decent amount of rain overnight. House taking a while to catchup, always retains the heat longer especially upper floor. As per charts above it appears our reservoirs are about to be topped up after the hot spell. Everything is tolerable in moderation even rain. Just hope we don't get stuck in a rut with it.
  24. I thought you and other peak district dwellers hit the jackpot with that passing through your area. I could see it to my east, it just touched parts of Mossley on it's western fringe and I could see the frequent flashes lighting up the skies on the other side of the hill 'Hartshead Pike' sits on. Very impressive.
  25. I think something lively went through Hebden Bridge about 4pm going off the radar. I waved it off in it's embryonic stage in my neighbourhood. It was just a mere disorganised shower cloud here but built up momentum as it travelled north. It looks a bit barren now looking further south, unless we have some homegrown brewings.
