  1. Yes an incredible month i will never forget, it also goes to prove what many people have been saying for years about the whingers that they would moan even in a 1962/63 winter month as they were moaning loads even in an exceptionally cold month we might never see the likes of again in our lifetimes.
  2. LOL anybody seen the ridiculous thread on TWO asking people why they want more cold and snow, i mean its a weather forum and its winter what do they expect  The person who made it up is constantly saying it isnt cold or snowy enough where he lives, well now he's had something cold and snowy enough he's now moaning it was too cold and he doesnt want anymore, people who are bored of winter want months and months of hot weather, well that would get boring too, why they just admit they hate cold, love heat and leave people alone to enjoy cold and snow, it seems the mildies have a very narrowminded view towards other peoples preferences, to me if people like weeks and weeks of hot weather with not much happening its upto them not upto me to tell them why they want it.
  3. More like 2 to 3 day near average muck, it was still cold on tuesday in the midlands, temps look like going down from tomorrow night, could be an air frost to bring in the new year in places or temps just around 0C. Not sure what the OP has been looking at but the cold returns from saturday. I think people get used to cold very quickly when temps were -7C in the countryside on boxing day i saw lots of people out enjoying it very young to very old, its easy to keep warm indoors nowadays with such well insolated houses and old people homes, you just need lots of layers of clothes if you feel the cold, i feel heat is much worse as its very hard to get away from unless you have expensive air conditioning which not many have.
  4. Incredible run of date min records gone last week :o This post from doctormog on TWO is a very sensible level headed post that some should take notice of, i see doctormogs name pop up on username list on here but he doesnt post well i hope he starts to post on here, we need more sensible level headed posters who post the facts and not always moaning when we just had the coldest spell of our lifetime and for well over a hundred years.
  5. Yes the cold will be here for a long time with only short breaks from it with less cold weather, very dry too with above average sunshine.
  6. Just been reading some winter forecasts and it puzzles me why so many always go for a mild end to February, i feel this is more in the hope that with spring near it automatically means it will get mild but its the complete reverse, blocking conditions are more likely end of February into early March than in January, some of the best cold spells in the 00's came late in the season, i see no reason not to expect a cold late winter/early spring with snowfall in places.
  7. Yes its definately the best rime/hoar frost scenes ive ever witnessed especially with the sun coming out today, the countryside is just a magical place to be, anybody depressed should just go for a lovely walk and the beautiful landscape would put a smile to their face. I really dont get people like richardr and bottesford who are always moaning about cold weather, they really should get out there and enjoy it, there are lots of people in the parks here and walking beside the canal since the cold spell started, people walking their dogs too. its a myth people hate cold weather here in england. there are lots of people enjoying it and smiling, who wants dreary old cloudy mild weather when you can have such amazing days like today.
  8. What an excellent thread this is, some very interesting reading in here. Yes this cold spell has come about a month early, most December cold spells occur after mid Dec around the christmas period, yes March to me delivers much more cold and snowy weather than November, i even think March isn't that far behind even December in terms of wintry weather even though the days are much longer in March, actually even though averages are higher than November April has a better chance of seeing snowfall, yes it wont last as long on the ground as November but i feel snow falling out of the sky is more common. Autumns arent that cold at all in the UK, its a shame November doesnt show cold spells like this one more often because the amount of daylight and darkness is perfect for cold weather spells but cold pools arent developed enough for most of the month until towards the end of the month and synoptics in November not suited for cold weather the majority of the time.
  9. Late winter ie February usually sees anticyclonic weather dominate, the atlantic usually quietens down by February, February is one of the driest months of the year on average and blocking patterns more likely, in my opinion blocking patterns in late November are an excellent precursor to a cold winter, i expect February to see a very noteworthy cold spell maybe the coldest of the whole winter.
  10. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn2162.png - I cant see that mass of cold just being blown away that easily by the atlantic to see such early build up of cold to our northeast is very encouraging indeed, there are too many downbeat posters on this forum acting like the winter is over already after the imminent cold spell which is ludicrous in only November i'm sure if they did the same for summer in May they would be criticised much more heavily. I wish Tom Presutti off TWO posted on here we need more positive posters regarding winter
  11. I cannot see how a below average spell can be averted either the evolution to northerly blocking looks pretty solid, i wouldnt go around using the word extreme yet though as extreme cold in late November/early December is rare in the UK as the cold pooling isnt quite there yet in europe and even -10C 850 hPa air doesn't guarantee extreme widespread cold i guess you mean ice days by that, actually ice days are far more common under less good synoptics like a slack southeasterly with a high just to our southeast/east or HP directly above us after a cold feed and a cold inversion setting up at the surface.
  12. I wonder where your very intensive PV's and raging positive AO's have gone no sign of it at all on current output.
  13. What an absurd thing to say of course extra light in the summer increases anti social behaviour while this time of year darkess as well as colder wetter weather keeps it quieter on the streets, so where you live its dead when its light in June and the weather is nice warm and sunny yet in november its dark wet and cool the streets are alive with lots more noisy kids than summer, yeah right
  14. I am horrified that some MP's want to bring GMT+2 in and are having a discussion on it in december in the commons, its too light in the evening in June as it is imagine it not getting properly dark until near midnight :o How the hell can you goto sleep and get up early for work if its bleedin light until 11 pm , it would just increase anti social behaviour it's bad enough as it is having noisy kids playing around in the summer, an extra hour of light would just increase anti social behaviour, what about all those poor people on shift work which by the way is increasing who cant sleep because of people shouting in their back garden until 11pm and not to mention it staying dark until midday in scotland in the winter. Its a stupid idea beyond belief only supported by people who dont work and want to doss around until late at night and dont get up for work in the morning and stay in bed all morning.
  15. You will find i haven't posted much in the past few months and hardly ever to criticise anyone, feel free to private message me any examples of me criticising people in the past few months. It's too simplistic to say strong La Nina's = winters with very unsettled conditions dominating which is what in layman terms he is saying, there are lots of different factors to take into account.
  16. We actually live in the here and now but that doesn't stop him forecasting a season over a year away.
  17. The earliest winter is over post ever recorded even saying winter 2011/12 is already over  Sorry but i buy your reasoning at all, if it was that easy to forecast upcoming seasons then why do even the big organisations like the met office get it wrong so many times, humble pie for you come March i feel
  18. No not at all, find the sun coming up very early in June much more depressing, love clear starry nights with a full moon lighting your way, nothing is better especially with snow on the ground
  19. According to GP it looks like we should write off this winter and next summer, he seems very confident regarding this winter.
  20. Yes a promising winter forecast, i always like to hear of very dry winters because that means lots of HP around and that usually means cold in the winter, not sure the anti cold gas guzzlers will be as happy though
  21. No way has it been on, no point wasting money when modern houses have such good insulation nowdays, its not like its cold anyway.
  22. What an abolsute disgrace, Rob McElwee is the only BBC forecaster who knows what he is talking about and tells it like it is with no horrible mild ramping the others do, i don't like any of the other pressenters at all. Rob McElwee correctly said it wasnt an indian summer on the main BBC 1 10 35 pm forecast last week like others said, i wonder if that statement got him in trouble because it doesnt toe the UK going to boil in the next 100 hundred years rhetoric of the BBC and UKMO :wallbash: :wallbash: I am really an angry this is shocking news indeed and the guy is very funny too, the poster who said he wasnt hasnt a clue what he's talking about thomas schmacher or whatever his name is is a disgrace and after all his nasty cry baby behaviour if someone dares makes a harmless joke at his expense should of gone long ago.
  23. No offense to Joe B fans but i think the guy is abit of a Buffoon, maybe thats what B really stands for
  24. Sounds more than just ok, seems spot on to me. I think you mean towards the second half of Autumn, yes there are hints HP could influence us more after mid October but it may still be not strong enough to keep the atlantic at bay for too long with LP undercutting the HP to our northeast, lets hope the cold arrives a month earlier this year Yes i'm looking forward to some harsh frosts, it doesn't have to snow all the time for me, i love HP spells with HP centred over central UK November to March giving harsh night time frosts and cold foggy days
  25. No thanks mild nights this time of year mostly involve strong TM winds from the SW which make my bedroom door keep banging so have to shut the bathroom window, much better is calm nights like recent nights so i can leave the windows open. September 10th was an awful day with very strong winds and overcast drizzly conditons, amazes me people enjoy that even if very mild and muggy, the wind and overcast conditions moderate it quite abit, much better is a cool airmass and lots of strong sunshine then it feels much warmer in the sun May to September. Yes just like the boring summer we had.
