Snow in Chelmsford too, bit of a surprise!

Yeah the Met seem to be pretty steady with the cold signal too, so I fear the worst despite a glimpse of warmer in the output. Especially with the NH profile still looking like it could open the door. If the cold keeps us out of Atlantic downpours then it's a second prize I can live with. We really need to dry out a bit. The met have been pretty good with their long range since new year I think, so has to be considered the form horse.

Dusting here overnight, but wow at the snow down the road! Now the snow risk has passed, had a sneaky look at the MOD. Hints at some useable weather appearing? The cold can do one now... unless it's the only alternative to wet

Bit of light snow here to round off things. Expected nothing at all so making the most of it, as who knows, it could be years before I see it again!

Clearer skies here and very cold as we enter the home stretch for snow risk. Not a classic cold spell for most sadly, but a nice distraction during the lockdown boredom, and the first proper snow of any kind for three years here. Some areas fared exceptionally well which was good to see. In terms of sheer volume of hours with snow this was impressive, accumulation not so much. If Feb 91 scores a 10, I'd give it a 4 or 5 for my location. If everything had stuck and settled, it would have been a solid 6 I reckon. In the absence of something incredible emerging, my thoughts now turning to searching for spring warmth. Some dry weather would be a good start as we move towards March

Lucked out today. Best of the spell by a mile in terms of notable snowfall. Alternating fat flakes, heavy graupel, then lighter on repeat. Perhaps a few cms from this morning. I think the bin lid has topped out about 10cms or so, but far less on the deck. Expected about 7-10cms before the spell started - if only it could've stuck around, we'd probably have got there!! Still, more than I had any right to expect given the complications we've had getting decent snow in this spell.

This is really great fun, but anyone else occasionally zooming out of the radar, looking up at Scotland and thinking... that looks tasty . Bet there's some chunky old snowfalls up there today.

Heaviest burst so far here with large flakes, was expecting this to be a bit further south so a nice surprise tbh.

That's a really clear explanation. Thanks. I mean we should all know warm air rises, but to see that principal explained in the context of the charts and conditions we witnessed is very useful. Another question if I may, was this warm front an effect of Darcy clearing through?

Yeah, I agree. Despite it being way better than nothing, when I look out of the window this morning, it's hard to believe we're on day 3 of a decent event on paper. And sounds like I've done OK in comparison to many areas! I think ground temps have had a part to play in throttling the accumulations, but even then the heavier snow just never really got going did it? One thing i suppose is the sheer amount of time I've seen falling snow though. That's been impressive in it's own way.

Would like to see a bit more of that moderate stuff that fell for an hour or two last night. Expectation levels are low, as I guess most of the decent stuff will be running across to my south today, but you never know eh? This fine light stuff starting to get on my nerves a bit

Easing off now. Looking at the radar, might be back to dandruff for a while at least. Running it back (was bathing the kids), looks like we did pretty well out of that pulse here. A good way to kick the night off - even if I don't see much more it's scratched the itch. Let's hope some more of us get in on the action and somewhere gets a right caning before the night's out

Moderate snow here now, but flakes are much bigger than anything we've had so far. Consequently, the patio has finally disappeared and crunchy underfoot.

First break in the cloud I've seen yet to the south of here!

More dandruff. Some heavier stuff coming off the N Sea now looks to be going to the S and N of here. Just skated to put the rubbish out, and I can confirm that according to my bin lid, which we know is the accepted gold-standard for snow depth measurement is... about 5 cms. Elsewhere, much more patchy. But would have been approaching a notable snowfall by now were it not for the ground temps.

Let's hope to see something heavier later. Love prolonged snow showers, but bloody hell... this is like a buffet where you can only grab one cheese and pineapple stick at a time.

Starting to look like a proper cold spell has hit here now, as the light stuff we're getting is slowly accumulating where it didn't yesterday. If we can squeeze a couple of cms today would be nice. Hope some of it gets to those with little at the moment.
