  4. Seven million tons of food waste in the uk, because people see best before dates this should be banned ,open the food if it smells all right ,looks alright  then eat it. I'm always eating out of date food and I'm still alive. God gave us ears nose and smell, sadly the nanny state have taken that away especially for young folk.

I think I read 20% of perfectly good fruit/veg is thrown out purely due to cosmetic reasons. Disgraceful while there are people going hungry.

      lassie23

supermarkets have started selling wonky fruit veg at a discount, i don't give a flying **** whar my fruit and veg looks like, just as long as it doesn't test super dupery doo

I agree and see the co-op's move to sell stuff which is a couple of days out of date on the cheap as a good idea. People can make their own choice but for the most part a lot of items which have past their sell by date will be perfectly fine, the shop cuts waste and still makes a slight return on their produce whilst customers can get cheap food which given how tight many familys' budgets are can only be a good thing.

  5. Thundersnow for some this coming week:yahoo:

Some 'drug addicts and down and outs' have valid reasons for being in the position that they are- think things like mental health such as PTSD, anxiety and depression. I see stigma is still very much around, is it any wonder some people see suicide as the only way out with people like you casting aspersions?!

Last time I heard a prediction like that, the Ice Age was due to start in 2007-8...Can't remember whether it was the so-called and much vaunted 'Landscheidt minimum' or 'solar sausages' that were meant to cause it, though..?

But as it never happened it's hard to care!

The "idiots" are accurate - maybe even more qualified than you in many cases in their capacity as weather television presenters. One nationwide cold night (and -5c was the colder exception to the rule on a countrywide basis) and daily temperatures slightly below average just into double figures doesn't add up to the sort of ice age you and others will tribally crave between now and Spring.

Try some less neanderthral analysis and a more adult tolerance of those who appear to you less of what you perceive as "weather enthusiasts" and take the weather, and those others perceptions of it with a rather more mature respect and perspective instead.

Along with so many others who return to the winter net weather pilgrimage, attacking anyone, whether on or off this forum, who defers to anything less than tundra like conditions from "cut in" myopic hysteria point circa October to "cut off" myopic hysteria point sometime around March, is enough to put off some who like snow, let alone those that don't

And yet another reminder (if it was needed) to be very glad to be no longer a part of it.

As magical as it is, there is more to life as to whether or not it is going to snow...

Yes, build houses on an historic flood plain area, and you will get flooded, must be global  warming though..

Complete money making stupidity , but wow, they are flooded....Pathetic to then blame it on climate change!

    1. cheeky_monkey

      cheeky_monkey

do we? everything is cable or satellite here no such thing as freeview via an aerial

    2. Seasonality

      Seasonality

Well, modern digital television can still be transmitted through what are essentially radio waves so an aerial is needed to receive these. Cable and satellite are alternative transmission methods but a satellite dish is really a specialised form of aerial that collects and concentrates the transmissions from a satellite. Our phones and wifi also use aerials, they won't be going anywhere just yet I'd say.

Am all for the bbc trying to put a positive spin on things.. But we have had a low centred over  the north of the UK for several weeks and just stuck there.sending low after low our way I don't believe we have reached  20c for   at least 2 months in my location which is ridiculous.

Poorest most unseasonal September so far in a long time. *Autumn* began mid July, with a merciful break for the August B/H, and could be set to last till next Spring based on this La Nina atmospheric circulation and other combined factors that are likely to be present. A dismal prospect.

Seasonal emigration and escape would be heaven...

    4. Alice1991

      Alice1991

This September is certainly quite a contrast to the last few Septembers. In the whole 25 years of my life, I have never known such an unsettled September like this one. The latter half of the month doesn't look too promising either.
