  1. The whirly polar thing seems to be following the track of the current crop of showers in the Irish Sea. Not wishing to get too optimistic but this could be good news for here... ...forget model output, this is radar and satelite watching time!
  2. Well the Polar Low or the Viennese Whirl or whatever you want to call it seems to now be racing south to south east at a really fast pace.
  3. Another dry gap coming in now with not a lot downwind of here. However, it all moves so quickly that there could be more cropping up soon.
  4. Oh I know.....I'm only joking! It is fun reading the debates and people's reasoning for why they will see the most snow. A nice little period of snowy weather this last 24 hours. Nowhere near the dizzy heights of 2010 or 2013 but way above 2014. Worth remembering at this point that 2009 and 2012 had yet to get going properly at this point of the winter.
  5. Might just be easier if the whole thing just fizzled out now. Would save a lot of debate!
  6. It certainly is because it's here right now. Quite a gusty moderate snow shower blowing through. Sticking easily this time putting a fresh dusting down.
  7. Interesting. Just heard there's nothing on the ground at all in some parts of Wolverhampton. Could see the showers tracking further north towards Stafford so they must have been your ones. All shows just what a lottery it is when showers are set up like this.
  8. Have you got any lying snow with you today?
  9. Who knows? The whole thing could fizzle out. Fickle things by all acount. The last polar low I remember seeing was when I lived in Sunderland. It was around January/February 2004 (and no, it wasn't the thundersnow event). Very intense snowfall indeed. Of course being that much further north was a huge advantage! Saw a lot of incredible snow while I lived there. The best I've ever seen up there...and I've lived in Ohio as well! Polar low or no Polar low, looks like we're going to have some showers to entertain us this evening.
  10. Anyway, incoming small band of snow right now. Currently crossing Shropshire into Staffordshire and holding. Not as impressive as earlier but a bit of lampost watch practise to come within the next hour.
  11. Well of course we are while it's still over 400 miles away! Let's see when it gets a bit closer!
  12. Back to the now. Getting into a bit of a dry gap here now regarding shower activity. No problem though as we're already ahead of where I thought we would be at this stage. Those areas north and east of me should catch this next shower train though. For a NWerly set up, we're not doing that bad. Elevation is helping me of course as I just heard that there's no snow lying at all down in Stourbridge.
  13. Just got in from work. Logged on to report about the heavy snow today and how we're punching above our weight in this kind of set up etc etc etc. ...and find you're all talking about a polar low? Please do tell!
  14. Nice little bit of a dusting out there this morning. Looking forward to a day of sunshine and flying bits of snow!
  15. You staying up to see if it does?
  16. Very true. Reading the regional threads from the north you can see how hit and miss it is. Another example is running the radar loop and looking at somewhere like Macclesfield. Absolutely nothing has passed through there yet. That's frustration right there! Showers looking fewer for here now but we're in one of those situations where it ebbs and flows so I expect quick little bursts of snow just as we've been having throughout the night. Might be a bit on the cars by morning but not something worth staying up for. Hopefully there'll still be bits and pieces flying around to entertain us tomorrow!
  17. I think everyone here is clear about expectations when you read back through the posts. It's been really relaxed this time around in this thread. At least I think it has. All that's happening is that we're simply enjoying a bit of snow falling. That's all.
  18. Problem is that even though they look good on the radar, they are moving at such a pace they haven't got any time to leave much behind. You really want to get under a streamer. This could well be the reason why we are out of the warning area. We can get the heavy snow...just not enough of it in any one spot! Still nice to see falling and create quick dustings.
  19. Snow getting fairly heavy here too now. Big flakes and settling. Edit: Calmed down as quick as it had pepped up. Shows how quick things are moving.
  20. Well the lastest band has arrived here as snow. I have a dream that one day, we will get as late as 10:30pm and it will still be snowing! Not raining. Not being cloudy and nothing. Actual snow.
  21. So going by past events this winter, it's around this time of night during potential snowfall (8pm - 10pm) that things start to go wrong. Now, this time, we started with very low expectations anyway and they are somewhat being met. So hopefully this time, even if it does rain or doesn't snow or whatever it does, all will remain calm!
  22. Oooh, unlucky with the current one. Just grazing the fragmented edge of it. No more than a few flakes flying around. Still plenty more out west to play with.
  23. Oh stop it and join the rest of us looking out of the window!
  24. I love it when that happens! It was doing it here earlier under clear skies. Reminds me of my hometown Lowestoft when we would get strong northerlies delivering heavy snow showers down the east coast. The snow would start falling long before the cloud arrived!
  25. Snowing here right now. Proof that little bits and pieces are going to appear out of nowhere. Putting the tiniest of dustings down!
