  1. Not here I'm afraid. Just heavy rain, nothing wintry about it at all.
  2. Nah, just heavy rain here. Nothing sleety about it. Ah well…was worth a little look out.
  3. There are some pinks and greens appearing on the lead edge of the precipitation as it approaches. Granted high ground will be causing it...but it's not doing it over all high ground. Probably onto nothing but might be worth a little look?
  4. The dew point is back down at 0 at Birmingham Airport. And with the precipitation coming in being quite heavy, there might be a small chance of something? But yeah, we're probably going to have to wait now until later tonight/tomorrow morning.
  5. Some proper heavy weather heading towards us from the southwest now. Pretty sure it's going to be rain I'm afraid. Shame seeing we managed to dodge most of the first round of heavy showers here.
  6. A dry area over us at the same time as the milder air infilitrating? I think our weather is broken!
  7. Hmmm...you got me thinking and going through some old photos. I forgot about January 2021. That was also a superb snowfall here. I can't decide if this is better or not. Hmmm... Also slightly worried about my memory as it was only 2 years ago!
  8. Raining properly here as well now. At least it was predicted...it's not as painful!
  9. Yeah, pretty much. It's not the greatest amount we've ever seen up here...but it's definitely the most for 5 years, maybe longer. I guess it doesn't matter what's in those showers now...we're about to pass through a gap between them! I guess what you don't know doesn't hurt you!
  10. Interesting drive to work to Birmingham city centre at 4am this morning...and back just now. A good covering in the city centre...but nowhere near the amount we have here in Dudley. Could just see the depths slowly increasing as I drove home. I haven't mesaured it but one of our best snowfalls here. Might even be better than March 2018, not as good as Jan 2013 and nowhere near as good as March 2013..but I don't think we'll see snowfall again like that for a long time! A superb event for the higher parts of the Black Country, and fairly decent overall for the West Midlands it seems. There's a fine drizzle now...and I think those heavy showers to our south might be about to spoil things somewhat. But it doesn't matter...we got there!
  11. Nowhere near the 3cm some in the region are reporting here, even 1cm may be generous. But still a decent covering nonetheless.
  12. Light snow here. The showers are loosing their ‘oomph’ before they hit the West Midlands. Nice to see light snow gently falling. Leaving a small dusting too.
  13. We may have used up our luck last month here as far as snow goes. But you never know. This crisp sunshine is great anyway. Interesting driving my train to Nottingham yesterday afternoon. A very localised but full dusting of snow just outside of Derby in Spondon, but nowhere else. Was treated to a lovely sunset on the return journey too.
  14. The snow on the ground is almost a week old now and losing it's appeal...and there's too many yellow patches in my garden! (Dog owners will understand!) Just been for a walk up our local park, which was magical earlier in the week...and is becoming a little unpleasant now. If there's no more snow forecast...then a blast of mild weather and a clean canvas won't be too bad. Then hopefully...soon...we can go again.
  15. Well that was fun I guess. Got a bit lucky here with last Sunday's snow too. Back into the mud on Sunday. Could well be staying squelchy through Christmas too it seems. Ahh well...nice to get to Christmas without having to look into far distant weather models just for a bit of frost! We've started this winter already a little bit ahead. So that's good.
  16. I was wondering as the system to the southeast continues to pivot, we might get ourselves downwind of a fetch from the Wash or somewhere. No more than flurries I'm sure...and the wind is probably too light this time. The light winds this week have been our downfall, would love to think what could've happened had it been a bit more lively! But the end result makes what's happened today even more of a stroke of luck here I guess! Been an interesting day today...wouldn't be surprised if we picked up a flurry or two from something left hanging around from all this.
  17. Yep, whatever caused that little blob this morning has now moved away. Pretty decent morning and a good couple of cm put down. What good luck for us here. Completely unexpected. Although we've now lost the right to moan for the remainder of the winter!
  18. Not the greatest snow event in the World in comparison to what can happen up here! However, first snow since Storm Arwen in November 2021 (which was actually quite impressive here) and really nice to see a decent covering. Far far more than what was expected in these parts during this cold spell. Actually thought we were looking at it being bone dry from start to finish. Edit: Actually, if it keeps coming down like this...who knows! Snow has a proper crunch under the feet now.
  19. Same here really. Quite moderate, sometimes heavy snow falling. Laying quite rapidly, main roads are covered anyway. We had to wait until September for our first thunderstorm of the season despite the heat. For once, winter is being kinder to the Black Country.
  20. At work and had to drive an empty train very early this morning around 05:30-06:00 from Birmingham to Nottingham. Was treated to a pretty decent lightning display to the north east once I was north of Tamworth. Got quite intense briefly but died very quickly too. Had the best view from my cab out in the middle of nowhere in the dark though!
  21. Today is the closest we've come to breaking our 2022 thunder drought here in the Black Country. Thought we might have had a chance a couple of hours ago, but it just doesn't want to happen. Still new storms popping up in places like Bristol...so maybe we can still get there today. It's becoming a bit of a slog though!
  22. I've been living here in the West Midlands since 2006, I don't think I can recall a year where I've made it as far as August without hearing one rumble of thunder. Considering where I've lived before, it might even be the first time in my life. (Lowestoft 78-98, Bangor Gwynedd 98-01, Sunderland 01-04, Columbus Ohio 04-06. I was a student in Bangor and Sunderland, so returned home to Lowestoft for the summer, most certainly would have had storms there, back in the days when Lowestoft would get huge all nighters!)
  23. Interesting evening at work. I’m currently in training to be a train driver and just done a run from Birmingham to Manchester and back via Stoke. Snow on the ground around Longport station and more so on some of the smaller stations between Macclesfield and Stockport. Drove through some quite heavy snow falling between Kidsgrove and Congleton.
  24. To be fair, our road was starting to look like the video from Matlock, and we’re a little bit lower than Sedgley. Looks nothing like that now though! Green and brown returns.
