  1. Fairly pleasant day overall. A little breezy especially till mid afternoon but nice in the sun which only really hid away late morning and early afternoon. Otherwise a nice day.
  2. Really lashed down about 3.30-3.45pm today. Nice sunny end to the day though. Looks pretty fair for the rest of the week too into next week.
  3. Looks like we copped the best of the downpour for a change! Dying out as it travels East.
  4. Big convective drops as the squall passed through. No thunder or lightning though. Very thunderstorm like style downpour and skies though.
  5. Looks like just a brief spell of heavy rain whilst all the storms stay on the continent as per.
  6. Hi all, I know I already had a thread on this but It was getting a bit confusing from the first posts and the recent ones so wanted to start a fresh. My current idea has been on looking at the relationship between ENSO and River discharge. Given ENSO is an uncertain variable I thought it would be worth exploring. I originally wanted it to just look at the UK because I can easily get hold of river discharge data and monthly rainfall for stations or regionally from the Met Office. However my tutors suggested I looked at a wider scale because ENSO was such a global influence that the UK would be too small but the reliance on secondary data sources was becoming too much and it was beginning to daunt me that If something went wrong It could potentially screw things up. Does anyone have any ideas on how the above idea could be tweaked or any other idea of similar themes. Im very keen to keep it related to climate and rivers/flooding as Im really interested in that and it may have relevance to a future career of mine. Any help would be most grateful! Cheers.
  7. Wouldnt you argue that for most that whilst not a total grip on the country, that HP actually dominates more than any LP? I would like to see evidence for such LP otherwise. Not 100% dry by any means but away from Scotland, perhaps not quite the picture you make out to me but thats just my opinion.
  8. Got to about 11c here. Pretty poor compared to recently.
  9. Those developments SE of Bham really showed that even if the cloud was some somewhat thinner we could have something pretty damn special for April today. Oh well! Im sure there will be more chances soon.
  10. Couple of showers have exploded into life just SE of Birmingham seen on radar and sat24. No sferics.
  11. Just feels autumnal! Light rain and misty or smoggy I should say and cool. Really not was expected back on Monday.
  12. Yeah sadly the cloud free gap in the SE is closing in by more cloud from France. Actually looking forward to SWly winds for a change for something more mobile. Really annoying as SEly winds usually produce better conditions than this! Oh well, if it was sunnier and this happened in mid July it could be about 33-36c right now id guess as weve had quite a few days of SEly winds now!
  13. To move away from the present for a moment... Those in Falmouth and Penryn (Cornwall) will remember last weeks solitary lightning strike and huge crash of thunder. Amazing damage for one bolt at Penryn Rugby club. http://www.falmouthp...CTURES/?ref=mry Was it possible it was a positive CG strike?

  15. Seems to be edging this way slowly. The front has effectively stalled out west and the clouds are moving in a NWly direction.
  16. Quite a nice cloud clearance across SE England coming in now which may come in time for some mid afternoon heating and hopefully a little convection.

  18. Tomasz Schafernaker mentioned a risk of thunder and a flash of lightning in the Birmingham area tomorrow on the 22.35 forecast. Still think it will be too cloudy, smoggy and cool tomorrow though.

  20. Complete bust today. Disappointing week it's turned out to be storm wise really.
  21. Im back in the Midlands for the Easter holidays mate. Yes I hope so too but a lot needs to occur up there in the heavens first. hehe
  22. Wish I could share the enthusiasm. Very uninspiring radar. Lots of light drizzle here currently and on the radar. Not warm either.
  23. Rather cloudy today so no chance of anything surface based imo. Not holding my breath on anything elevated either. They seem short lived storms thus far.
  24. Next couple of days don't look too exciting at the moment. Met office forecasts look like too much cloud and just light showers. Don't make much of any thunder risk at all
  25. Low risk of a few thundery imports tonight? NMM seems to think so plus the Met o hinting at thundery showers in the West Midlands tomorrow morning?
