  1. I live mid way between Portsmouth and Southampton and I think our house must have been under the main path of the storms this evening! I don't remember the last time I remember seeing so many lightning flashes over such a long period of time. I think when the last big storm rolled through just now for a period of 15-20 minutes there was a lightning flash every 3-4 seconds. The rain was absolutely torrential as well and you could hear it hammering on the roof wherever you were in the house. After last months snow, this week's warmth and tonight's light show 2018 is proving to be one of the more interesting weather years so far
  2. I have got to say that Reham was always my favourite! L Ps Alexis's forecast didn't exactly send the pulse racing
  3. I think you should stay optimistic! I have lived within 7 miles of Fareham for the last 44 years. Snow has arrived from every compass point throughout that time. Even a straight northerly has delivered snow on several occasions over the years. Whilst an easterly might guarantee cold snow can arrive from all different directions ....... and often at short notice. Stay positive!
  4. Light snow has just started falling again in Fareham (first time since mid afternoon). L
  5. It looks as whilst the front moves east that showers are now moving south west across the top of it. Keep the faith (and your fingers crossed!) I think Snowmania and I were typing at the same time!
  6. It is snowing lightly here in Fareham. Much drier snow than Friday's stuff as although it is very light there is a dusting on everything including the roads now. As the crow flies I can only be 25 miles away from you so I will see if I can encourage it to move further west! L
  7. Is your dish covered with snow? The last time my dish got plastered it stop working until it cleared it!
  8. I live just along the coast from you in Fareham. (I know it's not polite to ask a lady her age!) but there are two occasions in the last 30 years where the snow got close to knee height. The first was in the very late 1970's when drifting snow went to the height of hedgerows and in either february 1986 or 87 when a number of separate snowfalls along with sustained low temperatures got the level snow depths to around 12 inches deep. Never lose the faith! L

  10. I have got to say I am with you on this one. At the weekend just gone we had milder air moving from west to east across us which meant little of the County saw much snow and the coast mostly saw rain. Tomorrow/ Friday's action is travelling more north east to south west which will help keep us more in the continental air. I would suspect most of it would stay as snow this time even down towards the coast. My greatest concern if I am being selfish though is how far east it will stay- the biggest risk it seems to me is that most of the action will be further to the west!
  11. Thanks Optimus Prime and Coast- that is great! Lee
  12. I remember January 1987 well and just how cold it was in that easterly gale! I can't seem to find any video weather forecasts or the like from that time anywhere though. Can anyone point me in the right direction/ provide a link? Thank you. Lee
  13. I wouldn't sign off from the Forums just yet. Whilst this week coming looks wet, warm (ish) and windy the general trends look like a cooling down again from mid month onwards. I think the trouble we have is we were seriously spoilt in late November and through December. Looking at the long term average we normally see the greatest number of days with lying snow in February. Only a couple of years ago we had heavy snow in April (admittedly it only lasted the day). So don't put the sledge away yet- mine is still on standby and will see some more action I'm sure before this winter is out! Lee
  14. I was really pleased to hear Peter Gibbs say that then I thought.....bloody hell yet more sleep deprivation!
