  1. A misty chilly day and only 4c at Castle Howard. The sun tried briefly to show itself but failed. More rain forecast for tonight onto already sodden ground is going to continue to cause issues and then a drier start to next week with average temps before more rain and less cold from the middle of the week.
  2. From the security cameras, we’ve got a covering at home in Barnsley snd it’s still snowing moderately. We’ve been down in Helmsley this morning where it was raining quite hard, but back in Hutton le Hole and we have light snow, but only really starting to settle on the grass. A couple of miles up the road at The Lion on Blakey Ridge there is now a good covering but the road is still passable.
  3. Rain showing on security camera at home in Barnsley. Home weather station reporting a temp of 2.2c and a dewpoint of 1.2c so currently not low enough for snow. Still dry looking out of our holiday cottage window in Hutton le Hole. Weather station in the village is reporting a temp of 0.5c and a dewpoint of -0.8c so even looking marginal for here.
  4. matty40s Don’t go as far as Meadowhall (J34) as it’s not dual carriageway into the city and not the most direct. Best route which is dual and straight into the city is J33 (Catcliffe). I don’t know if you are aware but there are lengthy roadworks starting around J30 all the way up to J35a with a 50mph restriction, so allow extra travelling time.
  5. Meto have updated the snow warning for Thursday moving southern extent further north. Watch out for much gnashing of teeth in the Mod thread from those living in the Midlands south.
  6. Ironically I’m away from home staying on the edge of the North Yorks Moors in Hutton le Hole this week, and quite often have seen snow whilst staying here in the past but this year it looks as though there will be more at home in Barnsley on Thursday than here.
  7. Temps gradually rose here during the day reaching a peak of 14.5c at 7.20pm! Completely bizarre for a January evening.
  8. We had a few flakes between 10 and 10.30 but nothing since. The heaviest ppn is too far North and anything that get further South fizzles out over the Pennines before it reaches here.
  9. Currently dry in Barnsley with an overnight low of -1.9c. Looking at radar, ppn is 50-100 miles further South and appears to be moving South East rather East South East as compared to models and last nights local forecast. If it continues on the same track, and what is shown further North West, then we may see a covering before the end of the day.
  10. Overnight low of -1.6c and a high wind chill. Out walking at Langsett Reservoir this morning, which was lovely in the sun but bitterly cold in the wind and shade. I thought we might get an ice day today, but temps now upto 1.3c at 12.30.
  11. Agree! Northerlies always seem to be diluted when they actually arrive, often switching to North Westerlies. Although to be honest Northerlies rarely deliver for anyone other than those on the coast and maybe NYM (wishbone effect). Personally, I prefer a strong East North Easterly as that benefits a wider area and can often generate streamers.
  12. GFS 12z going for significant snow for mid week. Could just do with it being 50-100 miles further North before a further plunge of cold moving South. GEM offers a different option with low missing us to the South and snow inbound from the North by the following weekend.
  13. Another throughly miserable day with constant drizzle all morning and temps upto 3.9c. Next week looking colder with a chance of snow, and depending on which model you’re looking at, it’s likely to fall somewhere between John ‘O Groats and Lands End! Just picked up this Fax chart from the mod thread, which certainly looks interesting with a series of troughs heading South towards Scotland in the Northerly flow, but wondering if there might also be some precipitation on the cold front that is straddling our region at 12.00 Sunday. Uppers initially probably too high for snow I think but wondering if there might be a chance of back edge snow.
  14. Had some drizzle and a few spots of rain yesterday as well. This morning is dull and yet again a few spots of rain in the air. Radar showing light showers moving in from NE and interestingly shows a mix of sleet and snow on the Weather Type option.
